  4. Mmkay. So at school, in the computer repair class, I have a Compaq DeskPro En something. Purchased by the school with Win98 some time ago. Anyway, these are the computers we're currently working on in Computer Repair. My question is, my comp is so freaking slow, what can I do (besides put more RAM in it) to make it faster? Currently it has WinXP, SP3 and up to date with updates. It has AVG 2011 Free (which is eating my RAM, I know) and CCleaner/Defragger, Firefox 3.6, and Gimp 2.6. I've run CCleaner at least three times, plus the registry fixer and cleaned that up as best I can. I am going to defrag it when I get the chance; it's got a 20GB HD and is only using like 4Gb of it, but is 33% fragmented according to Defragger. Do you have any more suggestions to make it run faster (besides the obvious that I've tried already? or getting rid of AVG?) Also, is there a free AV more effective (and possibly less taxing) than AVG atm?
  5. I do like half of these things... Live in the US, learn about physics, draw random things, admire steampunk, know how to make a paper cube... Am very not-Earthy like.
  6. Loved the first article, that would be really cool if you actually could help out Grim as a random event. Second one wasn't anything really new.
  7. Well, take it again. If it keeps on saying you're an ISTJ, you may just not be as aware of yourself as you thought. Which would make sense. lol'd I did take it again, just before I posted it. I believe I've taken this particular test 3 times, the first I got INTJ, the second two I've gotten ISTJ. All the other tests I've taken have categorized me as INTJ, even recently.
  8. Since Earthy posted his, I'll post mine from mypersonality whatever. It's wrong, I feel that I am definitely more INTJ than ISTJ.

  13. Wondering if Foodfight's fictional has been finished or is off because of the Hallowe'en-themed fictional? Either way, good fiction, interesting thought by Rach about players needing to be smart, and [even though I'm not P2P] I found wondering about 'GrandMaster' quests to be something to think about. Good stuff.
  14. I'm still working on the (I think it's the third) installment picture, the one in the hall. I should have it done and PM'd to you by next week sometime.
  15. Your musical compatibility with jaseFX is Very Low Music you have in common includes Basshunter, Owl City, blink-182, Rihanna and Kanye West. Don't believe I have ever listened to Kanye West, and I only listen to one Rihanna song.

Started 1984 today, so far I'm very happy with it. Have to memorize 'To be, or not to be,' for AP Lit... I wanted the one from act 4.
  17. Alright so it's possible, just really not practical. So if I can find a tiny GPU for a PCI x16 Express, would I be okay even if it doesn't plug into any random things on the motherboard or wherever?
  18. Completely forgot about Bartameus. Love those, can't spell the name though. Also I liked the Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, awesome victorian-ish books with modern syntax.
  19. Sorry, I did really hate the content, specifically because he drew out the second half of the book, which I assumed was because he believed he had too much content to cram into one more book, whereas I believe it was the opposite, he didn't have enough content and wanted more money for more books. My personal favorite of that trilogy is Eldest though. I feel he got everything right there. LOTR>HP if only because of Legolas.
  20. The fifth one's So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, right? I didn't think it was that depressing, just really random with that Wonko the Sane guy.
  21. In my very honest opinion, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is quite possibly one of the best and most bizarre 'trilogies' ever written. Have you read the whole series or just one of the books, and did you enjoy it? My favorite bits are the inane statements by pretty much everybody. Even if you can't stand British humor, you'll enjoy it. My paperback copy of the whole series is pretty beat up because I've read the whole thing through three or four times (only other books I've done that on are Harry Potter). So you should read it. And not watch the movie, it's very disappointing.

So for AP Lit we have to read novels outside of class and write a one page analysis on each one. My first one was 'The Scarlet Letter' which was an okay book. The second one, 'Sense and Sensibility', I absolutely hated and actually have not finished even though the paper's due on Friday (thank goodness for Sparknotes). Anyway, I'm trying to decide on the next one. It preferably has to be short or a quick read, which is why I'm looking at plays mostly. My list consists of King Lear, Much Ado about Nothing, Twelfth Night, As You Like it, or Invisible Man by Ralph Emerson. I'm leaning towards Twelfth Night. And I've had craploads of Calc homework, plus my teacher can't teach the Chain Rule or Implicit Differentiation. So I am totally lost in that class now. But all of us are, so hopefully that will be fixed soon. And on top of it all, I've got to design a motor, even though we're not really sure what kind of motor we're building. See, a DC brushless motor is the most efficient, but requires a controller and we're having some guys help us with it and we're not really sure what they're doing, so my engineering teacher had us design a brushed DC motor. And so getting the brushes on the magnet assembly to contact the brushes on the stationary coils is what I'm having an issue with at the moment. I'm pretty sure we'll figure it our tomorrow though, simply because it will make more sense when my brain is not fried. Now I believe I will check if anyone's replied to my T&C post and then take a shower and maybe watch some TV or go to bed.
  23. Same, I am very mad at Paolini about Brisingr. When is the 'I had too much material for just a third book' fourth book due out anyway?
  24. So as you may or may not know, the graphics card in our laptop failed maybe four months ago, due to overheating because the GPU is not designed for laptops. We bought a replacement computer, but I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the card anyway? The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300 with Windows XP Professional. The failed graphics card is some model of NVidia GPU: NVIDIA Data bus PCI-Express x16 Video controller G Force Go 6800 Ultra Video memory 256 MB LCD interface LVDS TV support NTSC or PAL in S-video and composite modes Specs from the owner's manual at Dell: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/en/om/om_en.pdf Is it possible or probable to replace the GPU, since it's not integrated but has no instructions on how to replace it in the owner's manual? [Especially since this thing is now just taking up space and not really usable ie risk of breaking it more is not really an issue] Would this require taking the entire thing apart or any special tools? And what kind of GPU can I get to replace the one that overheated?

Loved them, read Ender's Game sometime last year and got into the Hegemony... Can't remember the rest of them, I read all of them except possibly one. Tbh I think Bean's storyline is better when you get farther into the series; in the first books you can't learn enough about him to like his story.
