  1. Also, normal essence prices may not drop too much if enough sellers collude to sell at the normal price. But then again, some people give up early and will lower their prices. If I ever need normal essence, I will still buy at the regular price.
  2. You guys have a point. The thing is, I wrote this around 4 years ago or so, so I obviously wasn't as good as writing essays as I am now.
  3. Well, if you could have any high-tech item in RS, what would it be? For me, it'd be a GPS device. No more having to access the world map on a different window, and it wouold really help for treasure trails (though I'm not a member at the moment.)
  4. It had nothing to do with the update. However, I wanted to hear new forum members' opinion on it.
  5. This is a "speech" I wrote years ago. It's probably a bit out of date now, as the hatred between members and free version users isn't that great now. But here it is: Nearly forty years ago, this great individual had dreamed that one day, all black and white people will live together in peace and harmony. Today, although all segregation has been outlawed in most countries, interpersonal discrimination still exists in many places. From hate crimes in rural communities to segregation against freshmen in high schools, discrimination is found everywhere. It even exists between people of different statuses in online games. RuneScape is no exception. RuneScape became publicly available in early January of 2001. Though it had started as a small and quiet online game community, its number of players grew by the ten-thousands every day. Ever since it has been launched, RuneScape had became very, very successful and attracted many people from the other side of the planet. RuneScape had been completely free back then. However, on the 5th of October, something was announced that would soon change the lives of all RuneScape players forever: An optional pay-to-play version of RuneScape was planned. Many people quit, knowing that the free version would soon stop receiving updates, and that their parents would never let them join the pay version. Though the pay version would bring many positives into the RuneScape future, it would definetely bring negatives with it. During the few months that followed, the free version still received updates every so often. Some people were eager to pay, knowing that they would be financially supporting their favorite game; yet others knew they were never going to be able to get their hands on it. Some lost hope just after reading the anouncement. Five months later, the pay-to-play service, called Members, was offically launched. Of course, those who were willing and able to pay jumped for joy. However, soon after that, many people who were in the free version were often referred to as "free-loaders" and "too cheap to pay". Nothing could be further from the truth. Perhaps the greatest thing that keeps people from joining Members is that their parents won't allow them too. That was the day that changed everyone's lives forever. Some positively, some negatively. Many of us have suffered the fact that we could not get Members. It is not a matter of money - it is a matter of priveledges. To prove the point, here is one of my personal anecdotes. I feel that I should let the RuneScape world know my story. I'm sure that I am not the only one with this experience; there may be tens of thousands of other people with similar situations like mine. Many have worse cases. The day I heard that the Members service was planned, I was utterly disappointed. I knew that it would be hard - very hard, to be able to convince my parents to let me join. I never asked them for it until near the end of the school year. Nevertheless, I still had hope that I would be able to join Members after school was over. However, after school, my parents believed that I did not deserve to join the Members version because I did not do as well as they had expected. Of course, I am an honest person and I would not use any non-righteous ways to get Members behind their backs. All my hopes to get Members were cut off. Then, about a week later, the light started shining again. I had just got back my scores for my Chemistry SAT II. Even though it was very good to their standards, that was still not enough to convince my parents. Then, the bright side came when I got back results from a math competition. That finally convinced them to let me join Members for one month. Even though it was only a month, it was better than nothing. Some believe that the free version never deserves anything other than bug fixes, due to the fact they do not pay. Of course, that familiar insult "You pathetic free-loader can't even afford five bucks a month!" comes into our ears again. Odds are that everyone can afford five dollars a month, but I shall reiterate this: Not everyone's parents allow their children to join. And it is impossible to not have a single banner clicked when the free version client is loaded at least half a million times a day. To be honest, it is sad to see those who are so dedicated to the game training on the free servers and suffering a great deal of boredom. The free members are also being segregated in a much larger scale in a totally different factor. Not being segregated by the lack of updates, but segregated by social behavior. All too often we hear arrogant Members flaming free version users for no reason. It is the 1960's all over again. But why? The reason that some arrogant Members show segregation towards free users because they think that since they pay, they are better than everyone that doesn't. We should not think this way and judge people because of their status. The status of a person does not determine his or her character - the behavior does. By means of psychology, it is extremely common to be segregated when one has a lower status than others. Though many of us may be free version members, we do not deserve to be treated like rubbish just because our parents don't let us pay. If we treat everyone with respect, then we deserve to be treated the same. Ever since the Members service has been launched, we have been separated. We are a world apart. The free players have been forgotten and reside in the abyss of oblivion. But we shall not be ignored forever. We shall let our voices be heard. But we are not separated by any country. We are not separated by any company. We are separated by ourselves. Before the Members service, we were like brothers, sisters, and counsins in the RuneScape social family. But after the Members service, many friends have turned against one another because they think that since their friends are not paying Members, they are not worthy. In a sense, we are engaged in a social civil war. The free version users and the Members who used to share the Lesser Demon cave or their favorite spot to fish have mostly been separated. Separated and long lost. The life of RuneScape has only begun. At the good will of the people, things can and will change. What we can always do is hope. I hope that some day, the flame wars between the free users and the paying Members will be extinguished eternally. I hope that the free users and the paying Members can someday embrace each other socially in the light of harmony and away from the shadows of prejudice. I hope that some day, the residents of Misthalin can trade goods with those that live near the shining coast of Kandarin. I have a strong feeling that this may happen some day. Some day, those in the free version and those in the Members version will become brothers and sisters again. One day, I hope that the Members will use their benefits to help their free version friends, not taunt those who are not allowed to pay. We must not give up our hope for harmony. I myself am a former Member, yet I still fight against discrimination against the free players. I ask a favor to those who agree with me: to join and fight for the end to this unnecessary prejudice.
