Obama Eyeing Internet ID for Americans
No, I don't want you all knowing where I live and what my real name is. You said I could keep my healthcare plan too, and that's not going to happen/isn't happening, so why would I trust anything else you say about anonymity? This is wrong and hopefully people will understand why. There's no reason for it, and if you really want to, you can already pretty much do it. Having a government-run (government being the key word) system is not ever a good thing.

Three pairs of high-top Converse. A pair of Nike 'sportswear' skate shoes, they were on sale at the Nike store because they're guys shoes and they're purple. I have a nice pair of Nike slide sandals, blue, that I got on clearance for $12.

Schoolday diet help
Your diet seems fine, the only thing I can think of is watch your portion sizes, or switch to foods that give you bigger portion sizes with less cal/carbs/fat. I would suggest seeing if you can get Cheerios or Chex, as both cereals are pretty decent tasting and a little better than sugary cereals (depending on which sugary cereal you're eating). If you're not a big fan, you could always try putting cut up strawberries or bananas in your cereal. Also see if they can get turkey or chicken for lunchmeat rather than bologna. If they get pizza, to cut fat/carbs, you can always take off the pepperoni/sausage or get veggie/cheese. Fast food is perfectly okay in moderation; you might want to take a look at McDonald's' [or whatever place they get frequently] nutritional info (probably on their website, or you can go into the restaurant and ask for a brochure) and pick something that is 'healthy' and see if they can order you that when they get fast food. I don't recall the best-for-you-stuff, but not eating fries easily cuts like 40g carbs and a fair amount of fat (dunno how much) for a small-med fry. I also find that you don't have to get a lot to be full; I can get a McDouble and some chicken nuggets and be fine for the rest of the day... So watch and see if you're actually hungry before you eat something just because it's there. You don't drink pop/juice, which is good; do you drink sports drinks or any of that? If you do, look at the nutritional info and check that they're not just saying it's good for you; often (like the Vitamin Water 10) they have a lot of carbs for just being 'water'. Maybe for dinner, if you're not willing to learn to cook (I don't blame you) make up some kind of sandwiches... I find toasting bread, then putting meat and cheese on it and microwaving it for like 30 secs makes a sort of panini thingy that's pretty good. You could eat cereal as a snack/dinner as well if you really wanted to.

Which CD?
I will either be buying this myself or asking for it for my birthday so: I want either Showbiz by Muse (only album of theirs I don't have yet) or a Daft Punk album. I have it narrowed down to Homework or Discovery. My favorite Daft Punk song is Harder Better Faster Stronger if that makes a difference; I don't own anything by Daft Punk yet. OR is there some absolutely awesome thing I need that's similar to Muse or Daft Punk? Also, do you know of any stores that carry Daft Punk CDs? I looked at fye today and they've got a bunch of junk but I couldn't find Daft Punk there...

Tip.It Times - 2nd January 2011
First one: Jagex is afraid people aren't happy/won't like Wildy and free trade, so they're chucking in extras to make them not as mad. Or of course it's getting as many pvp players back as possible. Second one: I remember trying to figure out where on earth to get cadava berries for the quest, then trying to find the apothecary; it's a shame they took it out. And of course... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfGpVcdqeS0

Today...
We can do a transfer. I dont know why, but all day I just feel thirsty. Like, water, coke etc I just keep drinking. I know its a very hot day here but is it also possible I could be a diabetic? I read your thread in Sports and Fitness, too... It's unlikely, but here are the other signs you should watch for, and if you think you have more than just drinking a lot, I'd see a doctor to be safe: Drinking lots of fluids/urinating frequently Extreme hunger Fatigue/weakness Headache/general feeling like crap (like you have the flu) Acetone smelling breath EDIT: But don't drink Coke either way, it won't help... Water is better in general.

What did you get for Christmas?
Finally had Christmas with the other side of my family last night; got a $25 Target gift card, thinking of buying some shoes, and a $15 Barnes and Noble gift card, gonna go buy a D&D book. Also got a lantern, Lego Minifig, a bookmark, and a jar of really sweet orange marmalade... Had some this morning, it's too sweet for my tastes. Might try mixing it with cream cheese or something.

Game suggestions for Wii
Mario Kart Wii has good multiplayer, the New Super Mario Bros. is really fun too. I haven't played Brawl, but it has to be epic (have Melee). Guitar Hero is also good and has decent multiplayer; I'd go with 5 for the Party Mode, but you'd need guitars and drums and a mic.

Linux
Not connected to the internet, can't because I don't have an ethernet port... And I can't figure out what's up with this random laptop, because it has a 3com NIC in it.

Sansa Clip 4Gb They've got the Clip+ now but this one is still great. For $50 (when I bought it, they're $30 now). This takes a beating and keeps going, I've had mine for about 2 years now and no complaints; stock earphones fail though.

