Yep, defraging is pretty important. On Windows 7's defrag utility it never took me more than a few minutes though, with my 1TB and 750GB hard drives.

The defrag tool that came with XP is too slow and doesn't work that well. I'd say download a good program to defrag, either something like defraggler (which is slow but works well) or auslogics disk defrag (which is very fast but I don't think it's that good).

NOT! Detectionwise, AVG has been pretty bad for the last year and a half.

It's a laptop, so most of the chances are you can't change the GPU in there. If it's still under warranty, I'd say send it for repairs.

Performance/cost wise, ATI is better. Proven many a times. If you're trying to bash ATI over this issue that they know about and are working on, then you clearly don't know about the error in the nVidia drivers a few weeks ago. It actually killed your graphics card. I dunno about you, but a massive cursor > £100-200+ graphics card dying. Actually, to me all the cards are the same, but people on this forum are biased towards Ati saying it's way better.

This feels like overheating to me, Check if you have a lot of dust in the computer and clear it if it's the case with a can of air. Also, why didn't you get Windows 7 instead of Vista?

It would cost too much for me to report them, although I tell everyone not to go there. Anyway in the last years they've been getting a bad reputation and seem to be close to closing. Hell, even the computer shop located at 1hour away easily is competition to them with very good service and internet-like prices.

Windows update not useful? Actually they are very useful as they fill security holes and such. Also, instead of Avast, use either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira Antivir.

The person you talked to obviously didn't know what he was talking about, and with that I would tell you to avoid at all costs that shop again, like I personally avoid at all cost my local computer shop as they not only purposely make so that computers break after a few months, but they also put illegal versions of Windows on the computers they sell. I'm going to look that problem up a bit, I've had my cursor flash like that too, but hasn't happened to me since like 6 months. Actually was on Windows 7 Beta.

I'd personally look at Asus laptops, they are very reliable and will not break. HP is pretty reliable too from what I've seen and experienced with my old computer that was an HP. Tell me a price and I'll find a laptop that I would think would suit you pretty well.

Asus is much better than Toshiba as it will not break as easily either. My 2 year old Asus still works like new while my friend's one year old Toshiba has to go for repairs as the screen is about to come off.

The problem is absolutely not the BIOS and is probably not a driver. What cursor do you mean here? The mouse cursor or the text cursors?

I'm not having this bug, nor are my friends, and I'm on Windows 7. You're just thinking that windows is the absolute worst. Chances are this bug is just happening to you.

Have you extended your desktop to both screens? you can do that by right clicking your desktop and t o go to properties then display properties.

What the heck? I've been having trouble sleeping too in the last few days, and so does a lot of people where I live. Might there be something going on?

I'm pretty sure he is talking about some sort of IT class (where you learn about computers). I take a class like that and we use Cisco for lots of our stuff. That's what it is. Meh, I'm on the programming side, so I don't get the fun to do that kind of stuff, I sometimes wonder why I didn't go for networking instead of programming, but they're both very fun and I love programming.

I don't think they hate web designers, I think they would like to follow their own standards.
