Neither will decently run Rs at high settings. You should fork out a little more money and get something that's not at walmart, the computer will last much longer if it's something more to date than these 7 year old laptops.

My brother and I looked around still, and found more. We found someone that had the same problem, and that person solved it with a TV firmware update. Not wanting to risk the warranty, we won't update the firmware of the TV. I tried the laptop on my secondary computer screen and there was no flicker, so that seems to have been the problem all along.

The TV doesn't have that kind of Audio jack, unfortunately. The only problem is my brother doesn't want to use anything else than HDMI, but we found that the problem happens less when the resolution we put is smaller.

I might try that, but first I'll have to find a VGA cable and ways to have sound other than the TV.

Hi, My brother recently bought a laptop, and when he plugs it on the TV (which is a 720 HDTV) using HDMI, the TV screen will go on and off, sometimes more often than others. I don't know if it's clear what I mean, if not, ask more. Computer is on Windows 7 and has a GTX 230M as graphics card. I have already tried updating the graphics card drivers, but it didn't solve the problem.

Before choosing between the Xbox and the PS3, try the controllers. I went with the Xbox because of the much better controller.

It's pretty dangerous to keep an unsubscribed Norton. Not only is it a bad antivirus, but it's very outdated now too. Don't get AVG, it sucks. Get either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira Antivir. I find CCleaner to be a very good program to clean things, although it only mostly cleans temporary files, sometimes that's all that's needed. You could also uninstall some program that you installed a long time ago and never use nowadays. You can also go to the start menu -> run -> msconfig and then startup tab, where you can uncheck some programs you don't want to start with Windows, which will make the Windows startup faster.

Try cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser. Might be all that's wrong.

I fail to see how the VRAM is the limiting factor, except if op has either a resolution of 1920x1080 or has more than one screen, that's where it will limit, else it shouldn't. Heck, I have a 9800GT 512MB, am on dual screen and fail to notice much difference when playing games. The things I would upgrade in that computer would be the OS (Windows XP is so old...) to Windows 7 Pro x64 and the processor, even though it's a very good processor, there are stronger ones (and still on LGA775).

It's $70? I'd buy one of those ergonomic mice for that kind of money. It's slightly sickening what kind of prices Apple can get away with. They can charge that much because they are the best you can get in this market. When you are the market leader, you can do whatever the hell you want. Then after a month or so someone's going to sell the same thing for half the price. Apple is just overpriced most of the time.

Personnally I'd prefer the Zune HD though, but they're not around here yet. At least it doesn't have the Itunes junk.

Creative Zen and Sandisk Sansa. Both MP3s that I have and they are very durable. And stop with all that Ipod brainwash, it's not adaptable at all, seeing as it's Itunes only, and is one hell of a high price.

Then if it annoys you, make so that it doesn't pop up? Meh I don't mind that, but I did stop them from poping up on one of my computers. And of course it will outperfom some of the paid ones, moreso if you name the worse antiviruses (Mcafee or Norton (Although Norton is making efforts to become better again)) Personnally have never used Tred Micro, so I'm not saying anything about it. I'm just saying that most people I've seen having trouble with viruses are running AVG and that changing to Avira or MSE, they detected over 10 viruses on most computers I've changed the antivirus.

Never tried the new version of Avast, so I won't say anything about it, but AVG is a very bad antivirus. Based on? It was proven to block Aurora exploits and has a decent batting average agaisnt the fake anti-virus's floating around - For a free download, it's far from "very bad" Imo. Based on personnal experience and those who I went and repaired/did maintenance on their computers. AVG has a bad detection rate, even though it detects the known viruses you are mentioning, that I am sure most antivruses can also detect.

A restart is required with every update? Then there's a problem. Do you have the latest version of Avira? I use Avira on 2 computers and didn't need to restart them in the last month, and even then, it was for windows updates that I had to restart them. Anyway, Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty much the only other very good free antivirus.
