  1. Then just remove the quest requirements for Cosmics/Astrals/Deaths/Bloods also I had wanted to post the reasoning behind this, but Omali beat me to the punch. But, here's the simple version: - Every quest-only altar has a story behind it, such as Cosmics with Zanaris, Bloods with Meiyerditch, Astral with the Fremmenik Series quests, and Death with ME2. - During Troll Stronghold, Entrana has to be the furthest thought from anyone's mind during the course of the quest. - No quest is required to physically get on Entrana. I say it'd be pretty damn foolish for someone who hasn't done Lost City to be able to craft Cosmics, if the altar is located in a city that they haven't found.
  2. On the subject of Wilderness, I recall times when PKers would occasionally leave an R2H unattended intentionally just within their range. I always laughed at the folk that were piled within seconds of approaching that bait... There was also a time that training at Dark Mages in shallow Wild was actually enjoyable. It seems to be one of my better RSC memories for whatever reason... Heh, last memory: Bought a Santa for 350K, had major buyers' remorse, sold it to a General shop for 60gp :wall:
  3. Regardless of the simplicity of a quest, it shouldn't be a requirement to make a rune slightly above Nature in importance.
  4. Consider any amount of time that you're playing a game "dead" time. You're not going to be doing anything constructive in the next few hours if you decide to play a game anyway... Alright, now onto the actual post. In a word, this game is epic. Shallow learning curve, easy to understand, and a very diverse set of units to use in battle. The strategy is familiar for those familiar with resource-centered games: Capture what resources you can to starve your enemies, and either sedate them with medium-strength but relatively pathetic units, or blitz them with super-strong units. I've also discovered that for a mere 600 mana, an Aviansie can beat the living tar out of anything that can't attack Flying. One of those held up against four TzHaar-Ket armies until the guy just left. :D
  5. I found formatting my hard disk to be complicated and tedious, so I put it in a Virtual Machine instead. I took a slight hit from performance (one core instead of two), but it ran kinda smooth. [hide=Some things never change...][/hide] I'm not sure what's fundamentally changed. It reminds me of Vista with less bloat to it. Great, but not much of an improvement in my eyes. My only hope is that when the real deal comes out, you're never logged in as the Administrator account, and programs don't need it. Bad things happen when you're made the admin...
  6. My guess is that this is a day late and a dollar short, but the best defense for these kinds of things is a good offense. Regardless of who told you what about any site, don't trust it. And if you do visit it, do it on a machine that you don't mind turning to scorched earth. Some torrents are nasty business, and most of the problems with machines I've had to fix have dealt with those. Whoever suggested NOD32 is right; it's pretty good as far as AV goes. Just so you know, there are some viruses out there that can come back through System Restore points, so when you get a chance to, disable those. To further clarify on torrents: A way to share files without the need of a centralized server. I use torrents for Linux ISOs since it seems to be quicker than a direct download, but be wary: people will always try to peg it as something bad and evil. Hope your machine's restored to a usable state now. Back up your data now to avoid a major loss should something like this happen again.
  7. That doesn't mean that Rune smithing is profitable again. Still costs an inordinate amount of cash to make the more desirable Rune things (sets, 2hs, scimitars, etc), and you'd be losing money if you bought/smelted from ore. Plus why would you go past 80 if you're training for Stealing Creation? 85 is require for anything Runite... Unless you mean that training to 80 inspired people to go higher or that people are using the hammers... I'd think people to be training towards 99 at the fastest rate possible (using rune bars with SC hammers). Smithing just isn't a profitable skill anymore. But the cheaper xp really makes it a real strong possibility that people are buying rune ore/bars to level faster. If you go to the anvils in varrock about 80% of the people you'll see there are using the clay hammers. No, the best money:experience ratio with Smithing still is Iron. The only difference between using the proto-tools with Rune versus using them with Adamant (which, mind you, is FAR cheaper) is about 25xp more with Rune. Iron beats 'em both though, only 50xp a bar though...
  8. Talk about a nostalgic look back into the past. I still remember 300K Blue masks, 1M red partyhats, and the trading interface that was a royal pain to get every cent exact... The map there looks right, too. Just imagine that you're standing on some mountain in the Wild, looking south. I also note that the major features of big cities (Varrock, Falador) have remain essentially unchanged. There's still a moat around Falador Castle, and there's a huge courtyard in front of Varrock Castle. Ahh, memories...

