The Inauguration of Barrack Obama: So Annoying
Show me your degree in History and a schedule of your graduate classes before you make that bold of a statement. It's amazing how different your view of history changes when you actually study it instead of getting it off of the History Channel. The secession movement began as far back as the 1820's. Lincoln was simply the last straw for one state. Federal actions towards the secession motivated the rest of the Southern states. Magekllr, while he did amazing things under extraordinary circumstances, the same can be said for several presidents such as FDR and even *brace for impact* George W. Bush. He was a good President in that he provided the things that the Office is supposed to and he did it well. My only beef with Lincoln is his "legacy of abolition" that has been overplayed and overhyped by nationalistic intelligentsia over the past 150 years. His entire life has been rewritten to provide the trappings of abolitionism where it simply did not exist in his own lifetime. Like Washington and the cherry tree. So my own problem is not with Lincoln, per say, but the way "common history" has treated him. I also think it's ironic that the media dares call Pres-Elect Obama the manifestation of Lincoln's dream, because after reading Lincoln's diary it is fairly certain that he would not have supported a black president. I hope you have a chance to read that particular tome. His attitude toward blacks are dripping with "white man's burden" elements. But yeah, back on topic. Excited for the inauguration. I just hope the Pres-elect focuses on what he's going to do rather than spend an hour on the significance of his election.

How to decide who to marry
That's the very first thing I noticed. Their grammar is like, college educated. Obviously written for a newspaper or some editorial by an adult.

The Inauguration of Barrack Obama: So Annoying
The only article that really had me livid was that he's going to be sworn in on Lincoln's Bible. I would have no problem with any other Bible. Personally, I'd recommend Martin Luther King, Jr's Bible. But not Lincoln's. Lincoln did jack crap for freedom or tolerance. He actually suspended the freedom of thousands of Americans (not Confederates, UNION Americans) and the Emancipation Proclamation freed a grand total of zero slaves. He was aware of and allowed African freedmen to be impressed into military service by their so-called "liberators" where they would have to dig trenches and latrines with no pay (ie slavery?).

The Gaza Strip
Only fair. I seem to recall in Lebanon the UN was openly broadcasting Israeli troop movements on open air. *not being serious, but Israel is not the only group in the world to make mistakes*

Muslim Radicalism - Good or Bad? (Justified or Not)

Funniest teachers and subs
Don't worry. 85% of this thread (at least) is pure and utter bullcrap. I think in my entire career I've had one student insult me ever and they regretted it. Don't want to sound Snobbish or Elitist but by any chance you teach in a private school? When I compare what happens in my school (private) with 2 schools (public) that my friends go to there's quite a difference in behavior. No, my teaching experience came from an inner city public high school.

"Mean" Subs dont have bad things happen as much. Mean teachers don't, either. Coaches have less. Why quit? If a student is causing problems you can't solve, you have them removed. Simple. Teaching is a very fun and rewarding job. As "mean" as I was, I had a fan club among the students who were sick of the disruptive behavior.

Thank you for adding commentary. That's all you need to do is provide your own input in the original post, otherwise it's just a link to a news story I would read on google homepage.

The Tooth Incident!
OT is turning more and more into a clique everyday that's bent on "lolz." It's happening, we can't stop it. I agree that the thread has little to no merit. If an ordinary user made this topic it would be reported and shut down immediately.

Is God real post your thoughts!
The best reason not to. There's no need to trash religion or waste your time whining about it when you can just simply ignore it. It's our choice to follow religion, it's your choice not to. That's what it boils down to and that's where it should stop, really.

That's nothing. I used to kick the desks so they fall out of the chair which was amusing, but now I have infinitely more fun with the overhead projector squirt bottle. I rigged it up to shoot across the classroom.

