New 26k pvp method
Okay. I'll sum it up like this. Why the hell should you get a better drop, using the weakest of equipment in a controlled setting, than someone who's using an AGS and full Bandos, in a place where PJing could occur at literally any moment?

New 26k pvp method
There's enough wrong with this logic, but.."ability to AFK"? Are you out of your mind? That's not an ability; that's something that needs to be removed four months ago.

Jagex reaches out to Tip.It Discussion
It's a great thing since Jagex has finally opened up an official channel of communication, but I suppose you're right. Taking this with a grain of salt would not be terrible, since no one here knows what this will produce in the end. All we can pray for is good. But dear GOD, that sounds pessimistic.

Jagex reaches out to Tip.It Discussion
I'm not surprised that Tip.it is getting talked to, but this is actually rather amazing news. Perhaps it means that (finally) fansites will get recognized in some official capacity by Jagex? All in all, it sounds good. Really good. It'll be nice to see what comes out of this whole thing.

What's the deal with hacking nowadays?
It's been said before, but the only reason that people get hacked is one of three reasons: - Their trusting nature, - Their habit of picking passwords that relate directly to an interest, - Or their lack of security on a machine. Your friend probably fell into the second category. Listen. Tell your friend to not tell anything that might link to your password, or even hint at it. This prevents the simpler cases of players getting hacked. He has a decent AV package, so that's another step in the right direction.

Quest 150
From what I've seen, aside from the elven storyline, the Goblin series holds some interesting promise as to its storyline. Don't forget, Quest #100 was the precursor to Cook's Assistant, and the reward to that isn't worth discussing in this day and age...

5 Random Facts About Yourself
Oh man, this definitely does look like an interesting topic. Let me get in on it. I'll be doing about eight, since I have a few things that I don't mind sharing (which people seem to get confused about). 1) I'm a black male. Not your typical black male, either - explained below. 2) I'm eclectic in my tastes of music. I'll listen to just about anything with a beat, so long as it's not vulgar or gives me a headache - with the strict exception of Country. That's probably the easiest way to get info out of me, just turn on some Country music, and in exchange for silence, I'll tell you everything I know. 3) I'm attempting to learn about six languages, including but [definitely!] not limited to Japanese, Persian/Farsi, Dutch, Russian, and some Cantonese, if I get bored enough. I understand Spanish and French, but I can't hold conversations in those languages yet - I should brush up on those skills... 4) [in the same vein as language skills] Even if I've never heard the language before, I'm able to deduce based on body language alone what you're talking about. A girl from Iran was talking to her uncle, and I was able to tell that she was referring to my father's collection of swords in the living room while they were joking about something. Don't ask me how I was able to. 5) I'm in college right now, studying to be a Computer Scientist with respect to Programming. Doing well, especially in Math classes. 6) I will be turning 21 in about a month and three days, I'm 5'10, and I weigh probably 150lbs. 7) While I can understand slang, I absolutely hate using it in conversation unless I'm being really facetious. I was taught to speak proper English, and I don't normally use slang around anyone unless I'm just joking around. Turns out to be quite funny, too. :P 8) I watch fair amounts of Anime, but I'm not an otaku. 9) [Hey, a bonus!] I like reading a lot. A lot a lot. Anything I can really get my hands on, from a bulky newspaper, to "War and Peace", to The Onion. :P

High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
Look, it dosent really matter how efficiently you train, if you have multiple 99's in less than a year, without bug abuse/extreme luck and money to throw around, you probably play to much, or have far to much time to throw around (primary school, etc) Thats not to say your a nerd, because nerds would spend there time doing homework, etc, not playing runescape, but it would make them what runescapers perceive as "nerdy". Actually, it matters very much how efficiently you train. Who is going to get 99 fletching faster, the guy fletching dragon darts, or the guy making arrow shafts? If you're good at this game, like a few other posters have said, you don't need to spend a ton of time playing to get a lot of experience. Consider that you probably log on and just stand around doing nothing while the top ranked players are out there working very hard on gaining experience. It all adds up. [/hide] And, its still going to take forever, and you need to get the money in the first place to fletch the dragon darts by either extreme luck, or epic skilling and combat to get money. Okay, I can see your point here. Yes, it will take a while to get the resources necessary to begin leveling, but then again, Hunter isn't so hard to level to Chinchompas, and doing that until 99 rakes in more than enough cash to do whatever skill you like. Of course, ~33M isn't a lot, but if you know what you're doing with a certain skill or skills, you can stretch (or multiply) that cashpile in a matter of a month.

