  1. And that's why hook titles are frowned upon here.
  2. This opinion brought to you by a pretentious 14 year old! I don't care if you aren't one, that's how it came out. As I stated in the other thread, Joe Biden is against Net Neutrality and believes that videogames in general should be banned because they are a negative influence on youth. You might have heard this before everyone decided to blow out on Palin for being a Republican Alaskan woman.
  3. ... We don't own Puerto Rico, PR is actually a part of the United States. They can participate in elections, nominate Presidents, serve in and are protected by the military, and live life like any other state. Just no federal taxes. While we are at it, here are some other territories: Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands... And Russia does not "own" China. In fact, they have been constantly on the brink of war for nearly 40 years.

Oh, Obama supports the mudslinging. He just doesn't endorse it. His people make all the crackshots and he gets to stand on the sideline and say "I do not approve of this" for extra ratings.

I hate to burst your bubble, but most towns and cities do this in the United States. State police agencies have large budgets. Townships, towns, and cities do not have the money to spare. I am shocked, however, at the mudslinging in this thread. You guys are just probing the internet like everyone else to bash on the Republicans. It's like a race to see how many skeletons we can find in the closet. I don't see any bashing on Joe Biden who is against net neutrality, videogames, and movies that you guys probably enjoy.
  6. I think it was more of a way to make them easier to understand, but just ended up confusing more people.
  7. Completely agreed, but remember that PG-13 can and most always goes over what our rules would allow for. We might need to ditch the film analogies to get more appropriate. Like videogame ratings. T for Teen is pretty much what our rules would allow for.
  8. Or it could enable speculators to hype certain items for their own benefits. Whether they do it in their own subforum or in general it's still going to happen. This removes it from the public eye a bit.
  9. I'm not suggesting loosening up the rules whatsoever. I'm simply saying that PG-13 is a more appropriate label for the current rules, censor and level of leniency. The forum we have now is not G, even if the Staff choose to label it as such. I think PG would be more appropriate. The stigmata surrounding PG-13 would lead users to believe that they could start posting more controversial things like the "NSFW" fad in the Off Topic forum a few months ago. PG covers the words that mlbfan was posting according to MPAA standards :P. Just remember that the standards for behavior that you might have are not shared with a large part of this community. I think many TIF users have proved that they are not ready for "adult" discussion.
  10. I've noticed that the general forum is filling up with various topics speculating on prices of high end items and economic issues. The fact is that these are being created for any issue and are just getting out of hand. What I am proposing is a subforum in the Marketplace for such debates and discussions that would be a much more appropriate setting. Not like the most amazing or revolutionary suggestion here, but it would clean things up a bit.

Bob, if you are going to post a bad photoshop, at least make sure you didn't give her two completely different necks.

I totally pray you are kidding.

Exactly, Ginger. The only way for true racial equality is empowerment in low-wealth communities and getting those kids to get a better education. Getting out of the welfare trap, teaching kids that they have the same rights as anyone else despite what they believe, and preventing crime and gang activity in those areas will eventually raise black and hispanic populations up to the same level as everyone else. But the problem is that neither the government's approach (let's take care of them and teach them it's alright to do what they want) and the poor outlook in these communities (I'm already stuck here, why strive to succeed) are helping matters.

(You could argue Obama doesn't really have any merit either, nor has he held any executive position, but his election would send a clear signal to other countries USA is still free and anyone can become the president) What message? That anyone with money can become President? Obama is not an average Joe. He may only have one house, but that one house is worth just as much as McCain's. He wears Armani suits and Rolex watches. He has made stupid political discussions. Sounds like just about every other President. Except he's black. If that negates the fact that he's a millionaire, then I have lost hope in Martin Luther King's quest for racial equality. NoMoreDead: Before you copy and paste, learn to read and understand politics. The committee assignments are bullcrap that look good on paper, and those are a handful of votes that mostly came before his Presidential bid. Take a look at Obama's voting record compared to McCain's or Clinton's. They voted in nearly all sessions while Obama missed more than half *during* his campaign. Don't forget his Party which instead of voting on a major bill, took a long vacation and shut down Congress. As for approval ratings, they are a little skewed in his case of being a celebrity on the political scene. Instead you should look at those who don't approve of him. Palin's rating of people who think she is doing a bad job is minimal, nearly 3 percent, with 17 percent having no opinion. Sorry to toot my horn, but I teach civics and hang around with political scientists who vote both ways. I know what I am talking about. One piece of advice to you: Don't take anything you read on the internet for granted or at face value. Shop around and approach something from multiple sources.

And here we have the aforementioned "my candidate is better than yours" thinly veiled debate.
  16. Barihawk replied to mrpez's topic in Off-Topic
I like how everyone is quick to cite Obama's tenure as a US Senator but he HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING worth note, is not a member of any major committee, and has missed more votes than participated. His constituents are very upset that they elected someone who is not representing them. Palin on the other hand has experience in executive government, which is much more demanding and much more work than a Senator. Unlike a Senator she is expected to constantly make decisions that are indeed carried out and must actually work. So please stop arguing a point if you have no idea what you are talking about. Obama is qualified, so is she.
  17. Barihawk replied to mrpez's topic in Off-Topic
She has more experience where it counts, sitting behind the desk making decisions. Senatorial experience is not as great as governatorial experience. As for Alaska, that is a good place to be governor. You make decisions on the environment, trade, international commerce, and energy planning every day. Which is what our nation needs right now. Obama's national experience should barely count, anyways, because he has missed the majority of votes during his tenure and has spent more time campaigning rather than being a Senator. Anyways, politics aside this is just a way to gripe and bicker and name-call each others party affiliations for the heck of it, thinly veiled as real discussion.
  18. I am for stem cell research as long as it is voluntary samples or from stillborn fetus. My problem is that the research seems to be creating a demand for abortions, which I am against.

Are you saying that both of them should get a gold medal instead of a tie-breaker? That's how it used to work, and how it works in every other sport. Two golds, no silver, bronze.
  20. Barihawk replied to mrpez's topic in Off-Topic
It's the first competition for the new judging system, we were expecting bugs. And we found a way to break it. As I said earlier, ties should be rewarded with two medals just like EVERY other Olympic event. Especially in such a subjective sport. This isn't swimming where Omega has sensors that measure to .00001.
  21. What's really sad is that I actually got to see the Duck and Cover videos in school, for real reasons.
  22. China and the US are at an amazing level of cooperation right now. North Korea can't pee outside it's borders without China or South Korea blowing something off.
  23. Yay, let's ignore facts and focus on our own biases and deliberations!
  24. When it's in the news and people are discussion putting guns in a classroom of course we're going to get pissed off. And when it all goes away because it's a STUPID idea, then we'll shut up. We don't forget about it. Just because a certain topic isn't at hand doesn't mean we're not thinking about it. But there are no guns in the classroom, and according to my contacts the Region 24 Union has demanded all teachers to ignore the new policy, with no complaints so far. I talked to the union rep personally on the phone and she said that everyone she's talked to feels the same way. There is no way in hell they will take guns onto school grounds. There is no doubt that some people are over hyping this situation just to toot their own horns. Especially the original poster.
  25. I love how all this amusing and really farcical debate has happened in this thread when none of the teachers in this district in this option program have even joined it.
