  1. I was thinking about Tehran hosting the 2016 Olympics, with Ahmadinejad opening the games. Would be way more cooler than the Queen in four years' time. -.- China have got a strong chance of getting more golds than the US this year. GO CHINA! (not that anyone in China can actually read this post...) The US team this year is weak apparently. The Aussies have got high ambitions, we're hoping for 4th. We've even sent a 14-year-old to secure a medal for us.

Tell me about it... "I'm holding onto the Shield button because I need a shield NOW not half an hour's time!!" One of the main way to approach projectile spammers is to Perfect shield. (Not regular shield) It doesn't work. You can't perfect shield as a tactic. The precision required is just too immense and you'll get caught out and punished at some point. It annoys me and I'm training on CPU 9s and every other attack you get perfect shielded. I'm just sat there thinking, "What? Like hell this would happen in a human vs. human match".

  4. Russia has been arming the rebels for a while now and according to some sources even over 1400 civilians have died in the conflict. If the russian style of bombing civilian targets like Kakha Lomaina (secretary of the Georgian safety councell) said is the way to react towards accidents in a battlefield (guess that's the right word for the situation in South Ossetia and its rebels. Should Finland for example go to war when our peacekeepers die in the battlefields somewhere else? I think you know full well the issue runs much deeper than a few peacekeepers dying. ...Your point? S. Ossetia had an unofficial referendum on independence just two years ago. The majority wanted autonomy. What does that have to do with ethnicity (which actually depends on whether people choose to associate themselves with the country they live in anyway. I don't call my British, for instance, thus my ethnicity isn't British)? Russia has proclaimed the Ossetians' right to independence. This diplomatically gives them a right to declare war against any country which prevents that independence. Serbia didn't have this luxury since Kosovo was a Serbian territory to being with. Russia doesn't accept it, but goes to war to defend its autonomy? That appears to be somewhat illogical. Can I ask, what is wrong with Russia supporting a territory in its struggle for independence? I bet if Russia marched into Tibet, no one would have problem. Is it exactly what the Serbs said when Kosovo declared independence - we all talk about Zimbabwe and China, but no one really gives a damn about the Caucasus. It's just seen as Russia's backyard to organise, yet whenever they try, they get blasted for trying to establish itself as a superpower again.
  5. With that kind of attitude nothing will change. With virtually no support the so called smaller parties (imo they are virtually unexistant) can't even grow and challenge the main parties. Voting for them is a vote for better future, even though it may not be seen in the next few elections. So your solution to party loyalty is to become loyal to another party that exists outside of the main contenders instead? OK... Personally, I'm of the belief there should be three parties. One on the left, one on the right, and one in the middle to provide a sort of buffer to keep people involved in the political process while they're disillusioned. Then people will actually vote on what they believe in, not whoever's promised to lower their taxes most. All that Respect and the SNP have done in this country is destroy Labour's reputation. They've weakened the left wing, and the Tories are profiting. That doesn't strike me as voting for a better future - it actually strikes me as voting for the exact opposite future you want.
  6. It wasn't a coindence that the conflict was started the same day as the olympics. Russia had had practices just behind be boarder for months (which is a really long for a normal practice), they've prepared the homefield with their "chosen news" and with the olympics + USA's presidential elections this conflict got a better chances to cause virtually no organised opposition in the western countries. Maybe so, however, forgive me if I'm wrong, but it was the Georgians who bombarded the provincial capital with artillery and killed Russian peacekeepers first, yes? You're making it sound like the peacekeepers were really operating as hidden spies, infiltrating Georgian territories in anticipation of the coming Russian invasion. It's quite clearly not that. Besides, the US elections count for little. Presume the US is immobilised from diplomacy whilst the election campaigns are going on. That still leaves NATO, the UN and the EU. Frankly, I'm taking this view. If the Kosovans are allowed to declare autonomy from Serbia, why isn't South Ossetia allowed to declare autonomy from Georgia? I don't see how Russia being S. Ossetia's ally makes any difference in principle. This whole story reeks of the same type of pro-Western criticism which is currently being blasted at China. And I don't really buy into it.
  7. People who swear when they're telling a joke, or especially when making some witty point, hack me off too. Unless of course the joke is in the hyperbole, in which case the swear actually builds it up.
  8. I am a loyal supporter of the Labour Party in the UK. Yes, voting for a party like Respect would suit my ideologies more, but that would be STUPID and naive. But the Labour Party are the party of the workers, and as a socialist, that is where my loyalties lie. Of course if you want to vote by principle and let the opposition in through the back door, be my guest. There's a saying - "vote Liberal, get Tory". Obviously this is different in the US which only has a two-party system (effectively). In which case, I cannot understand why anyone would vote someone other than Democrat or Republican. No other party will get anywhere in US politics - it's a vote for nothing.