So I'm gonna build a computer...
Unless I'm way out of touch with the builders' scene, I thought that ATI chipsets were not compatible with NVIDIA graphics cards. If that's true, then you won't have a working machine when you get it finished. [if it's not true, then I'm going to e-bay this Radeon HD card and get a decent GeForce in its place.] You might want to talk to someone about that, first thing.

Spot stealers
that's the point. if he could easily move a few squares, why can't they? I'll call it a wash - but the idea is that no one spot simply "belongs" to anyone in RS. We make the conscious choice to either continue working at that spot or move on.

Idea: Iron Running
Iron spawns so quickly, having two rocks would satisfy about six people.

High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
I suppose that this is one of the problems of using the word "nerd" liberally...it gives a horrible assumption of some person. In this case, just because one has 99 in most skills, that doesn't mean that they're nerdy at all - it means that they have a fair chunk of free time (or patience) at their disposal. That's also not to say that someone that gets super high levels in less than a year is a nerd, either - they may have found a more efficient way to train certain skills than what is commonly perceived to be the best. (I know I'm looking into using Tiaras to level to 85 RC sometime in 2011, haha. :P) Iron was always better Smithing EXP per buck, and the Arzinian Mines have been a great place to powermine gold. [Aside] With the advent of Clay tools, experience comes in twofold on any particular item, and it only requires at most 85 games of Stealing Creation to get the most ambitious of goals with specific tools. I think that it's more about making use of what time you have, not spending gobs and gobs of time on the game. Those players that had 99 combat stats probably used Pest Control before the nerf (and in retrospect, I can't really complain about it); those that had other high stats probably ground them out using the most effective methods available. N0valyfe was probably one of the only high-levels that openly ran a blog about his gaming. The other high levels probably aren't "in denial", so much as you being dead wrong about how this game affects them.

HAcked Again. The 13th time.
School networks are one of the most insecure networks out there. Students download all kinds of crap onto those machines every hour, and more than likely, it would contain some kind of keylogger. Not to mention, if you're right about the number of players at your school, someone could have "shoulder-surfed" your password (meaning that they looked over your shoulder while you typed it in), and you'd be pretty much stuck there. Do yourself a favor and STOP PLAYING RS AT SCHOOL. Play at home where you can guarantee BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT that your network is safe. Also, I don't believe that recoveries can be reset in four hours; I think it takes something like a week, last time I bothered to check.

Spot stealers
It's not your spot. There are dozens of other rocks around you to mine, why not take a stab at those over there?

Remaining rsc traits players ?
I've got the scythe, but not the ears. I just got to the computer later that evening than I normally could, so I totally missed out.

Bandits.
After DT, I went down to the Bandits' training ground to see what all the fuss was about. I fought a handful and left [i did NOT AFK], since they didn't interest me long enough to stay there - I preferred getting the loot, and I wanted to get 65 Slayer for Dust devils at the time. I have seen firsthand the amount of AFKing that can go on there, but I don't believe that it was truly Jagex's intention. Why shouldn't they? It's like making a string X. It's taking out some of the grinding, not convincing people to AFK. It's more like bringing the wildy back in all its former glory and telling people if you attack ANYONE in there you will be banned. Or making a string X option and then telling people they'll be banned for using it. Why add a feature (being able to AFK) and then ban people when they AFK? In all honesty I'm sure Jagex know alot more about this situation than I do, but from my limited knowledge it seems somewhat idiotic. But I'm no expert. Mystik hit it on the nose with this one (and it's a perfect bullseye), but I'll translate for you. 1) No, it really isn't. Not only is it a stupid thing to do, actually policing that policy would be out of the question. 2) String-X is not an AFKable task. You've got to click on the bank for more bows sometime, you know. 3) AFKing is NOT a feature. If you can't see this, you need to think more outside of the box. 4) Jagex knows a lot more than you give them credit for.

