Magic Interface Features - 27th January 2009
Wishful thinking, do you think that you can get a defence noob in full rune killed? It's hard without entangle they might have given us that as well or that other thing spell (snare?) or else they'll just run and do what they can do like nobody else tank, safe and flame... Yes I hate full rune def noobs in non-members who always waste my food in pvp and pj in the middle of good fights or at the end. They also safe and if I use magic they'll pray... And also I don't like the potential gainers but I hate def noobs more... Actually, without the ability for them to teleport away, they have no choice but to run. Running with 1 agility won't get you as far as running with 71 Agility. Not to mention, I'd probably take equipment to shred them in whatever gear they were in, so yes, I do believe I would. Besides, what is your hang-up with "def noobs"? Are you one of those players that hates others because they train defense?

Magic Interface Features - 27th January 2009
Teleblocking in F2P. I'm in shock. I might actually get some kills over there. Many of the other updates might look like a few bothersome updates, but they will come in handy sometime in the future. Especially the FoG teleport; I've still got some stuff I need to decant to sell.

Computer Dieing (Seriously)
I'm not 100% believing that the system is "clean" of viruses, from AVG. Download SpyBot, run it once in normal mode, once in safe mode, then reboot. Also, post a HiJackThis! log, I'm not sure of what it entails, but it might contain information that someone else can look at with a better eye than mine.

WHILE GUTHIX SLEEPS <-- TOO EASY!
The quest is actually pretty darn hard without a quest guide, and the only reason that the tormented demons were such pushovers were because you had 255 Attack, Defense, Strength, Hitpoints... Go back and see if they're pushovers now. I'm sure that they'll just roll over for you. TL;DR: Quest guides take the difficulty out of it. Don't like it? Don't use guides.

Furture RS Continent -Gielinor = Sphere-
We still don't know what the Eastern lands would look like, so I don't think that this continent will ever expand to match the demand for space.

Grand Exchange Price Updating
I take that from the quote-pyramid that you want to do your own PHP tests. My advice is that you find a system at home that you can use, and put Apache and PHP on them. PHP can be found a php.net, and Apache can be found at apache.org; installation guides for Windows exist if you Google them. My guess is that it will take quite some time for you to get the skill to get the data you want, so don't feel discouraged, take your time, and have fun with it. :P
-
Grand Exchange Price Updating
The legal way to do that is to set up a PHP script that pulls the information on an item (when requested by one player). This involves learning something about parsing web pages with PHP; I think that Pixel2Life might be able to help you.

Mages runes SHOULDENT stack
The generic assumption with threads of such titles is that the thread will contain a discussion based on that. People shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but hey, if they can't read much higher than a 12th grade level, they'll always jump to conclusions. \

Help put an end to junk trading
@Jenova and Walka: I've got to tell you, we're not ignorant nor unknowing. Giving up this debate won't make you look weak, but calling the OP or myself (who so happens to be in the OP's corner) "brick walls" will. Funnily enough, the same could be said about you from my standpoint, but for the sake of simplicity, I'll just give this whole thing up. The point here is to get rid of junk trades. Creating some sort of black-hole in which one can get some amount of cash back for their junk (between 50 and 70%) is half the battle; fixing stuck items, like 3A, Party Hats, or Divine Shields is the other half. The major issue here is that no one here can agree on what exactly needs to be done, and that's unfortunate. Perhaps one day we'll finally agree that junk trades aren't beneficial to the game, and we'll end them of our own volition. Until that day, I'll be pushing for some updates to the GE to allow players to sell en masse to Gen stores.

So, how old are you guys?
20 right now. 21 in April. I have a birthday that happens to have both release days of Desert Treasure and Pest Control. Spooky.

Help put an end to junk trading
Thank you!!! The word of the day is "monopoly". Consider that getting one of those Shields is beyond a royal pain, and consider that not many people actually want one of them (think "Why the hell would I pay this much for an item that I could lose?"). [And no, I will not take an economics class unless you pay for the tuition. I'm not spending my own tuition to understand such a mundane subject for a game.] @Jenova: I'm no whiner, and I can afford pretty much anything that I want. I have a decent bank, enough cash to satisfy, and I don't want a Jagex-controlled economy. I'd sure love an economy which isn't ruled by merchants, though, which happens to be the 100 players that Lep mentioned.

I blame Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and the first letter of my best friend's name for my RSN. :D

Internet speed, download managers, etc. questions.
That's Kilobits, not kilobytes. Kilobytes are the quotient of a Kilobit rate and 8. I guess that's where there was a misunderstanding, make sure you know which is which. Anyway, there's not much you can do, because even a 56K line is effectively 7KB a second, which isn't much of an improvement. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking? Because no man should ever be subject to that kind of torture in Internet.

