You can even find them at dollar stores. Low quality ones, but will still last quite a few years.

Not quite, the xDSL modem should not be filtered. Not always , it depends on your internal wiring. - MY ADSL modem iis filtered and works fine, i'd say about half of our customers have filtered modems, half don't. It's possible it may not be a phone, I've seen DirectTV and other TV that connects to a phonejack for programming updates cause similar issues. Heres what i'd tell my customers Unplug everything that goes into a phonejack - Run a straight DSL connection from the wall to the modem - No filter. if it syncs up - (if not, filter it) Plug in one phone and filter - place a call - do one device at a time and you should have the device pinpointed down What kind of technology does your company use? You should never have a filter on the cord going to a DSL modem (an inline splitter with a filtered and unfiltered side doesn't count as having a filter on the modem line cord, assuming you are plugged into the unfiltered side). DSL transmits on a much higher frequency than POTS so a simple filter on all phone lines that cuts off all higher frequencies would prevent getting noise on phones, and I just have never heard of a filter doing the opposite, I don't even see how it would work. I don't know, but my parent's have to have a filter on the modem as well, so there are different technologies. Anyway, me being on cable internet, I don't have to worry about that.

Don't generalize all Canada's connection because of yours. It might be the same for my parents, where they do not get the connection they pay for, but for me and all my friends we have a stable connection at the speed advertised by the plan. So, while staying in the forum rules, where do you live? I know it's probably rural, but I could check if you can have better than this.

You should read more carefully, I only suggest not going with Dell most of the time. Anything else I do help others.

Never go for a Dell, I've seen too many fairly new dells break to suggest getting that brand. For laptops, the best brand at the moment would be Asus, but good luck finding a good one in that price bracket. Dell went thru a crap period but they are awesome once more. Too many people refer back to the crap period, when it is no longer valid. My last and current laptop are both dells and neither have gone wrong. (well my old one has since my brother has had it but tbf it was software faults and every computer my brother has ever had has gone wrong cause he ruins them) Ok, then tell me why my work computer, which is a 1 month old Dell, had a motherboard fail on me (according the the IT dept). Also tell me why my friend's laptop, which is now 1 year old, but was 3 months old when his hard drive failed. Let's not forget my other friend's dell which was 4 months at the time old had the screen fail on her laptop. This is all in the last year, so I think we're still in the crap period. You just got lucky.

Both useless devices, but if I was going for one I'd take the RIM, seeing apple's attitude lately.

Well, I'd also look at Nvidia models, some are very good as well. If you want I could go and check for you. And to Dracion, I'm not really a hater, but when I see too many computers of the same brand having problems, I tend to tell people to stay away from that brand.

Really? I've found adblock for chrome to be just as good as the FF one... It doesn't block the ads like it does on Firefox, it just hides them.

I wouldn't go for the Dell studio, they tend to break too fast, well, like most Dell's I've seen.

What's your antivirus? No antivirus should make that huge of a difference. Also Minecraft is a game that takes a good bit of processing power from the processor as well.

Firefox 3.5 is kinda buggy, you should upgrade to Firefox 3.6.10 ;). Maybe I should too, I'm on 3.6.7
