Usually they won't even need to fix, and I have done maintenance on some Asus laptop (mostly to clear dust) and they're pretty easy to service when it comes to removing the dust in the fan, which surprisingly doesn't accumulate at all, changing a ram stick (I upgraded my own Asus laptop) or even with the hard drive. 2GB is still nothing these days, the standard as I see it right now is 4GB, we're even starting to see laptops with 8GB in stores now. I would go for an Asus laptop if you are to go with one. It will last you long and you shouldn't have trouble at all with it. Edit: Oops just saw it's a netbook and not a notebook that he wants.

I've used Ubuntu and Fedora, and am willing to try slack or gentoo, which I will probably do when I next format my computer.

I personnally don't think there is a best distro, just goes with taste, but I find Ubuntu to have a lot of bugs.

Ubuntu isn't a program for Windows, also not the best Linux distro.

Being a programmer, I learned the keyboard shotcuts which goes much faster than using the mouse for most things. I even took the time to lean some from a few of the linux distros.

That's why I don't like XFX, they're pretty low quality and I've seen multiple of them fry for no reason on some of my friends.

To get the information of your power supply, just open the side of the case, and you should see a box most of the time on the top of the back of the computer, and there will be a sticker on it. Usually we look at the wattage and the 12V rails. That's why I went with EVGA, their cards are pretty high quality and perform very very good.

Cookies do not contain your information, and they're not dangerous. Websites use them to store things so you don't have to do every step again when you come back (for example on a website that you have to do a few things the first time around.

I'd probably go with EVGA or BFG, I personally always went with EVGA because they're factory overclocked and they have a very very good warranty on it.

Use Avira Antivir or Microsoft security essentials, those are free and better than ESET NOD32. Plus I believe that for certain companies, illegal keys do not get the full support on the antivirus. I don't know if ESET is like that too, but w/e. Plus you had 2 antiviruses installed, which makes it pretty normal that the virus slipped through, as having more than one antivirus will make that the antiviruses conflict with each other and lose their detection rate.

Wow they changed as much as that? My Asus laptop only came with 2 or 3 crapware programs. I also never had trouble with HP drivers, to whoever said that. Your problem might come from drivers, but you're not in the right place if the drivers you get from HP's website doesn't work.

As far as I've seen, Lenovo thinkpads' motherboards tend to fry pretty often. I know, that's what the college loaned to the students in the 2 years I was there, and for every 4 laptops 1 died in the space of those 2 years.

I'm not trying to be inconsiderate either, it's just we keep hearing about it every year, if it can just be remembered and that everyone got over it, like the pearl harbor attack or other, everyone would be better off. I'm not expecting people that lost relatives that day to get over it that soon either, but life goes on.

Remove AVG, having 2 antiviruses is very bad as they will conflict with each other. Keep Microsoft Security Essentials and download Malwarebytes, then scan with both programs. At least malwarebytes should detect and delete it.

lol @ your fanboyism. 2x a week is quite low for the amount of definition updates on an antivirus. Also, no antivirus can get every single virus that exists.

With Java as far as I know, building the UI like that gives unneeded code.

I'm not saying people should try to forget, what I'm trying to say is get over it.
