  1. You can't guarantee that in real life either, but guess what? Is every so called "trust trade" a scam? No, look at Amazon, Bestbuy.com, or NewEgg.com, or ANY online retailer. What GUARANTEE do you have that they won't just take your money and run? It takes a day to set up a web site, so don't tell me "they have a place where you can reach them," because RuneScape accounts are more permanent than websites are. You AGAIN are saying that anybody loaning an item out must be a scammer, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Why? Why do entrepreneurs have to be labeled as scammers? Do you have any evidence that they have scammed? Do you have any real proof of it? I would love to see some, if that is the case. And here's why real-life analogies fail! Most (if not all) online retailers have a method for you to track your order online. Of course, the online companies themselves aren't doing any of the shipping; that's handled through third-parties like UPS or Federal Express. That's where the "guarantee" is, and that guarantee's pretty ironclad -- after all, it's FedEx and UPS that are giving out the tracking numbers. As far as RuneScape goes, the only real guarantee you get when you deal with items is in the trade system, not the Item Lending system. Ergo, you have no way to assure yourself or anyone else for that matter that you'll receive the agreed payment. Second, I never said that anything about people loaning out items being scammers. I have no clue where you got that from, or why you thought I said it. All I said is that it's a matter of principle. You just don't have any way to guarantee that the deal is going to go all the way through with Item Lending. Of course, if you have evidence to the contrary, I'd love to see that. Lastly, I don't understand what your analogy is between RuneScape accounts and websites, the former being "more permanent" than the latter. What were you on about? [side-note] Seriously folks, how many of you honestly forgot that this system wasn't meant as a way to rent items in the first place? EDIT: The KB is just as misinforming as the RSOF unfortunately haha You really can't trust anyone except Andrew and Paul Case in point. I'm just really wary of where information that is "set in stone" is ever since that little scenario. But you're right, the KB has its flaws and can often be incorrect/contradict something else.
  2. Well, ever since that fiasco with the Wilderness and luring thing being "official" (even a JMod posted it on the forums!), I've been wary of what's said on the RSOF. I won't believe it's "in stone" until I see it on the Item Lending page as a FAQ.
  3. How is it misuse? And don't give me that "Jagex Mod said it was okay" line; recall the Wilderness luring fiasco?
  4. First most of these trades are for junk and as jagex has stated trading for junk is just like trading for any other item. And the item is given because you bought something that they are unable to sell otherwise Doesn't change the principle of the matter. How can you absolutely guarantee that they're going to give you the items/payment for the item rental? Simple answer: You can't. And I hope that they don't implement such a system, either.
  5. The only real way that this system can be abused is if people forget its intended purpose. It's called Item Lending, not Item Loaning. Get it straight.
  6. There's your reason. It's not fast enough to support HD.
  7. Let's get some basic English down, first. Do you know what "cripple" means? Because, with the way you've been droning on about it, it sounds like you don't have a clue. Second, programming a part of a game, testing it, then throwing it in a very long queue of other projects means that it takes a while. Either be patient, or get lost. Highlander's right, you don't have an argument. It all goes back to the "don't like, don't play" philosophy. What you can't seem to get wrapped around your head is that no one is forcing you in any shape, form, or fashion to keep playing this game that you loathe so much. But you act like it's your reason to exist, and without it, you can't breathe. Of course, you're also acting like it's the worst company in the world since Enron, so you rant about it until you're satisfied. Do yourselves a favor, Gin and eatrunearrow (and anyone else that's dissatisfied): Walk away from RuneScape. Walk away from RuneScape fansites. And don't look back. So you have no remorse while you willingly broke the rules, eh?
  8. I figured it kind of weird that I'd be remiss about the massive Dell logo on your screenshot. Jesus, that really threw a nice lil' curveball in my logic. Anyway, I've determined that the machine is a laptop, either an Inspiron 8200 or 5150, or another ambiguous type. Only you can confirm that. Natrually, this changes everything. [Of course, why you didn't mention this from jump also contributes to confusion.] First, this makes the replacement of the video card impossible. It's not worth the hell trying to take a GPU out of a laptop. I know this from experience. -.- Second, this also means that the machine can't be expanded beyond a certain point, so RAM's probably stuck at either 1 or 2GB. Third, you're going to want to pay close attention to this part. It's the most crucial point. Because your machine is a Dell, all of your support is done through Dell. This includes drivers. This includes the ATI drivers. This means that the drivers from ATI themselves would act funky (an obvious enigma in itself; wouldn't the manufacturer know more than the distributor?). This means simply that you have to download the drivers from Dell. Underneath your PC, there should be a service tag. I don't think it's longer than 6 or 7 characters. Jot that down and then go to [Dell Drivers and Downloads]. Enter it in where appropriate, and select the newest driver you can. Also, it's not that we disagreed on what the best solution was. It just goes to show you that one man's theory is not always concrete or end-all to another.