High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
Ooh yeah, I remember him. He's probably banned by now. He wouldn't count anyway, he wasn't high level. :P No one's discussing anyone in particular, at least, no one is saying how nerdy or no-lifey (not a word) Player X is. The simple discussion is that players with 1900+ are generally referred to no-lifes, and that's simply not true.
-
High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
I really don't think that high levels are super nerdy, anyway. Many of them work, support families, and even do side-projects with their free time. It's just that they figure out the best way to train Skill-X, and get gobs of experience in it (or, like Larryr, simply like a skill so much that they do it ad infinitum). Just because they spend their free time on some game doesn't make them a nerd. It doesn't make them a social outcast. It just means that they have a lot of free time on their hands, which, mind you, we are in no position to critique.

Username Hoggers
A username should be unique and personally creative, not something immature or a basic rip off of something (or someone) in RS. I recall back when Rubber Chickens were released, I saw some character called "Me 0ff", and you can only imagine why... Be more creative when making your own usernames. The only time that they're actually hogging usernames is if you yourself can't come up with anything more creative than "The Epidemic". (And sorry, that belonged to a RSC friend, so it won't be available, ever.)

Mod MMG's Ingame Behind the Scenes
I personally believe that it will lead to a lot more problems, basically to the tune of: "Mod Mmg promised that the 150th quest would be coming out this month, where is it?" "Mod Mmg promised that Bounty Hunter would be coming back this week, where is it?" "Mod Mmg promised..." Players used the BTS as a type of guarantee that such and such an update was coming out. What Mod Mmg is doing now isn't much better than that; since he's the CEO, people will believe that he knows the exact release dates of every update coming. Not good. Not good at all.
-
Mod MMG's Ingame Behind the Scenes
I'm happy that we have a view of what's coming next, but can we please not get our hopes up in expecting it this month? This is why BTS didn't work out so well.
-
Would you rather have BTS or the DD or the SoP?
I always thought that the BTS spoiled way too much for us. Over time, its purpose shifted (unintentionally) from a sneak-peek as to what we going to happen this month to a bonafide guarantee to the players. That's what irritated me so much -- it all but promised that these updates were coming in such and such an order, and God forbid a technical issue arises; then you'd hear it all the way to the Space Station. I like Development Diaries much better, since it feels like what BTS should have been from the start. Enough spoilers to get us in the mood for the game, but not too many for the community to get too attached to it. @ Everyone that resents DD: Why? Must you know what's going to happen before it happens in order to get a thrill out of the game? Let's be honest - players that anticipate updates (remnant of the new "slayer" jewelery update) usually wind up making a huge assumption, and then yell at Jagex for not telling them exactly. Why not do away with that system entirely?

Jagex, the Antichrist
He only said it once, but Westerners have the ideology that Communism is bad.
-
Jagex, the Antichrist
Good question. Who does have more experience, the players of the game, or the makers? I've noticed this anti-Jagex attitude a lot, but it can be broken down in a few simple steps: What is new is unknown. What is unknown is feared. What is feared is hated. It's not just children, either - I've noticed people (who claim to be full grown) who act like they're the bee's knees, just because they plop down cash; they act like because they're paying members, Jagex is their obedient lap-dog, and if they so much as grow a personality of their own, they're slapped with the newspaper. I dislike the attitude, but I'll admit that not all of the RSoF is like that. Only on update days. :P

Should Runescape players be able to change usernames?
You'd be breaking the rules, and they'd either force you to make a new character, or re-change your name. Not allowed to have your real name (any part) in your character name. It's not a rule, per se. Now, unless you willingly provide that information out to others (which IS in fact a violation of the rules), no one can confirm whether or not that's your real name. For instance, "Makoto" is a valid Japanese name, but no one can guess whether or not that's my real name. ;)
