3,000 word Jagex Research Review (MechScape focussed)
No, just an ardent researcher (hence all the sources). I have however chatted with some Jagex employees in real life which is where a very small amount of the information came from. Ah, I see. Impressive! Good, I'm occasionally worried that a game that I've invested a lot of time in will die out. :P I also like the whole 'funorb games on mobile phones' move, I like some of the games like Archanists, but mobile phones don't play well with Java (Iphone 3G, I'm looking at you...)

Nice. A great read. How do you find all your info on Jagex? Are you an employee or somehow affiliated with them?

FireCape- Am i ready?
Your good with your levels. If possible, try to borrow a sgs - it's unbelievably helpfull. I took one, and it took a grand total of: 0 doses of saradomin brew 3 super restores (4) to get to Jad. Then I messed up while luring healers. Twice. Ah well, can always try again... :| Seriously, your fine. A little practice never hurts though; if you don't get it on the first try, you'll use far less potions on the 2nd.

If you mean 'respect' by 'not farcasting', that's like saying the melee player can 'respect' you by not wearing armor. Farcasting is a built in advantage for mages, DESIGNED for them. Do you think Jagex put ice barrage in just for the pretty animations? Trust me, I'm a firm believer in using any tactic or opportunity you can to win. Perhaps we have different speculations on respect. You don't respect somebody by PJ'ing or piling on a fighter who is only using what his combat class is. Mage's are the only class that isn't respected, as nobody thinks they can actually fight, and, because of it, pile them. I beg to differ - I believe that piling came about from the early Castle Wars days, when DT just came out and mages were crazily powerful as it was previously ONLY meleers. Everyone had to pile them to have a chance of taking them down. A skilled mage is still far more dangerous then an equally leveled melee player; hence why they are swarmed. Tactics like blood barrage can easily counter this, however.

Could I melee barrows with my bgs?EDIT: New questions
It's possible, but a salamander is MUCH faster and FAR more profitable. I don't really see any reason to melee them unless your just messing around for fun.

stealing creation or void when chinning?
SC armor is not worth using during range. Therefore, no armor > SC armor, and void >> SC armor. Range = 160k XP\free, SC armor = worth it if you can get less then 90k per hour in the skill for free. You'll spend almost twice as long if you use SC armor, simply because of the time it takes to acquire it.

Range Haters United!
Who? you. #-o I do spirit mages (550k profit\60k XP per hour) and use the profit to do chins (450k loss, 240k XP\hour), with 1.22 hours of chins per hour of spirit mages for an average of 160k XP per hour, free; same thing can be done with avansies. Range is able to hit very effectively, even with plain or broad (11 gp per shot!) bolts. Diamond bolts (e), the most expensive widely used bolts, cost a whopping 100k per hour. A ranger vs. a meleer of the same combat will DESTROY the meleer. Range is MASSIVLY overpowered; I've defeated maxed combat players (with an equivalent of 1.5x the offensive combat level) with 99 range. A skilled ranger is also able to take down a mage easily, though it is easier for them to kill a meleer. Ever since the release of crossbows Rangers have had a huge advantage over the combat triangle, being 3 times as fast to train as melee yet easily defeating it - even though melee is supposed to beat them!

Full Dragon owns People are just dumb
IMO barrows looks WAY better then 3rd age, and I'm sure that if 3rd age was common it would be the same way. It doesn't make sense - 3rd age is simply expensive because it's rare, and I don't think that's what Jagex meant for. By releasing barrows, they invalidated EVERY single other piece of armor in the game for years - barrows is just plain the best for EVERYTHING, period. And yet it's a super common armor, incredibly easy and cheap to get, even for 100- players.

Game Camera (In Wilderness)
there are several places in the f2p area that are very hilly, and atleast with the chaos elemental, you know where it spawns (well, most would be aware of that) It's true, but that place is by far the worst with huge elevation changes. Although, I play at 1920X1200, so I've got a pretty wide viewing angle period #-o

Armoured Zombies...
Yup, I'd say 85-90k at your stats. Remember it's over 100k maxed...

