  1. Me too, didn't take me long to switch back. I missed the Linux command line too much. Window's restrictive, illogical CLI is useless and annoying to use.
  2. Yeah it's highly unlikely. The closest thing I can think of is setting "subscribe to topics that I post on" to on, and setting up an email filter to search the summary for quotes. Although that wouldn't work every time.
  3. Transparency: Since the code is open, you also know that your data is being treated with respect. Freedom: Not only to view the code but you can do just about whatever you want with the programs. You don't need to worry about activation keys if something breaks. You can get a deeper understanding of the system, among other things since the Linux command line is so well documented. Runs on pretty much anything. I have the Karmic Koala running on a 12 year old laptop (366MhZ/256MB/No graphics acceleration). It boots up in about a minute, something my desktop couldn't do with a fresh install of Vista. The problem with Windows 7 is that it's locked into new hardware; Ubuntu runs decently on lots of hardware. There's no sudden cutoff where the boot speed goes up to minutes. The system makes so much sense! If you want lots of eyecandy, Kubuntu/KDE offers it.
  4. Working on a CLI decimal to binary converter in C, just to prove to my sister that I am, indeed, teh h4x0r. Not going so well, having problems with my error checking. You know, I should probably write the converter first and worry about whether the input is a number or not later, but yeah. I guess I'm still too used to PHP forms. Will post the source if I ever finish it.
  5. I'm really sensitive to caffeine, or then I'm just sensitive to really dark coffee, which is what I drink, albeit only once a week I'm so sensitive. Really enjoy it though. I'm not a big fan of energy drinks, I tasted a local brand once (Battery) and thought it tasted OK but I don't like the feeling when I have too much caffeine, which isn't much for me, literally half a deciliter of pretty dark coffee will affect me for the rest of the day.
  6. Yeah HD mode. (Standard detail is fixed width anyway, I think).
  7. Tried RS yesterday stretched across two 20" screens, worked fine (Albeit a bit slow at times- My computer is getting older :/).
  8. Look, the shape is fine- It's the presentation that's lacking. You're just using Arial for a font, and the colors don't go well together. Let's make it simpler: Just a smooth slight gradient and Titillium semibold for the font. Or, we can make the gradient something a bit lighter: (Too light on a dark forum theme) Don't make it too complex. (On the other hand, simplicity should be the means and not the goal; There should be no point at which you can say that you have added enough nothing to call it finished).
  9. I don't consider myself a gamer (Never really have) and even I know this list is full of crap.
  10. ^ Hate the pentool in PS, incredibly counter-intuitive. One thing that GIMP did right.
  11. Haven't tried it with RS, I had a pretty smooth experience with Karmic + RS though.

    Today...

Erratic, not erotic. Erratic, not erotic. I would say that the "TIF population" is "better" than the general population in the way that the vast majority of us live in first-world countries where, for the most part, there is access to good education.
  13. Can't you make an opacity map for the windows?
  14. This thing is tender like you wouldn't believe. Juicy, too. i.e. I don't really have anything to contribute.
  15. Yeah get rid of that JS block in whatever way you choose, should fix it. It looks like you're blocking most of the forum JS.

    3 new.

Chaos looks good if it's done right IMO.

Nothing to say I guess other than that I really like your style, certainly original. :-)
  18. Yeah :| Of course, I believe that Blender has 4-5 paid developers right now, and will have ten more this summer. Blender is much bigger a deal than GIMP, which hasn't really done anything big for the last threeish years.
  19. I like the first one more, second is pretty cool but the aspect ratio kind of ruins it. Crop it wider.
  20. Why would you have to use a test server? I don't really know what the big deal with Dreamweaver is, if I want live previews of CSS changes, I can do that in Firebug. I still have slightly broken PS CS3 on Windows, and I don't really use either. If it can't be done in GIMP, it can be done in Inkscape. Been a while since I really actually used PS. So yeah, unless money appears out of the void into my hands, I'm not getting it. I don't get what's taking the GIMP developers so long, though; If you compare their development pace with that of Blender's, you really start to wonder what on earth is (Or rather isn't) going on with GIMP development.
  21. I have changed the color scheme almost entirely, It's very broken right now. Added a footer, started positioning the logo, made lots of other changes. Took some suggestions into consideration. I personally like the lighter approach I took to this color scheme, I think it works much better and makes it look more modern.
  22. The difference is not "Web 2.0" or not, the difference is basic graphic design. IPB's designers go with the flow too- It's just that they go too much with the flow and they're four years late to the glossiness fad. Even Apple is past that, they now use smooth slight gradients and flat colors, with the exception of program icons and a few other things.
  23. ^ I disagree strongly on your first point. IPB looks like it was designed by Fisher-Price, with all the unnecessarily big glossy bars everywhere.
