  1. YUp! in fact...I used to have some drawing lessons on the old scape..i will see if I can dig them up or retype them. But the key is, as mrx said, do, redo, redo again. The biggest thing you can do to improve drawing is to improve your OBSERVATION. Learn to see the details.
  2. Good solid look to it, but I have to agree, that thing looks like a hummingbird all the way. The slope from tail to thin beek is just too strong of a hummingbird image.
  3. Some aren't bad...but yah...the bad ones are REALLY bad. Now get that phrase in your sig!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. We are still hoping to get a seperate board for art pieces, but I just want to congratulate you all on the increase in real art we have been seeing here. We have people doing The daily sketches http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=172535 Some putting random sketches http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=179893 a whole new group doing larger art pieces http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=177350 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=171758 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=182679 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=181962 (Azzy has been at it for a bit, but thought this needed some plugging!) Fun threads like create your own cartoon character http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=180614 Some familiar faces coming back http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=183333 (and witty, though he isn't posting much finished work) Works IN Progress, etc.,like this one http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=180625 Ryan's sig rate thread with actual non-number feedback. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=184 ... sc&start=0 Please continue to make this happen. Sure it takes time, and we are starting slowly, but every great thread means one less space for a mediocre one! Every real work of art is one less space for a first time pixel sig! We want more helpful critiques, less flaming, more real art and more learning on the part of our members. Since you all like to advertise your own work, and I do too, I won't make a sig for this. But lets stick the phrase: Join the media board revolution! in in the text portion of our signature to get the momentum rolling....here is the code with a link back to here: Join the MEDIA BOARD REVOLUTION!!!!!
  5. I don't see anyone paying millions for DaVinci's old pixels... just stick to brushing! That is not overly brushed anyway. I like this one! But I have to agree, the flashing thing is annoying. IN fact, the close up is annoying. Just get rid of it and leave the cool buidling. Othewise, much better work this time. You fixed the blurriness for the most part.
  6. hehe sorry, this one missed out! First unveiled on your thread! well...of course, in sig form I mean. (still available!)
  7. Please rate these and my current one. Thanks. (this reminds me of a few other standard sig rate threads of yonder years....dromars rather harsh one leaps to mind. ) (still available) some oldies just for fun....

I think he means those superhuman paint anything perfectly from their mind while fixing breakfast types you see on the DA daily deviations standby list. Fortunately they don't waste their time giving us cc here :) But I agree, folks were a little tough on him.

Not bad. the border is the big thing that leaps out , as Jeppoz mentioned. Also, the hills see a little odd..One really pointy, one rolling, and one...er..truncated? Might make more of a consistency there as usually in the same region there is not that steep of a change. The penguins are pretty good.
  10. sure can! sorry, had a cold. But you can post other stuff anyway. Besides....I think mine was one of two mammals posted.
  11. yeah but a 600 x 500 picture is not going to print at anything. So just putting samples of your work makes it easier for OTHERS to buy it. However...he has enough demand for his paintings from traditional means, so I suppose he doesn't need the net. Still, his stuff is awesome. he did one of his two cats...sitting with this wild multi colored patterned cloth...and on a WICKER chair....in watercolor. Talk about hours on hours. He said even he didn't realize how long that one would take. Days on end. It was fantastic. Of course, it didn't sell for as much as an acryilic watercolor blend of these cool looking leapords or something, but from a technical standpoint it was great.
  12. xman--yeah most of the artists I talk to who do water color find it to be their more difficult medium--and their most rewarding often. The guy I took one semester from, who was also my wife's art teacher, does some incredibly detailed watercolors. Not the old washy, blurry stuff you normally think of, but wonderful translucent, eyepopping scenes with tiny birds, great terrain elements etc. He has what I can only assume will soon be a gallery web site...but is not yet functional... http://www.jimmcclelland.com/ I wish he would get his stuff on the internet. Some of his paintings sell for well over 2 grand. Anyway, I am not that great at watercolor but my wife has done a fair amount of it. In fact we were talking about getting the watercolrs out tonight! zdragonblader- the paw was not showing in the reference, and while I could add one, I am afraid I would probably mess it up.
  13. the eye is black, just a bit of highlights picking up the snow. Maybe too much though. As for a smirk..hm...will think on that one.