QFT. I feel that everything you've said here reflects a lot about the market. As it turns out, the only items that appear to be "stuck" or are "untraded" on the GE are the items on both sides of the bell curve, namely low-use items and expensive items. Everything else is just fine.

Internet speed, download managers, etc. questions.
While your personal bandwidth is a major factor when downloading things, the server's available bandwidth also factors in, too. 1-4Kbps means that the server can only support you for that much, when you have a faster connection than that (24 times faster, but still faster). I haven't tried any download managers, but I've heard alright things about DownThemAll!, which is a Firefox extension. Give that a whirl and see what you think. Oh, and about the dial-up: My sincerest condolences. I remember my early days, living off of that stuff...never again. :ohnoes:

Aviansies tanking is it possible?
I actually plan to camp Aviansies until I have enough Adamant bars for 99 smithing (on Adamant platebodies, go figure), and I think that I'd probably do it where there were few interruptions, namely near the entrance. It's been a hot minute since I've been back in there, but that's where I'd sit. I also don't believe that it's realistic to get 99 from 70 in one "whole" go. You're going to get bored, you're going to want to do an update, or you're going to want to otherwise leave the Range training, so take it in (significantly) smaller chunks.

Any Computer Programmers?
I'll give you three choices. Introduction to Programming with C++ - Y. Daniel Liang - ISBN: 9780132254458 Starting out with C++ Brief Edition, 5th Edition - Tony Gaddis and Barret Krumpnow - ISBN: 9780321412911 Starting out with C++ Early Objects, 6th Edition - Tony Gaddis, Judy Walters and Godfrey Muganda - ISBN: 9780321512383 I have absolutely no clue about the prices of any of these, so I provided ISBNs for you to figure that out on Amazon. All three were a freebie from my Java professor. I listed them in order of book size, so that should be least-expensive to most-expensive. I'd imagine that one of those would run above $50, though. Sometimes I feel the same way, but I usually remember this statement that another professor made when I'm programming. "Not everyone thinks the same way you do, and not everyone will declare their variables at the earliest convenience, so get used to it." - This was after I griped about a code-reading assignment, people were declaring stuff out of freaking nowhere, and I was none too happy.

Finally: Runescape Classic coming to Rs2
Tell me. Is this "item" [in principle] any different than Bunny Ears or a Scythe? If it isn't [in principle], then why are you making such a big fuss about it?! Quit thinking about this in a we-need-recognition-for-playing-some-old-game tone, and look at it like a holiday item, in that a limited number of players would be able to participate/receive the item or benefit. I'd like that. I really did miss that drop... :(

Hate the cape, love the cameo. Especially since I can still access RSC. :D

Help put an end to junk trading
I fail to see how this is a problem. Let's say a general store pays 100 for each item at minimum, and you can sell 5,000 per hour. The amount of money you make is 500,000 - 5,000(Price of a Bow). Now, if bows were 100 each... you would make 0 per hour, and no one would buy and sell them. If bows were 80 each, you would make 100,000 per hour. If bows were 50 each, you would make 250,000 per hour. If bows were 20 each, you would make 400,000 per hour. The profit margin rises the lower the price falls. The higher the profit margin rises, the more likely people will take this "job", and buy up the maple longbows. The more people buying maple longbows, the higher the price will become. Therefore, eventually it will find a point of balance where some people can make money by disposing junk items for other players, but the profit margin is low enough to keep it in balance. I don't really see the issue with it either, but those are the specs that Jagex put in, not me. I've got no choice but to go along with those until I see a reason that it shouldn't, and so far, I haven't. Kind of. I said something to the tune of 70-75% of the GE price, so that one can get something back.

Help put an end to junk trading
And when will you see that 92k unstrung maple longbows is really worth 0 gps. The ge says in trade they are worth 13,248,000, and therefore can be added to a trade of, for example, dragn claws, to boost the trade 13,248,000. However, you seem to believe that 92k unstrung maple long bows = pure cash anyway. Which is wrong. In reality 92k unstrung maple longbows = 0 gps. I know exactly what those longbows are worth, had you finished reading my post. I simply know that the GE is wrong on prices that fall outside the bell curve, and I do know that the purpose of junk is an attempt to circumvent the trade limit. The idea that I was shooting for was a way to liquidate a junk item, by selling it to the GE (and having stores buy a limited amount of it every day), and getting raw cash in return. What's wrong with getting some cash from the junk, as to not punish junk traders entirely? Here's why. In short, this prevents the quick turnaround of selling a good that you found for cheap (infamous Maple longbows(u)) for a substantial gain. If that item were really to fall to its real value, players that sold it could make a turnaround of 9 times greater (assuming that the price falls to 15gp per). This also prevents a player from overcharging on an item that can be found cheaper in stores. I also don't see how it could cause inflation, either. If you're trading the item, then the GE dictates what it's worth. If the GE says that Maple longbows are 144gp each, that's how much they are in a trade. If you're able to get maybe 70-75% of that in cash, then that would be better than getting next to nothing from it in a Gen store.

