tip.it highscores?
Lol, trust me on this, it's been done more times than you believe, but really, it's not the 'size' of the rs site thats the bottleneck at all, normally i use 0.7 secs/username on betting the stats, exploding them and adding them to the database... The real issue here is that with our servers, and our site, we cannot do it... You must remember that Jagex is a company earning money all the time, where Tip.It instead is strugling to make a payment every month, we COUNT on you guys to help out and support us to stay alive, if you don't, we wont... point of this: Jagex has the money for super-servers, we have the money to keep the site running (at least for now), but not enough to actually make a buy a new server only for this (and yes, it would take a new server, since the servers we have already are getting maxed out)

tip.it highscores?
Which is exactly what i said above lol :P And for the record, i hate you people who say "oh, kewl idea! Tip.It should really do this!" instead of actually reading what i post and try to figure out some solutions for the problems i mention, i mean, no matter how much support something gets, it won't be made unless the problems with it is figured out...

tip.it highscores?
Well, I was sure I remembered something like this - however i've scoured there site and my search came to nought. However, I did previously use to be a member of 'The Official Runehq Clan' and I logged my 'Clan friends' account in there, and found they have a Hiscore section. Here's a linky. http://rhqclan.com/forum/index.php?autocom=hiscore :) I knew I saw it somewhere RHQ related. -Gid. That's pretty much the same as runehead.com/clans (site which i admin, serving user lists to almost 800 clans atm), which is do'able cos you have like max 300 people in a clan... however, if you were to have 90k, it would make it a lot harder, and IMO, paying $200/month for a new server where this could be handled would be pretty much overkill for a small feature like this :P I can tell you that the runehq staff has a memberslist hosted on the runehead service as well though, not anything for the entire runehq community anywhere though... http://www.runehead.com/clans/ml.php?clan=RhqStaff - RuneHQ staff

tip.it highscores?
I wasn't aware RuneHQ had this feature, feel free to link me up if you can... I'd very much like to see it... Then you might as well do it manually, and we still don't have any way of 'proving' that the people are who they are... Furthermore, there's people on the boards like Zezima, N0valyfe and other high-level/nigh-attention people who don't wish their Tip.It account names conprimized... And if we don't put them on, we'd have an overflow of "But person x has an account here as well, you should put them on!"... The only way i see this list being made is for someone to make it on RSHSC and then manage it, i do not see it being anything 'official' Tip.It feature, it would require simply too much manpower to keep it updated, and make sure that the people who post are indeed who they say they are...

tip.it highscores?
So you want the server up keep track of 90k usernames? No way my friend... This has been discussed between Albosky and me some time ago, and i can tell you, the 40k usernames there's updated on RSHSCtake more than half of the resources my dedicated server has, and it runs for almost 7 hours just to update those 40k... Having something like that on the Tip.It server would kill not only our server, but also the Jagex server... I am sorry, even though it would be a nice thing to have, it's simply not posible with the massiveness of this site...

Programming. It flat out baffles me.
It's also nice to know a bit of C++ since practically nobody I know outside of the internet knows PHP. They all think it's a drug. If you know a language that many many people know then you have that much of a userbase that can help you out of a tight spot. It really depends what you wish to do wont you say? I mean, for programming websites and web applications, php and perl (even though i personally never use perl) are quite good, but if you wish to make something more like programs and stuff to be used on the clients computer, instead of on the internet, C++, C, vb etc are good.. From what i understood in the first post, with the mentioning of HTML, CSS and JS, this is primarily for the internet, and in that case, php is more likely to be used? I might be wrong though, just just how i see it :D

Sounds wierd indeed :? But prob not the right place to discuss it here anyway :)

needed/wanted: sig rotator
Erhm, first of all, mind getting your sigs under the limit? I just saw a 325x200 or something like that... That'll prob get you closer to getting a deal ;) Edit: and now a 400x130... You should deff look into this before you loose the right to show sigs...

Re-post official stickies by ex-staff members.
Best way to do this would be altering the poster in the actual database, so in stead of poster = 3 (i believe Newpy is #3?), it'd have 23 (which is Sith if my memory serves me right), that would keep them from bumping up as well, which in most cases will be a good idea, wince some of them are not *that* relevant anymore... A bit of a hassle for Albosky, but it shouldn't be *that* hard imo...

Top 10 Most Popular Runescape Forums - UPDATED!
I used the figures at the bottom for those forums that I knew weren't being pruned, but for those forums that were being pruned I tracked them with their IDs for 48 hours and then assumed that there would be a similar amount of posting on the ensuing ten days. But you are right the latter would have been a better option, except it would have required that I sign up to all the forums... and well I got lazy.... Still I'd say whilst those results are probably not perfect they'd be fairly close (within 10%) and they give more of a good overview than anything.Indeed :D Just making sure... and i mean, even though tip.it isn't pruned ('cept for the market boards that is), we still actually delete some posts, most likely not like 100 a day, but it does happen ;)

Top 10 Most Popular Runescape Forums - UPDATED!
Nice findings indeed... I need to ask you though, when counting the posts and members, did you use the stuff at the bottom of the index on the relative forums, or the id which new posts/topics get? IMO the later would be the more percise, since i believe that the numbers at the bottom of the index is also effected by pruning/deletion of users and posts...

agreed adthegreat... http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=460312 has a lot of good information about various languages :)

Programming. It flat out baffles me.
The only reason i see to learn QBasic is to get a feel of how programming works, it's pretty useless in the real world, at least thats from my experience, unless you run win95 or something :D But it's easy to do without QBasic... Also, i don't really see the reason to learn C++ or the like, IMO it's better to just make the language you preferr more perfect, instead of having a smaller knownlegde of like 15 different... Personally, the only languages i'm good enough at to actually use them IRL is the basics (xhtml, css, js) and then PHP + Ajax, and that's simply because i've stopped there, i don't see a reason to get more into my head than those when they work just fine without more additions...

Programming. It flat out baffles me.
I have thought about it, but i'd rather leave it for now... And we already operate 4 public servers and 3 private servers for the Tip.It site and system alone, if we need another one, we'd buy another dedicated or try to do it on one of our current servers...

PHP with out a doubt is what you should learn... That's what i've built all of Tip.It on, it's easy once you get to know it and get to know the way of thinking, and it's productive, almost all dynamic websites are built with PHP (or asp, which i personally see as a php wannabe :P) W3 School, has some great articles, and unless you buy a book (see below), this is a great place to find tutorials for all the basic stuff... PHP.net, the official PHP site on the web, the search feature and explaination of all php functions on there is a big help, heck, i still use it when i forget what function does what and what i need to use the function with. PHP Freaks, one of the sites i found very usefull when i first started, their forum will provide you with all the help you could ever dream of. Personally i learned from a book though, i can recommend PHP and MySQL Web Development, 3rd Edition, PHP in a Nutshell (Published by O'Reilly, which i personally believe is some of the best on the web) or PHP Cookbook. Once you get better, Advanced PHP Programming is a great book as well... I have them all, the first 2 are in my native language (Danish) though, it makes it somewhat easier to understand when you have it in the language you know best...

World Clock
IMO it would be easier to have it on the main site under the TET database which we are currently working on :)

World Clock
Noted... i'll be trying to figure something out for the main site with a count down... Should hopefully not be a problem, and hopefully it'll help a lot of people...