I'll be online if people want to play.
  10. I swear mildly as a show of emotion. When I'm playing SSBB and I lose a stock, I might go "Oh [bleep]!". I deplore people who use swears in place of an adjective, however. "He was so [bleep]ing up himself, that stupid [bleep]", for example. Just no need for it. It's not a 'heat of the moment' thing and there's a good dozen words that could be used instead. Tells me they haven't actually thought through what they're saying all that much, or they'd realise how stupid they sound.
  11. Can't you see where the world's politics is moving? It's Russia, China and India in one corner, with NATO and the EU in the other. China and Russia have been working closely in that area to prevent the spread of the EU's and US's economic and military influence. I can't say I understand the background history to this dispute though, so I can't exactly comment. They were talking about it during the Olympics coverage when the Georgian team walked into the stadium, and Putin was smiling as though completely ignorant to the conflict. I just hope it doesn't disturb the Games... they've already been dogged enough because of China's reputation with the world.

And what a ceremony it was!
  13. I love this American idea of 'capitalist socialism'. It's like having a theocratic state that advocates free religion. You may have some semi-Socialist policies (such as Medicaid), but don't kid yourself into thinking those are Socialist principles. Medicaid depends massively on contributions from charities. In a truly Socialist state, there is no need for charities since the state provides everyone's needs. Even the NHS depends on charities to a certain extent, mostly hospices. The US is still hugely capitalist compared to other countries. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you wanted to advance Medicaid to the next level, why didn't you support the candidate who has championed the idea of an NHS-style system in the US for the best part of two decades?

That was the least lag I've ever had. Even when facing the Americans the lag wasn't bad today. And thanks, I've been training heavily following my whitewash to Kent. Then, Lucas and Marth are easier match-ups than Snake for TL. You used your Lucas well. There's no way I'd be able to play that well with him if you gave me a year to train.
  15. Eugh... speak for your own country. We still have it... unfortunately. :? I'm not sure if he still lives here, but snooker player Ian McCulloch was born and grew up just down the road to where I live. I also met The La's when I was a baby. (OK, that one doesn't count)

How do you mean? The tournament has already started I believe you're waiting on the result of the round before you. Or do you mean online? Well, basically, you join somebody's room and then after choosing your character you're put in the practice room. The host of the room will receive a message saying you wish to play after the match they're in is finished. If they accept, you'll join next game.

My internet cut off. Can you all come back into my group or I won't be able top play anymore. :( Good games BTW. Nice to have almost lag-less matches. :

  19. Just get someone to sneeze on you when it next starts dying. ;) Good to hear you're getting better.
  20. Lies. The last image says 1. :shame:
  21. I was merely stating common belief. Politicians in general have always changed their mind once in power. Amen to that. Instead we'll have to worry about China's elect... oh no, they don't have any.
  22. -Does not understand strange epic movie, but encourages Mc90123 nonetheless-
  23. Getting enough money to afford games on the DS or the Wii which actually require more than one iota of personal skill. Seriously, it isn't hard to play RS. I was thinking the other day, "What do achievements say about a person?", and the answer was "nothing". You don't even need patience. 99 Cooking can be done bit by bit over years. When you break achievements down, all they are is a measure of either: A) How lucky a person got with drops; or B) How much time they've spent online/how many times they've clicked their mouse. I could train a monkey to sit at a computer all day clicking things. I want something that tests and challenges me. RS just doesn't do that.
  24. If the rest of the world had a vote, Obama would win by a landslide. It's not just a media storm, or a cult of personality as some have tried to make out. We genuinely feel a connection with him. Although that feeling is more anti-right wing America than pro-Obama. We don't want another Bush, and that's exactly what McCain is. You can argue against me on that judgement, but it would be irrelevant. That's what the rest of the world believes - McCain is a war-loving ex-Vietnam veteran who wants to scale up the war in the Middle East. Despite having been a victim of torture himself, he approves of torture against people who have no right to Habeas Corpus (waterboarding and Guantanamo). We don't want to be a part of that.
  25. Depends on what context. I don't mind those sorts of jokes so long as everyone in the room realises what they're saying barely has any relevance to that minority. Achmed the Terrorist I don't mind - most people watching it realise most Muslims and Iraqis aren't terrorists. It's a satire of the terrorists' interpretation of Islam, rather than of Islam itself. And it's funny. People get picked on for their identity. It doesn't matter who you are. Likewise, I look at how vehemently Christian some people are and I instantly start thinking "mindless idiot", because the concept of religion is totally ridiculous to me so I feel they've been bought into believing something that's simply not true. OK, I'm not going to take it to the level the OP described and shout at them in public, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hold any prejudice. I've found the best way to respond to that sort of abuse though is to have true confidence and pride in your identity. I was one of about four people in my year at high school that listened to any sort of rock. I just turned round to all the people who called me 'mosher' and said "so what?". I liked being part of the minority at high school. At the end of the day, they can only hurt your feelings if you're insecure about your identity - remove that insecurity and they can't hurt you. It's that simple really.
