  1. Nope, I'm not going to change my mind the slightest. Fine with me, but know that your wasting hundreds of millions just so you can get to mediocre training monsters with low XP and decent drops. Ask anyone you want with 85 slayer; camping abyssals is a bad idea :-#
  2. It depends. From one viewpoint, different monsters only vary by the length of their HP bar and their attack animation and ability to hit\be hit, so all monsters should be equal in fun and as such the most efficient one would provide the most fun, as you would be getting the most XP and the best drops. But people classify fun in strange ways, so its impossible to argue against. The point 'i think its fun so i can do whatever i thinks fun cause its a game' will easily end an argument; any response can be killed, and there is no argument against it. Who's to say what is or isn't fun for you. So my post is kind of pointless.
  3. Slayer monsters dont generally give good xp. Only a few tasks do/can, EG bloodvelds for range, and black demons for melee/range. I personally find slayer fun, but stop as soon as i get a bad task. I eventually just do the task and everything, get a new one and its usually bad again :| . But seriously, I think this has gone long enough, P.S. I got over 150k range xp in turoths, fire giants, and turoths. It's not that bad. :| That last line annoys me; don't use total XP for comparison purposes. I just trained off level 7 men for 20 hours straight, and got 160k XP. That means level 7 men are better XP then slayer, right? Sorry, just a pet peeve :wall: It isn't good money. It's 50-60k per hour, much less if your ranging. Clues are somewhat of a joke nowdays; few people that I know even bother to do level 3. I know I don't Lol, speaking of sleep... 4 hours last night for me, going to be gone all day today hiking. It's gonna be a great day...
  4. See, the problem is that most high level players already have done the majority of the quests, if only for the 175 points of RFD. I've got over 200 points, and every difficult quest done except MEPII, but I have no intention of doing the last few quests for the cape. I see no point; given that I could get the cape in a couple of days of hard questing after MEPII, I don't see it as an achievement to be compared to a 99, even in cooking. Besides that, no prayer bonus from quest cape. Jagex needs to get that achievement cape out there...
  5. thats bloody insane. I just timed my boot sequence, and it was 33 seconds to desktop. thats more than freakin' double the time. Words cant describe how incredibly jealous of your PC I am. It's all due to the miracles of SSDs. I uninstalled my HD benchmarking programs, so no screenshots, but my read and write times are both well north of 100 MBs. My random access time is .34 miliseconds; that alone tells you the story. And its in a standard LAPTOP form factor. Did I mention 1/4th the power consumption of mechanical hard drives, the 0 vibration due to no moving parts, the virtually 0 heat production for the same reason, the 1,500G shock rating, or the huge reliability increase over moving hard drives? Oh, it cost $260, a bit more then a typical hard drive, but not really considering the advantages. I'm tellin ya, SSDs are the hard drives of the future. Every build of mine from now on is going to come with onoe.
  6. I can make money so much faster then I do fishing and woodcutting, does that mean every single runescaper should utterly abandon these skills and just have half the rs population go GW boss hunting? Nu uh. As mentioned, slayer is a skill and if you want a good all-around account then you will sooner or later have to train it. Since when was slayer all about money anyway? If your only motive in slayer is to get 85 slayer and camp at abby demons you have some serious re-considering to do, the perks of slayer are variety, yes. To me, the slower exp/hr is worth it even from the experience perspective. How? Because if I bore and I see I have 100 monsters left, I will happily kill those last 100 monsters. If I bore in standard training, I will go on to something else instantly - I don't play this game for stats but for fun. Having said it - many people find slayer FUN. Who is anyone to argue that people shouldn't do what they find enjoyable? While your objective in slayer has been nerfed, that does not mean everyone elses is. That is true; HOWEVER, most skills, at least at one time, have a reason to train them. You could get 55 slayer and go about your business without ever once missing it - no quests require higher, and spiritual mages are about the only monster you will commonly bump into requiring a higher level. I guess it all boils down to this. Slayer is a very bad way to train combat, the cash, XP, and charms are all far outdone by other places. It is wiledly inefficient, somewhat dangerous at times, and very frustrating at others. Training the skill to a high level has virtually zero advantages, and the skill is trained for the fun of training, not to gain XP. I just wish people wouuld say that instead of saying 'slayer' on every thread asking how to train combat. If people enjoy the skill and are willing to make huge sacrifices for it, then let them make that choice. But it aint the best way, not by a long shot (IN MY OPINION; OTHERS MAY VARY) ;) Except that you can earn more money, get more XP, and get far more charms from different monsters in the time it would take you to train slayer. That argument is stuipd; and it has already been addressed in my first post. Please re read. Very true. If you find slayer fun, then it is your personal choice to slow down your XP so that you can train slayer. Just know that your sacrificing huge amounts of cash and XP. The common opinion appears to be 'ya well slayer is the best overall way to train combat'. It isn't. If you find it fun, then train it.