  10. They didn't get rid of the Necromancer's house, which is south of Ardougne. Go give him a visit.
  11. Which graphics cards have drivers for Windows 7 now? That'd probably be the issue, since I don't think the major two (ATI/NVIDIA) have them out just yet.
  12. You only ever need combat gear in one or two parts of the actual quest, so why would you bring that gear and not food/Prayer Potions?
  13. That's a reasonable tactic. To begin with, I'm no level 131, but I do a similar thing: Gather/isolate as much level-4 clay as I can, get some gear, then attack the enemy towards Endgame (within the last 2 minutes of the game). Retribution won't work as well against one person since more times than not, they're in kamikaze mode with a dagger or scimitar (or me, with a warhammer :P). In that case, it's more about tactic than balance, since anyone with a level-4+ dagger can prove a showstopper against an enemy's gathering.
  14. That's stupid. So we should just accept everything? If something needs to improve, Jagex wants to know. It's something that's actually as old as the game itself. What can be done about it, really? How would we allow someone that just got a kill to walk away scot-free in a danger zone? Answer that question, and then we might have a basis to fix PvP so that it's acceptable.
  15. I agree with this. Being able to use adult language doesn't convey maturity. Knowing what those words are, and knowing where and when they're appropriate (less than 1% of all conversation), now that's mature. I don't think that parents will talk to kids though. More or less, they'll be trusting either the child or some silly software program to do the role of Internet etiquette instead.

Overheating has absolutely nothing to do with lag. Actually it does. If your machine runs hotter than it normally should, then you'll get slower response times. Too much heat in any part of your machine (CPU, RAM, etc) will cause slowdowns, or will cause the computer to shut off completely. This is the only reason that I never game on laptops; their form factor makes them highly susceptible to heat, regardless of the type of laptop it is. I see reading is your strong point Yeah, so I missed that. Sorry. I don't recall it being in the first post, but then again, I did post this when I was kinda sleepy. Wasn't meant as a dig, really -- I can't remember when those came out. :P Anyway, to address the lag, check your connection. Not the speed, but the reliability (what percent of packets get through if you ping google.com a thousand times, for instance). If it falls below a certain threshold (probably between 80 and 90%), then contact your ISP and ask why they're not giving you a reliable connection.
  17. In some skills (mostly Combat skills), maxing out is either inevitable or less painful. Other skills, like Mining or Fishing, that's just painful at times. It might not be about the fastest XP rate, since for either Mining or Fishing that's Granite and Sharks, respectively, but more of what they like to do. Doing something you like really takes the edge off of it.
  18. The idea against PJers is to have enough food left to survive. If you don't, get ready to bolt to a safe place as soon as your opponent dies. You're simply fighting against an opportunist; take away that opportunity, and they won't bother you much.
  19. I'm not bothered by allowing us to say damn, but when the abuse kicks in, we'll have a problem on our hands.

    1) I didn't know the Fight Caves were out for a whole seven years. Wow. 2) I suspect overheating, but not as a catalyst to the lag. It could also be your connection. Address both and see if you lag as much.
  21. Are you serious? What would you do? Instantly log out when you see the timer? I always play till the last second when I see that timer, unless I'm at GWD or something. I wouldn't instantly log out, I'd just log out as soon as possible. No sense in playing down to the wire; you're just asking to get a really good drop (i.e. Visage) taken away from you.
  22. It seems that in RuneScape, money is more paramount than most anything. So, when players buy something, they buy it because it was valuable at one time, and if they disliked it, it'd have a reliable resell value. I'll admit, I have moments like that, but it's still silly. What good is money if you can't enjoy it?
  23. Why does freedom of speech come up anywhere......? There is no such reality of freedom of speech..... only the perception of freedom. I am sure many people will be thinking "it's free in america" well it's not.... in fact America is more censorship than most of the western world. In Jagex products whilst there is not freedom of speech, there is defiantly freedom of opinion. It's just a controlled environment. This is what we call "seeing the forest through the trees". It's blatantly obvious that I intended no deep revelation of true Freedom of Speech (and yes, you're absolutely right); I was simply stating that it's a private forum, and those freedoms don't apply. I use swear words to express extreme displeasure, and that doesn't mean I'm an idiot. No, but it probably conveys something far worse.
  24. Why is "freedom of speech" even coming up in a private forum?
  25. oh god :D Question: You didn't notice the System Update bar, and when you had the drop, you didn't decide to get the hell out and dodge?
