  1. Suggesting people wanted the game for its grinding. I'd have been happy if it was a cheat server where I could type ::meleestats 60 99 70
  2. Don't like altar 'x'? Don't use altar 'x'! Oh wait...?
  3. "It's a "feature", we promise, it was totally planned, and we have full control of it and could make it look normal, but err, we're deciding not to."
  4. Yeah, I agree. Chances are that the players that play OSRS are older players that played back in 2006-2008, while EoC would have many more younger players that don't have as much school work to do. Indeed, or they do have the work, but don't take it seriously. Regarding the post asking if Jagex has a public source of demographics - I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, but in a thread basically discussing the absolute dearth of new players, it can only logically imply an older average age on 07 than that on EoC.
  5. I honestly think it was more "The players who use big words keep saying we need more money sinks. Let's make one, before we release the next GP-generating-gizmo on the wheel.."
  6. It may seem a bit disconnected from what's been discussed, but one thing Jagex haven't done as much as they could have is having shared drops between bosses. All I can really think of is holy elixir coming from tormented wraith and corporeal beast. What's wrong with a mighty set of gear being strewn across multiple bosses. (Eg breathing some life into mith dragons, qbd, other forgotten bosses I've... forgotten) You could need 30+ players at any boss if the boss were a boss capable of healing itself, or it simply needed to be tanked for people to be able to get off enough attack turns to kill it. I'm unsure what the AU abbreviation means though, so you may have already encompassed healing in your post.
  7. Interestingly, if RS wiki has accurate information - slayer came out 26th Jan 2005, 99 slayer was achieved by Zezima on 9th July 2005. That is ~165 days to achieve it. 07scape was released on 22nd Feb 2013, 99 slayer there was achieved by Razzeh on 23rd April 2013. That is ~62 days to achieve it. Updates missing when Zezima got it - black mask, piety, fairy rings, agility shortcuts, rfd gloves, houses, ancient mage (it came out ~3 months after slayer), lunar mage, defenders, barrows gear (it came in about 4 months after slayer), list goes on.. To counterbalance this, on 07 of course it was starting from a level 3, bankwiped account. We leave it to the reader to come to their own conclusions on this. What always stood out to me was the cleanliness of Zezima's name, (not meaning phonetically or anything, although it is a cool name, and he would have been less memorable as ajwkz1118a...) Merely that bad rumours never really stuck to him.
  8. It is interesting. Can I be the one to point out the different demographic between the two games? Many on my friendlist are currently taking it slow due to end of term university exams, and intend to hit it hard after their exams have passed.
  9. I personally like low attack piety builds. The grass will always be greener though!
  10. 260k is including the smith and magic xp, I know its a bad way to present the xp rate. Generally using the total xp/hour is just a way to get views. It should be noted that the xp/hour of mining gold ore didn't change at all with the release of EOC. The only increase in xp/hour in the last few years is from the quickhop update. Yes the potential XP/hr remained the same, the realistic XP/hr on the other hand definitely increased, and it also became obtainable to a different type of player. </generally way off-topic posts, from me at least> On a side note I think we should reach a formal definition of the difference between more convenient, and easier. It keeps showing itself, here, EoC threads in general, and especially on the 07 forums. So far I've gleaned that if it's an update you'll use, you can call it convenient, and if you'll not use it, or use it begrudgingly, you can call it easier. There also seems to be a generally appreciated mutual exclusivity between the two terms, for which I can't find a basis.
  11. Ah the 260k quote is overall XP I believe. Ok superman.
  12. Perhaps your name corresponds to your experience with skills involving dropping, but anyone who has dropped to 99+ mining knows that even with mousekeys, dropping is hard. Rapid bursts of keyboard/mouse activity to drop without time waste is difficult, and then having to consistently reclick on rock. Let's compare: [spoiler=EOC]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVFs11YnIl4 [spoiler=Pre-EOC]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsYJn3UHNUA The EOC one even looks less intensive despite being sped up at least 2-3x.
  13. "But it certainly doesn't hurt to try and improve it." "Unless you fail to do so, in which case it hurts a lot." I wasn't speaking specifically of RuneScape. Besides, it doesn't matter if you fail and get hurt, since that does not prevent you from getting back up. In business, it can very well prevent you from getting back up.
  14. Given the main difficulty involved with mining *was* dropping, I beg to disagree.
  15. To see that it had been posted, you a) visited the site or b) got told about it by someone. The latter implies you still care somewhat about your reputation, even though you haven't exactly helped yourself. Well, this feels like a lynch mob. Use your own eyes and mind.
  16. Tbh I think the best way to see this, is Suomi and RS broke up, ended a 10-year relationship. Suomi's heart-broken and bitter, and wants to lash out to deal with the pain. RS has moved on. Not meant in any derogatory way, and not at all suggesting I can't empathise.