I knew the argument would come up, and I agree. AGS IS fun; the animation is great, its a well known and respected godsword, and the KO ability is huge. The problem is, each special is really only increasing your hit by 8 on average, with maxed strength bonus - and if you hit 70 with spec, you would have hit 56 normally anyway. It is fun, though. Can't deny that.
  8. You don't get 90 slayer if you think it's sucky. Please read the entire post. The XP is bad, the charms are bad, the cash is horrible. For more detail, read the first post. It has a bit more information then the title :-) Many of my stats over 90, I think are " Sucky ". Slayer not included. How can you say the cash through Slayer is horrible? You don't even have 83 slayer. Yes, it is at a lower level. Once you hit 83+ that's where the big cash comes in. As with any other skill, the higher the level, the more likely it is you will make better money. Prices since GE came, have fell. Slayer isn't as good with money as it was before. But it's still pretty damn good. Yes, the Charms through Slayer isn't as fast as Fiends/Lobs, but as I said, Different tasks > Capming in one place. Anyone you talk to, with 90+ Slayer will tell you the same thing. That's exactly what I'm saying - the time spent at 83+ slayer where your earning 300k an hour at abbys or mages is small; on AVERAGE your seeing 50-75k an hour profit. The tasks vs. camping argument was, as every other argument, addressed in my first post. Re-read it carefully - it might change a future post ;)

I haven't been to bandos recently, but when I was I found sgs much more valuable - The amount of time we spent fighting other teams vs. the time we were killing solo made SGS great, and AGS really only useful maybe once every trip. I really don't think so - the only boss it is truly useful at is Bandos, and possible zammy.

  11. ROFL nub ur an idiot. Look at ur stats nrd, play rs more b4 u complan. Mods r kwl, ur just mad ur not 1 Anyway, I agree with your 'flamer' part, but not the 'mod wannabees'. Rules are rules, if you said something you shouldn't you should be punished according to Jagex's rules. I'm a 'wannabe mod'; I'd love to be a moderator, and I report any serious wrongdoings. Rant about the rules if you will, but if you break them (even accidentally), your going to be punished. Easy solution - never say anything bad hoping that the censor will catch it - it can come back to haunt you. I've still got 2 blackmarks from saying a 'censored word' with a t at the end that somehow prevented it from being censored. If you must, just type 4 *s instead of the word. Same result, no consequence ;)

5 posts, 7 views. I like how quiet Tip.It gets at this hour. Go to bed already, Ray! I'll hop over and read your post, I can already guess what its about though. I'd be willing to bet that at least 80% of Tip.It's current member list would say AGS>SGS for PVP if polled. I know that out of the 197 people on my RS friends list, 2 of them thought SGS was better.
  13. I'm happy with any charms, it's just that golds are a tiny fraction of the XP of crimson at higher summoning levels due to gold XP topping out at a low level. They just don't drop a lot of charms. Sorry about the spelling, but numbers are numbers - like or hate his guides, they don't lie. I'm sure he'll jump in this thread sooner or later, I know he likes slayer so I'm looking forward to some good debates :) People aren't wasting their cash if they can make more then 192k an hour - if they can make more then that and they choose to do waterfiends instead of bursting, then they ARE wasting cash. Time is money.
  14. compfreak847 replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
Nah, it really doesn't - that +25% to hit means that you get 1/2 an extra hit every 5 minutes. It's not even worth bringing to Sara. Not lately, Tip.it has been going down a bit IMO. We're turning into another immature, uninformed community. Philip Kolar's post on my other thread made me really wish he was around as much as he used to be.