building up drop potential
Do you actually need to loose the 75k when you get killed (I.E. wear 3 expensive items + 75.001k cash) or is just 75k in armour enough? Put on protect item prayer and look at your 'kept on death' screen. The top 4 items are saved, the rest must add to 75k. So you need to have 4 valuable items + 75k. Okay. So you are smithing addy bars 3iteming + 25k cash ? (25k cash + (26-1 saved with protect)*2k (=50k) = 75k). Not sure if your factoring in addy bar costs, but I smithed them while wearing karils top\veracs skirt\ring of life\dd++ for my 4 protected items, and a zammy stole for my 'lost' item so that I didn't lose any invo space. I used a summon (war tortise to help with smithing) to boost my combat level so that very few people could attack me, and my karils protected from teleblock + dd++ kept most rangers\meleers away. Yeah, I factored in addy bars at 2k each (actually, the minimum is 2100, with addy arrowtips at 140 each). Your way may be better though, thankss for sharing. Only downside is that it's a bit riskier to afk smith this way. I put it in the corner of my screen while I'm doing other stuff, not much goes on in that area so you notice when a red dot comes on. Your basically safe though, click the house tele tab in invo and your fine. Okay, just tried it today. I was wearing what you suggested, except, no dds. Clay hammer protects over stole so I'd stil loose stole. Saves me my hammer if I die (protects over row), at the cost of looking less "scary". I brought a bunyip as familiar, dunno why, doesnt matter. Anyway, I got attacked several times. A few times by a one item agser (seriously, all he was carrying was ags). No biggy. However, later I got attacked 3 times by a dclwawer who was carrying teleblocks, zammy strikes, whip, ... . First 2 times I got away by just running to bank (was teleblocked). He logged so I tried again, however I brought a few brews, cause somethign told me he would log in again soon. Guess what, 2 min later, bam dclawed again. If it wasnt cause of the brews, I was dead :-). Long story short: for me it didnt work out. Might be cause of the crowd (1250 people in there), or cause I was unlucky, dunno. I'm not considering afking while doing this, hehe. What world? I use 65, and never had problems. Use the far anvil; if you stand on the east side and call your summon, it'll tell you it cant fit, but a second later it'll show up where your standing. I've found that your overlooked by virtually all pkers while squirreled away in the corner. I've semi-AFKed (bathroom\snack etc.) with no problems.

merchanting what to merchant
At 100k, your better off runecrafting etc. to make money. People aren't likely to give out merchanting secrets; once a few people find out, it's ruined.

Should the logout timer be removed?
Just answer this: What would it be useful for? Virtually all of the posts I've seen, including the OP, are talking about going to the bathroom, feeding the dog, getting a snack etc. - which is AGAINST THE RULES, and IMHO was the reason the logout timer was created. A macro is actually doing things, so a log out timer has nothing to do with that. Reading the forums is the only (feeble) excuse I've heard, but how many actions take longer then the minute timer besides combat, to which it doesn't apply? And for those that do, not that I can think of any, putting the RS window in the corner solves the problem nicely. There's just no use of lengthening the logout timer.

Game Camera (In Wilderness)
The only main place I can think of where this is a serious problem is around the chaos elemental area...

Thanks. Too many people won't read between the lines. Too many more won't admit they were wrong.

Summoning Pet Restriction? GAH!
If it wasn't made for pets, then why do we have pets linked to the summoning skill? Pets do help me with summoning, it makes me want to train what I consider a fairly useless skill in regards to the way I personally play this game. Unfortunately, there is a limit. Just like there's a limit to bank space. And a limit to house size. I hate to say 'deal with it', but it's pretty generous (are you ever even going use more then 9 pets?) and I don't see any big reasons to change it.

Revernants still overpowered (for sure in F2P)
I have, however, been in and around the wilderness much more then you for everything from green drags to MTA. You also appear to be clueless of reverant tactics, saying that they can kill you; they don't have the slightest chance, as they cannot hit 99 in 1 hit. Therefore, the max damage they can deal to you is around 30, and that's unlikely, as they usually try their freezing range attack first - giving you time to run behind and hop. They are nowhere near as common as '25% of the worlds'; not only do I go in the wilderness a great deal, I have several friends that mine rune, and they do not see them often. They also agree the reverants are completely wimpy compared to a PKer, not likely to hit at all on a player in the 2 or so attacks they get. They need to be made smarter, protection prayers greatly reduced, and given the ability to run. Then they can start to be PKerish.

Full Dragon owns People are just dumb
3rd Age is only better in crush, so the same statement goes for it. I will always stand by the statement that Barrows was released far too early and that it is too easily gotten; it has essentially crippled and shriveled the evolution process for armor, and releasing 3rd Age didn't help and probably wouldn't have helped even if we had never gotten Barrows at 3rd Age's current rarity. Later releases [than Barrows] like Granite and Waterbirth sets didn't help at all. I wish JaGEx would listen to the statement, "We have nowhere to go but up," rather than taking a step forward and two steps back, so to speak, with useless or overpriced armor. As for the whole DFS Vs. Rune Defender debate, holding a DFS actually causes me to get hit more often than when holding something else. Last line: imaginary. Previous paragraph: EXACTLY! I posted this in the general discussion a while back, but my point is that BARROWS should be that ubier-rare 100m+ armor with the amazing stats, not the other way around. Perhaps making them 100x rarer in barrows and converting all the current armor to its market worth in GP would solve the problem.

Err... is anyone else getting a messed up quote in my 2nd post? The post I quoted works fine, but in the quote it shows '[scam].com/[scam]'. Something wrong with tip.it's censor?

Pest Control & Tormented Demons
Lose 90%+ of the time? Muggi must have gone at a bad time, I've had at least 4k points in w144, and I win better then 90% of the time; I found HU worlds took too long per game start to make it worth hopping, but I haven't tried them in a while. He's saying that nine out of ten losses are caused by lazy people leaving the door open, not that he was losing 90% of the games. Ah, misread. Yeah, I try to close to door, but I've been known to leave it open when I'm feeling lazy. #-o