Linux
I got SLiTaz Linux, the low RAM version, and it works fine on the laptop. I'm just not sure what to do with it now since I've got linux on it; I dunno how to put GIMP or any extra stuff on it... :P

Tip.It Times - 26th December 2010
Even though I voted in the first one [i actually put my name in], I voted no on the actual one. This poses an interesting conundrum, and I'm not happy about it. Awesome articles though. Great ending to the fiction, what's next?

Linux
So I've been looking at DSL mainly because it was the first thing mentioned, and I'm wondering about a guide for general Linux, because I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm going to get Linux for Dummies from the library, so hopefully that'll help. Basically a Complete Idiot's Guide to Linux, because I know nothing about it besides it's a free open source OS? Edit: But live booting [or whatever] DSL from a CD looks pretty easy, I think I'll try that for the moment because it ought to work fine on that laptop.

What did you get for Christmas?
In addition to my own presents (in my first post on the thread), we got Despicable Me and Toy Story 3 on DVD, plus 'the best of' Angry Beavers Season 1. My dad gave my mom cabinets and a light fixture... :-| Plus I'm likely to get another $20 from grandparents and a gift card of some sort next week.

Linux
I'm wondering about the feasibility of putting Linux on a 14ish year old laptop (same one from this topic). It currently has Windows 98 first edition on it, and my options are 98SE or Linux, I think. I've gotten the info off it now for sure, so I can do pretty much whatever with it. My concerns: I have a 6 Gb hard drive, stated memory (on the HD itself). I think the actual is more like 5.45 Gb or summat. I have 128 Mb of RAM and that is it. It's got an IR port (Xircom) and some random 3Com Network card in it. Is it possible to put Linux on such a laptop? If so, what version do you recommend? This is mainly an exercise in doing it, so the computer's not going to get a lot of use, [due to its unchangable specs] possibly low end Internet and word processing. Should I be concerned about drivers for the network card and IR port, or for anything else standard on the laptop (floppy, CD, screen, mouse/keyboard). I am fairly certain I have enough HD space for it, but how much space does Linux take up? If anybody has some general info/guides/tuts on Linux, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've never done anything with it before. [For kicks and giggles: Do you think I could run OpenOffice, GIMP, or Firefox on this? :P]

Can't make a guest Direct Cable Connection in XP
When I get to the advanced connection selection screen, the 'direct connection to computer' option is always grayed out, I don't know why. My only available option is 'Allow incoming connections' which doesn't work. Going to try that program and see if it works. Otherwise: any suggestions on forcing a computer with one serial port (with BIOS options Auto, COM1, and COM3) to become COM2? I got LapLink to work in DOS but it needs to open COM2, which the computer doesn't have. I've tried adding a COM port in the BIOS but it was COM3 by default and had some issues...

Today...
During the eclipse, I was probably awake, as I haven't been able to sleep because I am all stuffed up. But it was cloudy anyway. And it's still not snowing. I really should do something useful today, but I haven't. I watched Ponyo, it was entertaining, although I like Kiki's Delivery Service more. Might wrap some presents if we get proper boxes for them. Generic Mucinex does work, except it only lasts 4 hours = me waking up at 1 or 2 in the morning, not being able to breathe. :wall:

Editorial Panel Recruitment Drive
:P Even though I'm American, I'd be liable to change it to British English... I think it sounds better/looks cooler most of the time. Except the 'ou' thing, that doesn't make sense to me.

Can't make a guest Direct Cable Connection in XP
I have reached a problem. The Laptop, as far as I know, does not have an Ethernet adapter. It doesn't have a slot for the cable, so I can't go the easy way and simply put both comps on the same network, and I can't just stick a network card in it, even if I had one. I do have a serial cable and a parallel cable; I have 'LapLink V' which will not even install on Win98 (98 is too new for it... :P) and thusly I need to network somehow with a parallel or a serial cable. Are there any free programs that enable me to do so between Win98 and WinXP? In regards to LapLink: Their website says the V version I have is DOS and runs under 95/98 but won't install. DOS Command Prompt under XP is not applicable to DOS, so the installer won't work there either. I am going to attempt to copy the files to a directory on both machines and run in MSDOS mode to see what happens. My simpler question of a free app that works on 98 and XP still stands. LapLink's instructions on how to get around this problem give me 404 errors so the page doesn't exist on their end. Or am I setting up the network the wrong way? I have both comps in MSGROUP and have [both] a parallel cable and a serial cable hooked up. I used the wizard in XP to set it up, it finds MSGROUP but doesn't find LAPTP, the other comp. I don't remember the path to get it to go directly there, either; I tried msgroup\\laptp and that didn't work, nor did \\laptp. I tried finding both computers on either (with 'Find Computers') and failed, so I guess I haven't got the right setup, because I'm pretty sure I've got the right cables. Also editing first page to reflect this development.