America - Home of the Free?
The economy has peaks and troughs all the time. This time people just got scared and pulled all their money from the bank. The banks gave out loans while everything was fine, and then when people withdrew they had much less money and pulled the stocks. We can't nor shouldn't expect the government to bail us out every time; it will eventually recover. And again, what do those have to do with policing other countries? We have specialized branches that carry our their own duties. Cutting funding isn't all to great of idea, especially when something more drastic comes around. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but did the government not come out and say that the housing market would suffer, as well as the stock market? This also leads to the point where America is showing continuous traits of communism. The government can only do so much.[/hide] They have everything to do with policing other countries. And giving them aid. War is always going to cost money and the less wars we have the better. Not because of "peace", but of saving money that's not even technically ours thanks to the debt we have. While the economic situation today is bad but cannot be instantly fixed, I was referring more to the whole thing about losing value of the dollar. The euro has more worth than us...I'm sorry to say this, but screw you Europe and let us have the top economy again! We were so powerful with all the exports coming from us, then now it comes from China? When did it go wrong? We didn't necessarily go wrong anywhere, as no country is free from economic turmoil. We've been in debt since Andrew Jackson took office. And the last president in office that balanced the budget was Bill Clinton, because he raised taxes (and it was during the technological boom, so he could afford to). Generally speaking though, our spending isn't that bad on a ratio of import:exports, even if we are borrowing some of it. The value of a dollar will eventually go back up, most countries have experienced this problem multiple times. Though I can't deny that the war is a bank-breaker. Very true. And the shifting of products to Chinese markets is hardly the government's fault. Businesses themselves are hemorrhaging money due to bad spending (or private jets, whatever) and therefore have to cut costs. In this case, by exporting work to China. This not only is bad for American workers who no longer have jobs in the US, but the US economy does not get tax dollars off this work.

Most people are going to be aware if you get smacked in the face with a textbook, they are heavy. You should be ashamed for throwing things at someone in the first place.

Ok, of all the bullcrap in this thread I declare this the biggest tall tale.

 I agree...some of the crap teachers put up with...then again, whoever is crazy enough to be a teacher had to know what they were going into... We weren't that bad to subs when I went to high school. But for some reason kids are getting the crazy notion that they are "adults" and "mature" and can act however the hell they want, despite the fact that they are not mentally developed enough to even understand what those terms truly mean. Which is why I am attending grad school, so I can teach at the college level. I might also do some Department of Defense teaching (military kids are frigging angels).

It's a stressful job. Most students (at least the younger ones) refuse to treat you with any respect because you are only there for the day. So it's necessary to be a jerk. Subs were treated nicely when I was teaching/coaching as God help them if I came back to a bad report from a sub. Calisthenics all around!

Life is short, my friends.
I for one have enjoyed life. A few sticky moments but hardly anything to call dark or dreary. Certainly no need to use narcotics or alcohol to make myself feel better.

If you could make one thing illegal...
Remember what Lionheart said about that? I will gladly lead the armed forces brigades to hunt them all down and slaughter them before they can find another website to screw with. The location of every /b/tard will be matched by posting an attractive woman in a zip file containing CIA tracking scripts on their little funzone, and then silencing them with extreme prejudice. The site itself will be burned to the ground and then sprayed with Composition Orange to ensure that nothing else grows.

If you could make one thing illegal...
You have never heard of terrorists? The higher grade ones steal high-grade military products from smaller and corrupt nations like candy, it would be easy for them to get a nuke if they really needed one. While I hate nukes, I would rather they be legal. They create a balance of power that if one nation has one, nobody else will use theirs. That's what keeps us safe. First off, did you know that developed countries struggle to obtain nuclear technology? How do you think a terrorist group could possibly obtain such technology and still consider them "idiots". Terrorist and idiot are not synonyms, nor should the obtainment of nuclear technology ever be described as easy. I think he was referring to "idiot" in the sense of "jerk" or someone who will use a technology for an impractical purpose, hence being "dumb." He was not referring to them having a lack of intelligence.