Help put an end to junk trading
Mazgar...do you mind explaining your stance clearly (then sticking to it)? Because what I've seen from you in these last few posts was wishy-washy. If what you said isn't all off the wall, then you've managed to take your own thread miles off topic, or as best as I can see it. You started with a clear advocation against junk trading. I support that. Where is it going now? Where are you taking it? To everyone else - I don't think that the whole issue of junk trading will ever come to an end, not until players can see that offering cash to "balance" the trade, even if they're receiving cash in return, is no more fundamentally different than offering 92,000 unstrung maple longbows. Both items have value on the GE (ironically, GP is 1:1), and both can be used to fluff up a trade. Now suppose that there was a way to ensure that you could get at least 75% of that junk's worth. [Warning]Math[/b] on test -- Maple unstrung longbows: 144gp. 92,000 x 144 = 13,248,000. 75% of 13,248,000 = 9,936,000.] That's the kind of system that I would like to see implemented in exchange for eradicating junk as trade fodder. If it's junk, it's worthless to players, but worth something to the GE. That's the whole concept of junk trades. I'm not naive, I know that there are some items that are kind of off with the GE, but the chances are if we had more actual cash to work with instead of junk, we'd be more inclined to use the GE for most trades anyway, and the prices would start to adjust themselves. Repeating myself, I'd like to see some sort of black-hole system implemented in which stores, which sold the good to begin with, would buy the item at 25% below market value (using the static example, this means that maple unstrungs are guaranteed to sell at 108 a piece). Blocks would have to be in place to restrict the system from abuse, and the system would only sell to a general store provided that absolutely no player-offers were made within 24 hours. Again, it's no magic bullet, but understanding the problem a little deeper could lead to a better solution than adjusting items, or sitting around, wasting time arguing over econobabble. Sheesh. :wall:

L A G
Overheating has absolutely nothing to do with lag. Actually it does. If your machine runs hotter than it normally should, then you'll get slower response times. Too much heat in any part of your machine (CPU, RAM, etc) will cause slowdowns, or will cause the computer to shut off completely. This is the only reason that I never game on laptops; their form factor makes them highly susceptible to heat, regardless of the type of laptop it is. That's not lag. Those are hickups. Your network card won't ever overheat so there's no slow downs that are associated with a bad connection, thus no lag. Also, it's highly unlikely overheating will show symptoms that resemble lag. You will more likely get errors, graphical glitches or just a general crash. Anything can overheat if case is improperly ventilated, or has a whole bunch of dust in it. Besides, lag is pretty much anything that shows a noticeable slowdown with a system; doesn't just have to be from the network (which is really called latency).

Help put an end to junk trading
To get to the bottom of it, you can start at the most fundamental question. Is a junk trade any different than adding raw cash to a trade? I mean, if you were to add cash to an item to make its value appear higher, would that be in the same tones as a junk trade? If the answer's yes, then keep on readin'. Yeah, I'm talking to you, mazgar. The fundamental reason that I'm against junk trading is because it uses plain ol' junk, something which is of absolutely no gain to a person. The value on the GE is simply sleight-of-hand, as most anyone can tell you that no one is going to happily buy your barb-tipped bolts for the market price. Replace junk with cash, and you'll probably have less of a problem. Not to mention, if people have cash, they're more likely to use the GE to conduct higher end trades, rather than let cash fly. No formulas, no advanced explanations, no quote-trees, no Economics class required to understand this [damn that class; electives are supposed to be fun]. It's a very basic issue, and while fixing it might not be so basic, understanding the fundamentals sure is.

OMGWTF, spend more than 2 minutes on rs to make your cash!
So what's wrong with using MTK to make cash? I've done it, and I do make a nice taking when I have the cash. That's not to say that I don't spend a handful of time working; Slayer pays for MTK, which in turn, pays for most everything else. Whatever you do, don't fly off the handle about MTK, calling people lazy or calling it stupid, since the people that actually do it are far from it. I'm more inclined to believe that the people that don't do it are lazy.