What? Trolling? Two of my posts on the other thread together were 8 full pages, 4,139 words. Kind of a lot of work for a troll, donchyathink? I'm taking care of two arguments that I wanted to post for a long time. Both of them have valid information that goes against the 'common knowledge'. And virtually every player on RS, and most on Tipit, think that AGS is better. And SGS is better for GWD too, unless your fighting a team at Bandos.
  16. You probably haven't seen it, but a long series of calculations that me and Inushkant did proved that bursting is better then waterfiends (the 2nd best charm dropper) if you make more then 192k per hour. Dust devils were worse if you made something like <60k an hour. Those are the only two slayer monsters which drop a decent amount of charms; both are fairly uncommon tasks. Slayer monsters do not drop a lot of charms.

My next pet peeve. AGS, that hawt, high price godsword, sucks. Look at the spec vs. sgs; it's simple mathematics. A normal '50' hit: AGS = 63, 13 higher hit SGS = 50, +25 hitpoints, +13 prayer SGS always heals at least twice the extra damage that AGS spec adds - effectively making 1 SGS spec worth 2 AGS specs. When you happen to hit below 20, as happens at least 1/3rd the time, AGS spec becomes almost worthless and SGS spec still does great. For any type of monster hunting, SGS is very useful, unlike AGS. The only use for AGS is a KO in an eating fight (Seriously, who does those nowdays? Not many people fight a real, 1 v 1 fight to the death with AGS anymore these days. AGS is fun to use, but I really can't see a use for it.
  18. I guess... I have the patience though, seeings how I just hit logon and let my character do the work for me, so that when I actually play I can do the fun stuff =P~ Slayer is bad charms. I did a LOT of testing before deciding to barrage rock lobsters for 88 summoning, and the horrible XP and drops from slayer make the measly amount of charms pale in comparison. And at 180k mage and 80k HP XP\Hour, I maxed out mage and HP quite nicely. Which was great, considering that I hated training mage before that.

