  1. Some questions about the Wilderness/PvP, while valid, were generally just a huge whine fest. No one there needs an answer about "bringing back the old wildy" or "lifting the trade limits", since they know what the answer is. It's literally the definition of stupid.
  2. Looks like a handful of Tip.iters were blessed enough to get replies today. Sure hope I get a technical response sometime in the week. I'm also glad it seems that he completely ignored the consistent Wilderness "questions" that the thread was littered with. That's promising. Working with responsible fansites also looks promising as well. All good stuff here. :D
  3. Almost true, if that person that is playing has a high level in that skill, it is very nice for leveling. If you do not believe that a low level can get attack/str/def/mage/range/slayer xp with out getting hp, then check out this guy from RSC Forums. [movie removed] Whoever is arguing that this is slow xp needs to take a look at this video and change their stance. Nope. He already had 92 Attack. He could get the high end of experience. It took around 700 points for him to go from 92 to 99. Again, a max of six points an hour means that he took around 44 hours to gain that kind of experience. Hence, nothing serious to worry about.
  4. I'm torn. I don't know whether to be glad that a new life was brought into this world, or go to England and beat the living crap out of both of their parents for not teaching them safe sex. I'll probably go with both.
  5. Let's go over this again. 1) How long does a game take? - 20 minutes + 3 minutes wait. 2) How many games can one play in an hour? - 2.6 games in an hour, or if we take the greatest integer: 2. 3) How long would it take to accrue the number of points he'd have needed (I'll take a guess at 400-500)? - If one can only make a max of 6 points in an hour, it would take between 66 and 83 games to gain enough points for 92-99, assuming that he was ALWAYS on the winning team. That's between a whole day and a day and a third of total gameplay; if spread out over a reasonable 4 hour timespan, is between six and eight days of total gameplay. [There's a high chance that my estimate is close; of course, Soul Wars has been out all of six days, so there's a chance he's been playing for longer than four hours.] 4) Why is this not a fast method of gaining experience? - Consider, if my math seems right, in about a week of grinding any random, meaty NPC (Fire Giants, Dust Devils, Abyssal Demons, etc), one can accrue more total experience and wealth over the same period of time playing Soul Wars. If anything, for high levels, it just about evens out. I'm not too worried about this. The experience is still slow (or almost comparable). I don't think that he should've been able to get in like that, if he didn't have many other stats...but, that's the way it goes. For a high level that plays the game nominally, this experience does even itself out over time.
  6. Jagex had spoken of rewriting the game engine to be compatible with modern consoles (which they said was not very hard). Although yes, I haven't heard of any updated to this project for a long time so I'm guessing they have either hidden it or more likely stopped. Sounds like a royal bother. 1) Port the game to whichever other language can run on whichever other consoles - probably C or C++, or some derivative thereof - depending on the number of consoles that they want to support - Yeah, the game is at least 1 million lines of code, a huge chunk of it being Java. That would take some work. 2) Support simultaneous updates of the game on all platforms - That means separate teams to maintain the code, so that it's at least released in a timely fashion 3) Offer bugfixes and support for all of the consoles that they'd want to support - Requires more staff, and generates less profit - no way to guarantee that console users would buy members, and if that were the case, then the console users would opt for a PC anyway 4) Requires that the game be connected to the Internet at all times - Defeats the purpose of putting it on a console; the idea behind that is that online gameplay is an option, not a requirement It'd have been interesting, I just don't see it being feasible. Of course it's possible, but practical? I don't think so.
  7. I collect costume room items in RuneScape... but most of those items can be earned by anyone who wishes. And all the items in my toy box, I wish everyone else could get as well. I don't think it's fair that they can't get the items but can get the music and emotes. It's a half-assed job on Jagex's part, in my opinion. Either do holiday events correctly, or never do them again (I'd prefer the latter because quite frankly they're nonsense and just create something for us to argue about). No, that's not what I mean at all. Das does a great job with explaining what I mean, as I've collected many types of cards (baseball, football, Pokemon, MTG, etc), and other classic things (NES, N64, Game Gear, Dreamcast, etc), which, while available in abundance at their time of inception, can no longer be found with the exception of niche collectors. This is the story of rares, including Bunny Ears and the Scythe. What's wrong with acknowledging, in some small way, that we once played the precursor to EVERYTHING that RuneScape has become? What's wrong with proving that we were a part of the beginning of this game? What's wrong with denying the newbies access to that? [Yeah, that should be obvious.] It's not an elitist attitude; it's more of a 'we were here first, and we'd like to prove it to you' ideology. Party Hats, Masks, Santa hats, and all of the other tradeable rares do not prove that. Emotes mean nothing; those should always be open to all players. Any item after the Yo-Yo can go to most any RS2 player, since it was a part of that game, but I do not want some level 3 taking the Scythe, like it's their right to have it. @Das: If you have access to the RSC forums, there's a suggestion floating around there about introducing a special something for RSC players in RS2. If that idea comes to fruition, then I'll agree that everyone can have their Scythe/Bunny Ears, so long as the RSC players get the RSC cape/whatever.
