Come to think of it, RS is indeed like the Matrix! You can interact with people and objects, yet they're not real. You can do what you can't do in real life (ie: cast spells), but it is bound by the laws of the Matrix (ie: how RS is programmed).

A long time ago, Jagex had planned to add life runes but never added them. It was conjectured that they were to be used for summoning. Do you think that the astral rune has replaced the life rune? Or are we looking at another future magic update?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip Does anyone think it's possible to do something like this on RS? Has anyone actually done this before? For example, here would be a theoretical path: 1. start with a cooked tuna 2. trade tuna for coal 3. trade coal 20 air runes 4. sell 20 air runes for 300 gp 5. buy 2 uncut gems with 300 gp 6. trade 2 uncut gems for 5 lobsters 7. trade lobsters for herbs 8. sell herbs [if high quality] for 2k ...

The RuneScape "universe" is actually a multiverse with over 130 parallel universes.

popular culture references/Easter eggs in RS?
ixfd64 replied to ixfd64's topic in General Discussion
I found a few more: Koschei the Deathless from The Fremennik trials is based on Russian folklore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koschei So is the firebird from the Heroes' Quest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firebird_% ... olklore%29 -
Also, I think that screenshots from copyrighted games are considered "fair use" and can be allowed.

Yep, Newgrounds now has a RuneScape collection! Maybe that will encourage more people to create RS Flash movies! :) http://www.newgrounds .com/collection/runescape.html It seems that it was added just today!

It should not be the post count that defines a person's virtues. There's an edit counting program for Wikipedia, and it has the message: The same goes for forums.

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a lot of popular culture references in RuneScape? For example: 1. certain NPCs will say "All your base are belong to us." 2. I think that the Kalphite Queen was inspired by Metroid Prime. They both have two different forms with two different sets of attacks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid_Pr ... reature%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalphite_Queen http://runehq.com/RHQSpecialReportsView.php?id=00471 3. I have a feeling that whips were inspired by the Castlevania series. However, nothing further proves conclusive. 4. It is reported that the Chaos Elemental greatly resembles a monster from the LOST series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Chaos_Elemental 5. The pentagram-shaped teleporter pads - possible homage to the Doom series? Or maybe just a coincidence?

The music doesn't seemed to be stored in the file_store_32 foler anymore. Does anyone know the new location? Thanks.

I'm not planning to include Nazis for 3 reason: 1. They don't really fit the context of the RS universe 2. Some people might be offended 3. (see above) I'm planning to post my fanfic on the official boards, and political discussions are not allowed there. I don't want to get into trouble with the mods there, etc

I haven't heard anything in the forum news; if I'm looking in the wrong place, could someone pelase redirect me to the right place? Thanks. Anyways, the number of page views doesn't seem to show up when browsing. Anyone know what's going on?

I'm working on a piece of hybrid fan-fiction crossing RuneScape and Indiana Jones: Indiana Jones and the Well of Voyage. It will be based on the Underground Pass quest. Does Indy have what it takes to dodge an angry mob of noobs? Can he manage to defeat the evil lord Iban? Does he have the guts to face the dangers of the Underground Pass? Learn more about the legend of the Underground Pass! Hang along with the same gang fromt he classic movies - Indy, Henry, Sallah, and Marcus. So watch this space for Indiana Jones and the Well of Voyage! Coming soon to a forum near you!

Think about it, while f2p cannot directly use members features, they can, indrectly, get some of the benefits through member friends. 1. bank space - many members are willing to hold items for f2p friends 2. runes easier to obtain - some members are willing to craft rare runes for f2p friends 3. strength potions easier to obtain - some members only want exp and are more than happy to trade them for limpwurt 4. treasure trail items - some sellers use a "friend discount" system and are more willing to sell for cheaper to f2p friends 5. cake easier to obtain - some members have been known to thieve cakes for f2p friends, free of charge 6. gems easier to obtain - some people don't care much about them, and are willing to sell them to f2p friends for cheap 7. forum advantage - while users are no longer allowed to post for other users, members can act as agents for their f2p friends. In other words, they sell the items and give the money to their f2p friends. What do you think?

Heh, Jagex Interior Designer 1.0. Just like those "Homes & gardens" programs. :P

What would it be? (I got this idea from a post on RuneVillage.) For me, it'd be a Ring of Charos(u). Just imagine the possibilities! :)

Locked Account? Passwords Leaked? - Main Discussion Thread
ixfd64 replied to ForsakenMage's topic in General Discussion
When the database got leaked, was it decrypted for some reason? I thought that phpBB uses 128-bit one-way encryption for its passwords. -
Not everyone checks the forums, though. This is why all updates should be posted on the main page.
-
Jagex didn't announce the update on the main page, but I tihnk I know what they are. 1. The swearing bug has been fixed. You can no longer swear by typing "22". 2. Sound has been fixed. Before the engine update, you'd only get sound on the free version if the ad had loaded properly. After the engine update, the sound failed for many computers, this one included. Now, the problems seemed to have been fixed. 3. On some computers, you couldn't jump to the password field at login by pressing Tab. now you can. :)
-
Also, I don't think Jagex mods are supposed to give away free stuff like that. As for combat levels, I'v heard they can make their temporary level very high (ie: 999999/99 strength). I don't know about their permanent level, though.

An interesting new skill image found on runescape.com

Jagex does it to prevent people from stealing bandwidth. You can click the link, remove the "http://" part, and press Enter. -
I'd like two simple changes to add to RS2. There are two problems with mining that were introduced when RS2 came out. 1. You can't auto-drop ores anymore, making powermining harder. True, you can drop as you wait for the ore to respawn, but your hands will get tired soon. 2. Only one person can mine the same rock at once. If one person mines the ore, other people won't get the ore, even if they click at similar times. Solutions: 1) auto-dropping ores 2) make it so that 2 people can mine the rock at the same time, like on RSC. (I think, like RSC, RS2 uses a system called PID, or player ID. Each player is assigned a PID upon logging in. The lower their PID, the faster the server responds to them. This is why low PIDs were favored by RSC PKers. This also explains why powerminers several levels lower than you can beat you to the ore just about every time, even though you have a good connection and good reflexes.)