Agreed yours are now different. And I don't dispute your main point. I just want him to have time to "learn the error of his ways" without being so bashed that he gives up. If he has the talent to eyeball draw those in that fasion, then he has the talent to draw his own. He just needs the encouragement to do so. But if people flame him mercilessly, he won't get that encouragement. We have few enough people who can actually draw around here without running off the ones we do have.
  15. Very nice work. The only critique I would have is of the now expected red lettering. It is a bit hard to read in this color scheme. Otherwise the details are great.

I don't know the guy, but has he been here long? You all certainly have learned to enforce the culture of non ripping (and that is a good thing), but perhaps he simply didn't know. So just in case I will spell it out for all wondering There are free for use images in stock galleries that you may freely use in sigs. Other sources of images (google image search, clipart, video game sites, etc.) are not legal to take from, as the images are copyrighted. Now before anyone asks, yes ALL of them are copyrighted by default under law. It doesn't matter if they have a copyright symbol. They are intellectual property and to use them you have to gain written permission from the creator. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
  17. (shameless plug forthcoming) Hey at least he tried...or didn't as he now claims. But I think he actually did. Anyway, why not head over to our daily sketch thread and try drawing a few things. Your work is at least better than stick figures. Maybe there is potential there!

Yes i understand that i should have my own style for you guys to like it. But i dont know what you meen by flaming all i was doing was saying the truth that i did not trace. Indeed i copied runescapes style and used reference pictures but didnt trace and really i never flamed. this is quite true. He was simply defending himself. He is still better than 2/3's of the pixel artists here (granted, in most cases that isn't saying much). He admitted following the reference, which is no crime. And Ran, you too were criticized for OVERUSING the same cartoony style all the time. I don't mind, it is your style. I thought they looked nice, and you seemed to sell a lot of sigs. But you should know how it feels to be criticized over style. No one likes to be beaten into the ground over it. Teenageloser, you don't need keiphus to make breakthrough realizations such as...art can suck. I think we all know art can suck. What I think you mean is you learned from Keiphus that you can TELL people that THEIR art sucks. Yes, of course, you can. But you might think over how you do it so that you encourage rather than crush them. Just lay off the guy. He got the message. Now as for pixel sigs being harder than brushed sigs. That all depends on the brushed sig. Both have their strengths. Brushed sigs have their strength is the flexibility of their shading. You can make photorealistic brushed sigs (er why would you bother, but you can), with a compelling depth and realism. Pixel sigs are more detailed, cramming for info into a smaller space, since complex shading and nuance are not the focus. Great pixel sigs and great brushed sigs both take time and portray something convincingly. I prefer brushed ones because I like a more convincing, less cartoony image. Not to mention, once you learn how to paint, you can do larger works, which are more satisfying to me. And the I can always reduce them to sigs. The only frustration I have with brushed sigs is that you cannot fit in as many elements, since each one takes more space to portray with its more subtle, nuanced shading. Pixel sigs are fabulous for being able to portray whole scenes in a small space. Which is why in general, i don't really make sigs my focus anymore. I just paint.
  19. the idea is to get better, so sure :) If you practice by doing each day's topic, it is unlikely that you will fail to get better.
  20. human...expression? not sure I follow..
  21. A couple of old mammal sketches I did a couple of years ago. I just found them :) I would like to paint the otter one if I can just fine the reference now! The shading was dark in the body, but don't remember the rest.
  22. yeah I have to find that link to that photo realistic color pencil guy. He had some limited tutorials, but some awesome work. I don't know if she is going to post it or not, but the primary difference was that she had to go back in and put a few more white highlights. The only way to get them in pencil is of course to leave whithe space, which she did, but there were some others she wanted to enhance.
  23. One element that I keep hearing over and over isthe nose is too big..that might explain the body issue too...same problem expressed a different way. Fixed it.
  24. I often have this problem myself, so I will point it out for ya...you are making your brushes too soft. It makes it fuzzy. Try working at higher resolutions then reducing, and use a slightly harder brush. Eventually you get used to it. Otherwise the actual drawing is pretty good! A very solid traditional dragon...almost godzillaesque.... Glad you are hanging around these parts now. It will be so much more amiable than our clan experience!
  25. I am liking the general feel on this one. It is not quite as developed as the other yet,. So how is the Harley doing? And is it a techincal issue that is keeping you from checking? Anartist/sim might be returning to the boards. But overall, just been sig shops as far as the eye can see .....