  17. Jeez you really are oblivious. The EoC update only hugely affects one area of the game - combat. Aside from that, it merely touches upon other skills (such as being able to drop mine). How on earth, can you view this as a bad thing. EoC is less afkable: HELLO ABILITIES, APPARENTLY THESE HAVE TO BE MANUALLY USED, UNLIKE RS BEFORE WHEN IT WAS "CLICK *wait* CLICK". NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION. Put in caps for emphasis, but I'm not sure how you think this has made the game worse. It's become far more engaging. Those who taut it as a "spam fest" simply haven't taken the time to work out which abilities work well together, i.e kick & slaughter. They haven't given it the proper chance it deserved. You have this view, that had Jagex not implemented EoC then they would have thousands more players. So I ask, why would thousands of players stay on a game when they sit and wait for things to happen, rather than actually play? As for SoF & SGS, I don't agree with the fact that SoF can be used to practically buy exp, but SGS is good for the game in the long run. Whilst I am not a fan of most of the cosmetic items, the income it generates allows for Jagex as a company to improve the game. I suspect that without SGS and SoF they would not be able to run 07scape alongside the current game, as this would obviously require the purchase of servers. They need to divert funds to support 07scape, so where do you suggest they get this from? Their pot of gold over the rainbow? Also, please point out where Jagex have tried to force players to buy spins? They're not a malevolent overlord, trying to brainwash their customers into buying spins. They said they would tone down the SoF promotions so they have. Of course they are going to advertise SoF, why the hell wouldn't they? That's like Apple just releasing a product without telling anyone. The reason that companies make money is because of advertising and enticement. You are unbelievably naive (or plain stupid) to think that Jagex wouldn't do this. Stop attempting to speak for the community as a whole, not everyone agrees with your idea that everyone is disappointed with the game and is moving on, feeling let down by Jagex. You are attempting to present your opinion as fact. I would take a stab at suggesting that most of the TIF community is happier with RS now than before. Collectively acknowledging the issues, (read Q's blog or the like to find these), but they still enjoy the game. Outside of TipIt, if you took the time to look around you will still see plenty of completionists STILL playing the game, whether they're going for 200m's or just enjoying PVM, the game is far from dead. The community has changed, in both sides of the game. The 07 community will never come back - people have changed their own personalities since that time, fashions and internet fads around now were not around then, and of course they have become present in the game. The game has changed, like every game does. Whether it is the change from Call of Duty 1 to Call of Duty 7, where the original World War games have become set not too far in the future, games need to adapt to keep their revenue and fan base. Why on earth should Jagex be any different, and nor should they cater to the needs of the #1 ranked exp player. You used to have a lot of respect in the RS community, but you blew it by showing your true colours once you reached (and even before) 5 bill exp. tl;dr Stop being a stubborn fool and hating on Jagex, when realistically you are wrong, whether you like it or not. He's not the only one presenting opinion as fact... There is a difference between COD games & RS. I don't have to move on with COD, I can just go stick the disk in, and play COD 1. Not saying that should have any bearing on Jagex's actions, just that it's a flawed analogy.

  19. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it an interesting problem. I didn't it to be possible for every level after the first, and I think that's just by chance of the numbers, and not actually a guarantee. Using the original font: Not possible on level 20, uses 23 logs, and only 9 available. Not possible on level 21, uses 19 logs, and only 10 available. 20. Level 6-7 is a total of 138 XP. That allows you to use 4 logs. So nope, not 7. My guess would be high teens or low 20s. As a side question, once you can do it once, can you do it for every level after that until 99? Srs bsns here. Edit: Right, the importance of this question overwhelmed me too much so I found out. [spoiler=Spoiler for size] Using this font: It first becomes possible at level 26. Where it uses 23 logs to type it out, out of a possible 23 logs for the level. After level 26, it is possible to do this for all further levels. Now using this minimalistic font: We save 3 logs on 1, and 2 logs on both 6 and 9. It still only becomes possible at level 26, using 21 logs to type out. [spoiler=further spoiler] <?php function getXpDifference($level) { $answer = $level / 4; $answer += 75 * pow(2, $level/7); return ceil($answer); } $numbers = array(); $numbers['0'] = 12; $numbers['1'] = 5; $numbers['2'] = 11; $numbers['3'] = 11; $numbers['4'] = 9; $numbers['5'] = 11; $numbers['6'] = 10; $numbers['7'] = 7; $numbers['8'] = 13; $numbers['9'] = 10; $level = 1; for($i = 0; $i< 60; $i++) { $xp = getXpDifference($level); $level++; $logs = ceil($xp/40); $letters = str_split($level); $used = 0; foreach($letters as $letter) { $used += $numbers[$letter]; } if($used > $logs) { echo 'Not possible on level ', $level, ', uses ', $used, ' logs, and only ', $logs, ' available.<br />'; } else { echo 'It\'s possible on level ', $level, '! 21. Using the lowest logs, what would the be lowest level you could spell out like that, without getting the level too early.. Assuming fires only from training that level.
  22. More on the subject of 99 distribution.. Blue line is just the least numerous 99 (in EOC) to give the others some perspective. And Muggi, strength is the most common 99 in EOC as it has been for a while.
  23. List of the amont of 99s in the various skills. Quite interesting.
