  1. More posts went missing again? Beginning to wonder the point in making any posts on this thread if they're of such a transient nature.
  2. Upon deeper thought about FPS: Say the maximum rate eyes can operate at is indeed 60 Hz - the world is presented to us in 1/60 second snippets, Either that image can be formed as a composite of all that happened in the 1/60th of a second, or it can be a snapshot of a fraction of the 1/60th. Let's look at what happens in both cases. Composite image case: For any FPS less than or equal to 60 FPS, we see snapshots, so the next part would apply. For higher frame-rates, all of the frames viewed in the 1/60th of a second (in the 120 FPS example, 2 frames) would become blurred together. In this case the time advantage mentioned in the last post doesn't exist, however the information from the extra frames is not lost. In such a composite image the direction of motion could be gleaned in the form of the direction of the motion blur, or indeed its absence would suggest a static object. Snapshot image case: This is an interesting case, and a subtle concept. It's crucial to appreciate that there is no guarantee to the synchronisation of frames to images captured. As there is no guarantee of synchronisation, there is a potential latency between something changing on the screen, and it being captured by the eye. We'll say that the eye recaptures an image corresponding to 1/k seconds of time, where k ≥ 60. (Note that the composite aspect could still apply, just in smaller and smaller amounts as k increases). We'll also say our screen is operating at x FPS The maximum latency (Lmax) for k ≥ x is given in seconds by Lmax = 1/x - 1/k. It follows that latency will be minimised for x = k. As we have already established k ≥ 60, this means there is a benefit in reduced latency to an FPS ≥ 60. Either way, in the case of eyes limited to 60 Hz, there is still benefit to using a frame-rate greater than that. It's easier to appreciate by substituting a camera in place of the eyes. Definitely counterintuitive! Thanks for the info HunterDexter. Most of what I have been posting has been entirely theoretical, and in my scenario a computer with a camera attached would be interchangeable with a human body. (Obviously a flaw.) I find perception very interesting on both the Gedankenexperiment and biological levels. As a student of medicine, could you send me some pointers, perhaps via PM, on what I could read about pertaining to what you said, as vision itself is probably a large fairly inpenetrable topic. Though I'll have a look (tomorrow when I'm less exhausted from staring at this screen) at the "critical flicker fusion frequency".
  3. That's actually... wow.. actually quite good! I'd have played that.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean by the natural recognition speed. In nature, there isn't an FPS set on anything (I think we can ignore Planck lengths for this). There may be an FPS as which static images are indiscernible from motion, but that's not to say the information heralded by 120 FPS is wasted on us. Especially in for example first person shooters, where our incredibly fast peripheral vision can come into play. I've tried to put together a diagram to demonstrate how I understand 120 FPS to be better than 30. In case it's unclear, each square corresponds to 1/120th of a second, and the non-changing squares represent the shortfalls of the lower FPS. In 120 FPS the image of a grenade (or as it may be a slight darkness in one corner) will reach the brain 25 milliseconds before that of the 30 FPS user. Ideally, we would want to know the "sampling rate" of information by the human visual system to know when FPS is as high as it needs to be. My interpretation can be summed up by saying that 30/60 FPS is a limit of the part of the brain that generates the sensation of smooth motion, though there are other things the eyes do that aren't limited in the same way. I welcome criticism, I'm not educated on the subject & most of the above is deduction, and if the "sampling rate" is 60 Hz, then my theory is wrong.
  5. Haha nice sig Pingouin. She's only going to trade that dragon long for more drugs!
  6. Ammggg nostalgia.. Had completely forgotten how imps used to look... And the old scarab like kalphite queen..
  7. I don't understand your spreadsheet. The percent of keys used column seems to indicate that you got the primus signet on your first kill. If you notice, the percentages sum to 100 (ignoring rounding errors). The 4% corresponds to the percentage of all keys used getting each signet. In this case 21/506 = 4.15% (21/506 ≈ 20/500 ≈ 1/25).
  8. When you drink a dose of a potion as you attempt to catch a fish, it "resets" the timer, allowing you to make another attempt faster than naturally, ie without drinking a potion. The clever part of using overloads, was that even by attempting to drink the potion, you would effect the timer reset. Most of the time you'd be less than the 50 hp needed to drink the overload, so you wouldn't use up a dose, but you'd still get the benefits as if you had. Basically it allowed you to use the potion drinking "reset" without having to bank constantly for more potions. On that note, did the overload fix encompass adrenaline potions? I never tried with the old spec recovers...
  9. What does the PSA stand for in the title of this post?
  10. Came across this little gem on the forums, in reference to the new optional Edgeville respawn point costing 5M.
  11. That's always been a rather pervasive rumour with all new NPC content.
  12. Hey Kepler I appreciate those updates you do. If you want it all to line up you can use Courier New, it's a monospaced font as far as I remember! I personally doubt it's because Jabber has been playing more actual hours than Jebrim. It's certainly promising that there may still be some competition ahead!
  13. I like that with Vorago that although (theoretically) there isn't a risk of losing your items on death, there is a risk to dying - not being able to return to the trip.
  14. Yeah I'd say lower str higher attack & def is a worthwhile build. Having the right account won't make you a billionaire though, it can help though. A good staker/gambler will make money no matter what account they have, though having a specific account may make that happen faster. For example a level 3 account, stakes are going to come real slowly.
  15. How bad of me, I watched that video thinking "Ahh good, Mod Mark, a veritable authority on bacon".
  16. Hi, I wouldn't go to the trouble of restarting again on another account. Most of the people at the arena are not fools, and they will look you up on the highscores before doing a stake. (Most of the people, and definitely the people with any serious bank value) So they'll either choose to not stake you, or ask you to raise your stake 1.5x,2x, etc. It may be a nice trick to have up your sleeve for the very few chances when someone does stake you purely on the basis of your in game combat level, but that's going to be fairly rare, and probably not worth the extra difficulty of regaining your current stats & more with 1 prayer. In the cases where someone does stake you without knowing your stats, you could defeat them easily & they'll straight away check your highscores, and then not stake you again. There is an exception to what I've said, and that's creating two accounts with similar names. Aka jamesbOnd13O and jamesb0nd130. See the difference? Which would you be more likely to search for in the highscores - most people will search for the name with 0s. So that is the account you train noob stats on - 70 71 70 with 54 prayer - while your jamesbOnd with the letters gets 82 69 77 with 1 prayer. That's probably a bit dishonourable, and the people with the real money at the arena are wise.
  17. They could have made some form of official annoucement stating they were in fact DDOS attacks on the servers, as the rumour that it was a glitch due to the last form of Vorago took hold quickly, and strongly. They could even have made a publicity stunt of it by going all out "... and we will fight them on the beaches!".
  18. Current official word on GWD, more or less, is that they don't have the resources at the moment to bring it back into the game. They may have the resources in the fairly distant future. They're unsure that GWD would make it through the poll though, without some major rebalancing. So I take that as meaning gwd in over 6 months, or never.