  8. Why do I not believe that? Probably because Java hasn't been ported to consoles yet? ;) Anyway, I haven't heard any rumblings about it.
  9. Regardless of the power of the awards, one can earn only a maximum of 6 in the span of an hour. It's also related to one's skill level, so there won't be any level 45s with 99 Slayer anytime soon.
  10. So I see the book analogy failed...alright... Do you know what a collectible item is? Do you own collectibles? If you know, have, or understand the concept of this, you'll see simply that we don't care for others to have these collectibles. We didn't have to work hard for them, or anything like that, it really was being in the right place in the right time - but, the point was that we were there, and we got them, and they did not. Before you reply to that statement, answer the "do you collect stuff" question. I just want to know if you can at least hear where I'm coming from.
  11. In any event, it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Whether they change the limit, or add some sort of extra medium (i.e. paper money that carries values of 5K-1000K, etc), matters not to this discussion. Since you don't quite understand the motivation of many players' desire to keep Scythes/Bunny Ears out of the hands of new registrants, let me paint you a picture. Imagine that your favorite author is giving out autographed copies of his latest novel, for a few hours on one specific day, and they would never be made available to the public again. You happen to be in the bookstore at the time, so you patiently line up and get a copy. A few years later, a friend notices the autographed book, and wants a copy. You tell him, of course, that they're not made available to the public. Literally the next day, the same author goes to the same bookstore and gives out even MORE copies of the autographed book, when he assured his fans that these would be the ONLY copies autographed. Not only do you feel betrayed, if you were to sell this book, its value would have decayed exponentially. RSC players were around to get these items, RSC players deserve them. I can't say that I care about any of the other events or emotes, but I will be damned if someone that has never dealt with RSC gets to wield a Scythe. Call it elitist, call it whatever you like - they didn't wait in line* for the exclusive item. *: Used as a metaphor; no one actually "waited in line" for any of these.
  12. No, it's not really endangering the game, but does that mean that it shouldn't be changed? I don't think that this will be terrible for the economy, because there are still plenty of other high-value items out there, and the people that had these rares would be compensated. I'd like to be proven wrong on this though; if anyone here can offer evidence to this idea.
  13. Truth be told, I don't. I know absolutely nothing of Jagex's inner workings, but I do know that there are limitations to how much a stack can hold based on the way that they store their data in whatever DB they use. It's the same situation with the XP cap being 200M, or the maximum level boost that one can have being 255 (WGS). It has NEVER been my goal to own a rare. My goals have changed over time, but the general pattern is the improvement of my character to unlock new things (i.e. getting 92 Smithing, 84 Craft, 86 Construction, 90 Mining, etc). There's probably a very small niche market for those that want to strive to earn rares, but the fact of the matter is, I could have a 200M hat on my head, or I could have 99 Smithing with an awesome cape. The hat looks good with the rest of my Dragon armor, but 99 Smithing allows me to actually make Rune. Tough choice. -.- I do agree that all non-RSC players should never be entitled to Bunny Ears or the Scythe, but to differentiate RSC players from others, there's a suggestion on the RSoF RSC boards in the works about some sort of cape or other decorum, which, I've been told, has been forwarded to the Development Team.
