Arceus is because Editorial Panel pecking order A friend who is now unbelievably hyped for it because I mentioned it once when he brought up a general story element from something else, apparently, which isn't a bad thing in itself except said friend is extremely persistent and has very little regard for the fact that I can't sit down and work on it 24/7. Sort of feeds the positive feedback loop of secrecy that I'm starting to cultivate for whatever projects I happen to have.

Writing problems: Apparently some people don't get that "can we talk about this later" doesn't mean "why yes, I can dedicate the next seven hours to your self insert's personal romance arc even though I JUST TOLD YOU THAT I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF THE OUTLINE DONE TO TELL YOU HOW TO MAKE IT FIT IN WITH THE REST OF THE PLOT" And did I mention that he only caught wind of the project yesterday and is now demanding that I have it done by next month because even if I've been meticulously writing and rewriting everything to build a consistent and living setting for the better part of six months, he really wants to see that romance subplot and that is clearly more important than everything else in my life and I should drop everything and finish it even though he's monopolizing literally all of my free time and energy for this one [bleep]ing love triangle So basically, six months worth of hobbyist tinkering ruined in a day.

There's a fair bit of mixed messages behind the things, really. Jagex jumped through hoops to sell them as an elite status item, and then made them the sole focus of an elite status title. Would be better if they were just pets. :v

My patient is running out. I want to get 3rd age armor.

If it were that easy, it would not be worth a lot of money. -
There's also a lot of the second, even outside of the drop system. I just don't see why getting every lucky drop should make you more deserving of prestige than someone who put in the same amount of work, if not more, and just didn't get the drops. Kind of like the raffle a few months back, which Yomi also complained about because he came out empty handed while the rest of us took home multiple Warpriest and silverhawk sets, while I never won a skilling item even when there were less than 50k entries. Everyone put in the same effort, some people were rewarded for it. That's fine for a personal goal, but the drops should really be their own reward, as they are elsewhere in the drop system. The proposed boss pet system would have been perfect for this, really. Get lucky, or grind and spend a ton of soul reaper points for a random pet you have access to. The same thing, less chance of RNG [rooster].

Much as I hate how comkcally grindy the game is, at least that gave you some control over whether or not you achieved something. Because...well, is it still an achievement if you have no control over whether or not you've achieved it? Genuinely curious about what you guys think there.

Chaos Tunnels too, probably

But they retconned Zamorak -
That has nothing to do with the topic at hand...?

Can we not have nostalgia guide game design, please? Especially in the form of a system that punishes players for doing nothing other than fighting a boss that griefers can manipulate?

Well I'm thinking about having 20 amount of food like lobsters or sharks, and 5 prayer potions. I can't have much more than that since I also need 2 law and 2 water runes to get outta there when I'm low on health. Sharks/prayer potions/super attack and strength. Hybrid armor like Warpriest or Ghost Hunter if you have it, because if you don't want to upgrade your weapon you really can't afford an accuracy hit. If that still isn't enough, you will want to upgrade your weapon. Write that off as elitism if you want, but you're asking for advice and that would literally solve all of your problems.

Probably because it's just a really bad system no matter how rich you are, and doesn't really solve the problems they designed it around. And even within the players you consider endgame, there is a lot of variation~

Honestly, the nonexistent scaling they proposed is kind of a joke in itself. 200m GE in gear has a ~1m penalty? That's hardly even an inconvenience for someone of my means, let alone an endgame player. It's such a good value that I'd actually be worried about having cheated them. Meanwhile, someone wearing a tenth of that pays... 300k. So we have a gold sink that basically does nothing to players with money and costs a fairly disproportionate amount for lower levels... Yeah, that seems entirely reasonable and not at all counterproductive. And these are the examples they picked to show us that they knew what they were doing :v

I don't think a threshold system goes against the ideal at all, as it rewards dedication.

Pictured: why I quit -
The only PS1 game I've played, assuming the PC port of FF7 and vague memories of Legend of Dragoon don't count. Being Nintendo fan is suffering. I do have Tear Ring Saga lying around to try at a later date.

The point where you look at an achievement and go "Oh come on!" Or, if you'd prefer, the point where it becomes more about increasingly contrived 'achievements' than sensible design. 'Final Boss' isn't so widespread that it needs another tier, especially not one where the only tangible difference is that you have to essentially win the lottery to get it.

So you don't like being able to show off your achievements? Would you rather the game have no skill capes, no hiscores, no comp capes, no rares? Might as well make it singleplayer then. Oooooor you could completely make up an argument! That works too.