  6. ... that would end up with infinity/infinity, because the number of chain drops is dependent upon the number killed. Because infinity/infinity is an indeterminate form, you would have no answer. How do you make the little infinity symbol anyway?? You use L'HÃÆÃâÃâôpital's rule. ie: lim x->ÃÆâÃâ¹Ã¢â¬Â Ãâ¦Ã¾ (0.5x/x) would equal 0.5. Also, to insert non-ASCII symbols, you can just copy and paste the "Unicodified" symbols here.
  7. Funny. All of a sudden, there's a huge influx of sales involving massive amounts of essence.
  8. Scammers deserve a good whipping for being bad anyway.
  9. Since the d2h has an area-effect attack, would it be sensible for players to stand in a safe area and keep using the special attack? Granted, this will take many hours to kill very high level monsters. But theoretically, is this possible?
  10. It seems to happen with the free version more. In any case, just restart the client.
  11. I started in early February 2001, like on February 6. Can't remember exactly. :P
  12. True, $5/mo is very cheap. But the topic starter has a point. When you are a member for a very long time, it all adds up. Especially for those with more than one memebrs account.
  13. Hans played his role in the Lost Tribe quest.
  14. I also remember the hiscores that Andrew gave out. Back in the very old days, the top skill totals were like 400 lol. Oh, and Gugge was the 3rd top fighter for a very long time.
  15. My first members moment was back in July 2002. I remember that the first thing I did was to do the Druidic Ritual quest so I could start herblaw lol.
  16. I attempted ME2 at level 59 agility and crossed the gap the first time with only 4 or 5 fails. However, the second time, I failed 22 times in a row without success! I guess that explains why tip.it suggests at least level 70 agility and Runevillage suggests "A wide range of cuss words to spit at your monitor through gritted teeth."
  17. Statistically, its probably possible to get a good estimate, if we all work together and keep logs. It'd be reasonable to say that that rate of d-chain drops from dust devils is lim x->ÃÆâÃâ¹Ã¢â¬Â Ãâ¦Ã¾ (number of drops/x) where x is the number of dust devils killed.
  18. Although Jagex refuses to give out specifics, we can always make (educated) guesses on how often NPCs drop certain items. For example, the drop rate of the d-chain from dust devils is conjectured to be between 1/20,000 and 1/50,000. Does anyone else have guessed figures on drop rates? I'm particularly interested in drop rates of whips from abyssal demons, d-meds from monsters that drop them, and shield half from popular monsters. Thanks.
  19. Is it theoretically possible for a trojan to remove itself from a computer? Because many people being "hacked" report using different scanners and not finding anything. Also, some advanced trojans seem to be able to record bank pins, so they have to be very advanced.
  20. For those of you who have remained a free player for all your life, I have a few questions: 1. What made you remain f2p? 2. Have you ever wanted to be member? 3. Do you plan to be a member in the future? I know that I'm not really qualified to answer this as I have acucmulated 6 months of members now, but before I was ever a member, I remained f2p because my parents would object to members. I'd like to hear from high level f2p players, like Mendark 9. :)
  21. The last part in the Rat Catchers quest is an obvious reference to the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
  22. Does anyone remember these times? First level 99 woodcutter - Everdred (he had the first level 99 skill) First level 99 mage - Bluerose13x (She passed Zaptone Z who held the position as top mage for a very long time. Zaptone Z was the guy famous for stealing kills with the "Fear" spell. He was later banned, but not for stealing kills.) First level 99 smith - Bluerose13x (I remember with the old smithing tables, she was the first to be able to make steel kites. Of course, she got lots of stress from others, and she posted a topic like "steel kites - back off or off!" Of course, someone had to make a parody thread "bronze daggers - back off or off!" This was when the forums had no censor, lol. Also, Gormis was the second player to reach level 99 smithing and magic. Some people considered him "the second Bluerose". Sadly, he was laterl banned.) First level 99 fighter - Zonghui First level 99 cook - Tks First level 99 fisher - Tks (For the record, Big10fan (once a forum mod at tip.it) was the top fisher, but he quit shortly after.) First level 99 ranger - Snake Slava (The player Speedis had a pure archer named Archer Speed, and he held the #1 spot for a very long time with 75 ranged.) First level 99 thief - Swedemike? I can't remember much. Firdt person to be able to craft diamond amulets - Mysticsmagic First person to mine adamantite - S H A R K (was often confused with Paul Gower's playing character, Shark) First person to mine rune - likely Ezarc (there was conflicts on whether Ezarc of Kibble was the first) First person to get all 99s - Zezima (I remember that L6vi had both the highest skill total and the highest total exp for a while, but he quit shortly after. :() First person to mine and smith iron, steel, and mithril - Dmonik Inventor of drop parties - Dumb Woob (his events were called "Running of the Newbies") Inventor of "freak trains" - possibly Oergg UNfortunately, that's all I remember. Anyone care to spark my memory? :) (First person to get 1000 skill total, etc.)
  23. Well, it's all luck. It's possible that some Member will get a d-chain on his first dust devil kill. It's safe to say that "he didn't work for it".
  24. Would it be a bad idea to make random event objects tradable? I mean, they're not like the new holiday items. Also, some random event objects can be very rare. There are some people who have gotten many dragon drops and not even one mime. What do you think? Should they be tradable? (If not, Jagex should add an NPC that buys these outfits for a certain amount of gold.)