Most people just glance over sigs and names, I have been known to put my name under my post after a post that I consider to be particularly helpful. This has something to do with my RSN being different then my Tip.IT name, though.
  20. It's a good idea, but apparently Tip.It isn't doing that, or this thread would have been locked long ago. At least if we made it a sticky we could eliminate a lot of these threads...
  21. My RS is doing the same thing - Disconnect, lockup, SOMETIMES error and crash when I try to reload. I hate it. I have the latest version of Java, the latest drivers, the latest everything, blah blah blah - I've tried it on at least 7 different internet connections, all the the same problem. It started a week or two ago with a certain update, can't remember which one. Haven't found a fix yet, but I'll PM you if I ever manage to.
  22. Please, do yourself a favor and don't range slayer :wall: I'm at Spiders as I type this post, getting 65k XP an hour for virtually no cost. It's not boring at all. That's an interesting argument, I guess. But your saying the XP 'seems' faster; in reality it isn't, your just not looking at it as often. From the 'hours to 99' standpoint, your XP is still way slower then other methods. An interesting argument, though.
  23. No, it's not. Slayer is very very bad summoning XP. Abyssals are OK for cash, I guess, if your counting non boss monsters for combat. Still nowhere near the best, though. I get 40k melee XP and 600k profit from green dragons, plus a decent amount of charms. Avansies are ~400k profit and ~40k range XP an hour. From what I hear, abyssals really are not good for camping, but a nice perk on task. Good point about the summoning, but you really don't get that many charms for slayer. Some tasks drop a lot, but most only drop a few, and the ones that do are mostly gold. (Bleh at higher levels)
  24. This is a record. The first postive post of yours I've ever seen on one of my threads :-# (Nothing personal, you like to point out faults :) ) Oh, and the first part of your post also stuns me.
  25. I've had a similar thing happen to me before, it's irratating but avoidable. Firstly, the obvious blacklist is there and helps plenty if you use it well. Many people blacklist tasks they hate the most, such as wyverns. This is actually quite stupid - lets say you have 5 certain tasks that you hate and will not do under any circumstance, for the ease of reference lets say they're gargoyles, wyverns, steel drags, iron drags and bronze dragons. Which do you blacklist? The immediate reaction would be to black list the ones you hate the most (lets say you hate gargoyles the MOST), leaving the one you hate the least, lets say iron drags, to be skipped with points. The most effective thing to blacklist are GARGOYLES because they are MUCH more frequent tasks then iron dragons (even if it's not true in your experience, it's just an example). This will save you many many slayer points and in turn much money. You were in the mistake of not keeping a safe cushion of points to skip tasks, thus you had to pay the price of completing some unwanted tasks. I'd argue that slayer is much much safer. I haven't died to a monster for over 2 years (estimate) but just a few weeks ago I dc'ed at monkies and died. DC's at monkies are a big threat because they will eat you alive if your prayer doesn't last. I lost 500k-ish worth of pots and nearly lost my berserker ring and god cloak (my pile disappeared just as I got to it - no gravestone when you DC). I'll agree with this on the terms of hoping for new monsters. While I'd really like a new slayer monster I know getting my hopes up is just asking for a disappointment. However many people fail to see that the real profit from slayer comes not from the fancy whip & dragon boot drops but from the monsters that you kill in training slayer. The slayer mask makes certain profitable monster viable to train on. For example (a pretty bad one, but I can't be bothered thinking of a good one), abby demons are usually horrid xp but a slayer makes them decent exp while also good money (people seem to act like the only way to profit from abby demons is getting a whip drop, which is very much so wrong). I like to keep loot from 10-20 tasks in my bank and then sell it to see how much money I gain each time - I normally make nearly 1m from those 10-20 tasks and if I get lucky (a whip drop or multiple spirit mage tasks) I can make upwards of 2m. For casual training, that's quite a nice reward. No argument here, slayer highly favours melee, which can be a big downside to any rangers out there. Lastly there's the arguement that levels are levels and if you're a maxed player who has lvl ~50 slayer, it's really going to hurt you badly if your going to try to get the highest total level you can. When people compare exp at a spot such as zombie monkies vs. slayer, they almost ALWAYS forget to add in the slayer exp which is worth it's weight in gold. Sir, you have just regenerated my faith in Tip.it's community. You need to post here more. See, I had just bought my slayer mask, which I found almost imperative - I thought a cushion of 71 points would be reasonable, seeings how I already had 3 blacklisted tasks and the next task would be my 50th, with the corresponding points bonus =P~ There are really a lot of garbage slayer tasks, though. I won't go into details, but I hate many of the slayer monsters - black demons, kalphites, dagganoths - the ones that are considered 'good', I can hardly stand. I can't agree with you there. I have died numerous times at slayer, including from reasons as stuipd as bringing a zammy book instead of dragonfire shield to metal dragons when maging (Bye bye ahrims, infinity boots, and several million in runes). Keep your prayer near its highest level, drinking whenever you're down however many points your prayer pots heal makes DCing mean nothing, and even if you do die it's not that bad. Your items DO stay the full 5 minutes when you DC, and you should be able to get back in well under a minute - all you have to do is withdraw the runes for ape atoll tele + the teleport of your choice, tele there, and pray melee while you run down and grab your stuff. If I die in my outfit, I lose rune defender (ouch), nezinot helm + proslyte, dragon boots, and HP cape, along with a few various and sundry items worth very little. Rune defender is painful, but so far I haven't had a problem, and I've got plenty of spares. All the rest are easily earned back in under an hour. Oh, and I carry a ring of life - which makes the chances of dying upon DC, prayer runout, and constant hitting less then 1/2, as the monkey's max hit is 14 and my ROL will tele me out at 9 hp or lower. Taking berserker is a big no no, in my opinion. Ring of life has saved me roughly 30m over the years, I'm a big fan : See, it's covered - I firmly believe that 50k an hour is a good estimate of the profit, and have figured that into my calculations. That's true, if your going for total levels it is probably worth it to train slayer in the mid 70-80s. However, the XP from slayer is only 1/4th that of melee XP, or 12.5k an hour - making the total 62.5k per hour, still far short of zombie monkies 110k. As for the first part of your post, I can hardly believe my eyes. I would have sworn no one would put that in their post. No one, and I mean no one, reads the whole post these days. You really need to spend more time on Tip.it