  14. Oh no, I disagree here. 3rd Age, while difficult to obtain, would only skyrocket in desirability, and there would be more clue hunters out there seeking that oh-so rare armor. Dragon has had a black eye ever since the induction of Barrows, so its prices would rise marginally if at all. As for Godswords/Barrows: Neither are hard to obtain, as GWD and Barrows, respectively, are simple enough to do to profit. Consider then, that after the demand explodes, the desire to get these items ultimately matches the demand of them, thus balancing the price out. For the first month, things will be insanely inflated, but after that, and after many, MANY people go hunting Kree'Arra, the prices will fall to where they belong. You're thinking that the supply of these items can be bought out. Only problem is that you can't dry up an infinite supply. ;)
  15. nachalo I could nitpick and say that a handful of people are still mighty sore about the Wilderness Updates (case in point: just look at the MMG thread on the RSoF), but that's neither here nor there. It's true that the RS community (and economy) can survive many things, and the end of rares is one of those things. I've long questioned the actual purpose of rares in our game, besides the fact that Jagex just came out and said that they were for fun. It doesn't make sense how any one player gets to decide that this [ultra hyper useless] item is all of a sudden worth so many millions of GP. It does nothing; it doesn't even tell you how long you've played. I asked around a few years back, when I knew some people that had these hats. Their general reply was that it could hold wealth for them, while earning wealth at the same time. While this is true, skills hold significantly more intrinsic value, since over time, one can make that money back tenfold. However, I fundamentally disagree that players should be entitled to Scythes or Bunny Ears, since those actually DO tell us how long a player's been playing. Sure, it's in the name of fun, but it'd feel silly to give everyone a Scythe when they weren't around to vote for it, or Bunny Ears when their account didn't exist before Easter '03. [before you ask: yes, mine did; no I could not log in fast enough to get the drop. I blame 56K. I do have a Scythe, though. :)] I don't think that the merchants will like the move very much, but consider that rares fall outside of the demand bell-curve; in stark contrast to the number of people that trade items on a daily basis, the number affected will be minimal. Not to mention, they'll be compensated for their rares. Of course, you run into a problem with the amount of GP that a player can hold, or can be stored on the servers. There's a good chance that the GP cap can't be changed due to technical reasons (don't think you can coerce an int into a long int; not due to Java, but probably due to the way they store data in Oracle), so somehow, you'll have to compensate that once a player hits the 2.1B cap; perhaps adding paper cash, where 1 note counts for between 5K-100K might alleviate that. For those that don't think that there's another high end item to earn: there's always 3rd Age to strive for, and not to mention, it actually has uses... konets
  16. So, the next time I go do an Abyssal Task, I pray for a head instead of a whip. Good stuff, that minion. :D
  17. Perhaps the HP experience seems a little too generous, but perhaps it isn't. I'll play the minigame when I can afford more time to see just how difficult it really is to get tons of experience.
  18. It looks like an issue with the new plugin (plugin2). Go to the Java Control Panel through the Windows Control Panel, go to the furthest tab right, and deselect "Use the next generation plugin", and restart your browser.
  19. Read before you post...he email jagex saying he was a concerned parent so he could see how long his "son" has played for. I'm guessing but I've probably played more than you OP, but I'm too lazy to find out It's not that I didn't read it. I just didn't understand it. They're allowed to give that kind of data out to parents, but not to the players themselves? How silly.
  20. How exactly did you get that info? Did you just ask a mod to get it for you? I thought they had some arbitrary policy against it. Anyway, that's quite a while. No bother - consider that the time would have been spent doing some kind of distraction, and as long as you enjoyed it, no parent can say anything.
  21. Sorry if I misinterpreted, but you don't want any weapon that is stronger than a Godsword coming out? --- Also, just because a few people went crazy and bought the claws for 80m+, it in no way means you make other people face the consequences who mostly got them as a drop. Nerfing them would be a very bad thing, mind you. If there was a time to update them, it was 2-3 weeks after their release. I don't think you'll see any change after 3 months. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj Isn't that what was said about Pest Control...? That's another topic for another day, though. At my Strength level (97), and at level 99, with the highest amount of Strength bonus equipment (incl. prayers), my maximum hit is 40. Of course, with the special, I could hit probably double that. Compare that with the Godsword, which at my level of Strength and at 99, I can hit either 58 or 59. Only the AGS's special allows me to go above 70 (technically 71). Do you see a problem? A weapon that is level 60 can outclass a Godsword with a couple of lucky special hits. I really do think something must be done, and a fix to it sooner than later would be best.
  22. The D spear has its uses. Javelins, however, should be removed from the drop tables of all NPCs.
  23. So much for grudging acceptance of a permanent decision...
  24. They're getting rid of the BTS? I must've overlooked that, but that's still quite awesome. The way that the Development Diaries have been done are ten times better than telling us what we can expect over the next month.
  25. 13-14-608-58364531, for those that didn't jump to the forums right away - of course, it's the typical reaction to a JMod post...
