Ah, those days where I was looking for that first job, those were the days. Anyway just to tell you, to get my first job it took me around a year and a half applying everywhere and calling the week after to know if they were interested in me or not. That's when I got my first job in a supermarket, until I finished highschool. I then went to college, and had a student job in the summer after that, but I didn't finish the second year of college and dropped out. I easily got a job in another supermarket (experience + connections) and then worked there for almost a year, before returning to college to take a computer science course (programming option), and in the sumer between the 2 college years, I got a job in a 3rd supermarket, since I wasn't at the same place as the first 2, then finished college. Took the whole summer to get a job, but now I'm a Java programmer/support for a pretty big company, and it pays pretty well.

I've had an AthlonX2 4600+, and at those high temperatures it was already losing some performance, I believe it could be the case with this one too as it's not too far from being the same specs. I would go with OldJoe's advice.

No, if you are going to install 64bit then that is a bad idea, even if you stuck with 32bit it's a bad idea because the programs may not work. Installing 64 bit doubles the chance of of them not working as they may not even have 64 bit drivers.. Out of interest why are you installing 64bit windows, although now days most programs & components have 64bit drivers/versions it is just easier to stick with 32bit if you don't need to upgrade. 32bit can read upto 4GB of RAM, the only reason I use 64bit at all is because I have 6GB's of RAM. 3gb. Not 4. Plus 64bit versions of Windows runs 32bit applications without problems, except for XP, which the 64bit version was only for businesses and didn't have that way of supporting 32bit application. All you need to do first is to check with the upgrade advisor, it should tell you, if I'm not wrong, as I've never used one of those lol.

A lot of dust in there? Other than that, when the system slows down, you could check the RAM usage (with the task manager), see if there is a memory hole in some program you are running.

My brother bought a very similar model, just a much faster processor (Well, ~3GHz i7), 4GB of RAM and not 6, much better graphics since the one in that laptop, I don't think it will do for many games, so you will probably need to keep games on low details), only one hard drive, but that's ok. It really seems like a good laptop, although you do have to either reinstall Windows off the bat or unintstall all that junk, but after that's done, that's one hell of a fast laptop and works very good. Battery life is good too, as far as I've seen, my brother seemed to be using it on the battery a lot. HP really is a good brand nowadays. I would still recommend Asus though, you pay a little bit more, but it's well worth it.

What are the obvious reasons? I've used macs too, and prefer Windows over it anyday, at the base they're both the same thing, but Windows has a lot more programs.

I agree with Asus, I have a 2 year old Asus laptop and it still runs like new, adapter and battery included (although it has lost a bit of charge time, it's still very long for a 2 year laptop).

Weird, I have a Dir-615 and have up to that number of machines (computers and Xbox's), and it has no problems. Maybe yours is set up wrong?

I thought Java was installed separately from the browser?

You don't need GParted, there's a utility that comes with Windows.

Ask him to lower it. You can have better for less, and I just went and checked the current prices on parts (except motherboard as it's unavailable now), and it went for less than what your friend is asking you. Try to deal with him to lower the price.

You just drag the mouse to the other screen, as easy as that. And yes, you should be able to have 2 screen with a SLI setup.

Have you tried changing the brightness?

I'd go for the Asus one too. Also, Kaphias, why not the LG one? Apart from the obvious of having no HDMI.

For the Keyboard, I'd say the Logitech Access 600. That's what I have, it's a very good quality keyboard on the side that it will last very long, even drains spills. It's not too pricey and you can't go wrong with Logitech. There are higher end keyboards than that, but on the price side, I think this one is your best bet. Plus it's wired, so no hassle of the wireless not responding in time. As for the mouse, I've only ever used the HP one that came with my old computer and the Microsoft one I have, so I can't really recommend any.

laura, inform yourself. There are more and more viruses for OS X, and if you go to the store, you will find multiple antiviruses for that paltform too. Since more people are going towards Macs, more people are making viruses for it. Right now there's not much more than reinstalling to remove those viruses.

Have you tried scanning for viruses? There aren't a lot of viruses yet on macs, but there are.

Have you tried doing a restart?

Why is that? I see no problems in having Vista. Are you saying that because you have Vista on a computer that's from the pre-Vista era?

I have both a Hotmail and a Gmail account, had the Hotmail one for 6 years now and I don't get much spam. Wonder why.

Professional is always the best choice imo. You get more than Home premium for less than Ultimate, and you might need to use the XP mode if you have very old programs.

Really? Android users seem to say that the iPhone is a joke... that the brand name is what sells it and that Android phones are way more better (user friendly, customizable). The only negative I see with Androids is the number of Apps... the iPhone kills it in that category... but the iPhone does have A LOT of useless apps. Would you still say the iPhone is better (I'm assuming you've done the software update for your 3GS to bring it in line with the iPhone 4 software?) I've never used Android and I think Iphone is a joke and that the brand name is what sells it (Well maybe the amount of apps too).