  9. Okay, so I had some more time to think about it, and my first hunch was right. Your graphics card can just barely handle HD. According to [Jagex's Graphics Card Comparison], yours doesn't even meet minimum specifications to run HD (yours being a Radeon 9 Budget type). That explains the blue artifacts on screen, and it's more than easy to rule out the monitor -- if it were the monitor, it wouldn't print any distortions with it. The best way to remedy this is to not use HD, as unfortunate as it is, and buy a new graphics card. I trust that your machine isn't much older than six years old, so it should support AGP 8X. If you don't really know, ask for someone to consult you in person while replacing computer parts.
  10. Just out of interest, do you use GNOME or KDE (or Xfce) because I've found that KDE is somewhat more efficient than GNOME. I don't know much about its working, but everything seems a lot smoother than it did on GNOME and even Xfce. That said, you won't get much of an increase in performance out of Xfce on a mid-end machine. Kubuntu seems to run much faster on my machine than Ubuntu or Xubuntu. I used to be a KDE guy, but I made the jump back when 6.06 hit. I didn't really like the way it felt, and it didn't seem to suit all of my needs 100%, so I jumped ship. Oh, and ever since KDE 4 came out, I'm darn near scared to go back to it. Reminds me too much of Vista. I've also felt that GNOME runs smoother, and the interface was always a little more appealing. But then again, I'm rambling about personal preferences. :P
  11. I did a bit of digging and I don't like making assumptions. But, here's what I've come up with: [*:3a1y17y7]The card is AGP, running at 4X [*:3a1y17y7]The card has 64MB of RAM [*:3a1y17y7]The card is using a Radeon 9000 Pro chipset [*:3a1y17y7]Your maximum resolution is 1024x768 Anyway, I'm believing that your card is "running on rims" when it comes to HD. Sure, a 64MB card is all you really need with a decent processor, but you're still cutting it close -- close enough to produce those artifacts during HD gameplay. I'll need your processor specs, RAM specs, and a dxdiag screenshot if you feel like it. I'm ready to believe that your machine can't handle HD.
  12. No one in their right mind is going to spend $5 or more on a godsword for 24 hours. That just screams of stupidity. And anyone that would doesn't deserve to be playing the game.
  13. [Rule #8: Multiple Logging In] It's in the rules and in the Terms of Service. Doesn't matter HOW you feel about the rule, it's not permitted by their ToS. Violation of contract, plain and simple. Oh, by the by, it doesn't matter how long any of us have been around. The rule regarding this hasn't changed. I hope you enjoy your time over at WoW, because I sure as hell don't want to see you back.
  14. I'm not necessarily sure what your complaint is about CS. As far as I know, CS is doing alright, handling only the most serious of situations, like locked/banned accounts (yes there is a way to query it, no it is not on the forums), complaints, suggestions, and so-forth. It's a vast improvement to the archaic CS system, where you could get a reply from a JMod, and depending on the nature of it, have another JMod completely reverse the 'official' answer.
  15. Same day skill assists came out. Personally, I'd like to see it where you can advertise your skill assists in a certain skill, and the skill symbol and level will appear over your head. I'll admit that it would be a nice function to the Assist function. However, that doesn't mean that the player is absolved from making sure that they're getting what they asked for. Back before we even had this system, we had no other choice but to look the other player up. Why can't people do that until a newer method is implemented?
  16. Not only did you admit to doing it, but you're going back to WoW. I couldn't be happier. See ya later, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  17. Who would be foolish enough to rent a Godsword for $5/24h anyway? Sounds to me like you're worrying over absolutely nothing.
  18. Ok...why would you want to limit their playtime??? In addition to what Skiittles said, it gives the parents finer grained control over what their children do online. Sure, you can go out and buy filtering software, but that costs an arm and a leg. At least with this system, I hope, parents will be able to regulate what their kids are doing in RuneScape. Besides, sitting inside for hours on end on a beautiful Summer holiday is no way for anyone to live their life. Get outside and play, dammit.
  19. Parental control dashboard for all the children younger than 13 (guaranteed) and hopefully younger than 17? It's about damn time. I couldn't be happier for such changes.
  20. I think I understand the gravity of the situation now. As long as it's nothing illegal... Your best bet is to use DBAN if you're serious about it. There's also a way to remove files from a Windows system in a LiveCD environment, provided you have a little bit of Linux knowhow and a few hours of time. However, this method is much less recommended.
  21. So you're upset at Jagex that players are lying about their level and deceiving you out of their skill services. Back up for a minute. When did it become Jagex's job to check each player's skills, and make sure that you're really getting what you asked for?
  22. It's not worth the trouble to put OS X on a PC laptop. Best bet, if you're really interested in it, is to test the waters with Ubuntu. I warn you, though -- you may have to do a fair bit of work yourself, but if you're willing to, you'll have a machine that performs rock-solid. As for the webcam, you can search around a little bit and hopefully find a solution on a *nix platform. :P
  23. That's a weird kind of error, then. I've never seen it before. Are you using the signed version with Sun Java?
  24. #1: My guess is that SwiftKit isn't a supported browser. Oh well. Since you know it works in other browsers, your best bet is to just use those. #2: After you go back to low-detail, all you have to do is click on the name of the world you're on to change it. That hasn't changed much; it's just in a different place now.
  25. If you're on a Windows box, there sure isn't a way. Besides, depending on what you looked up, there's one or two server logs that already have that information on them. I'm not too sure if I should advise you on this "problem" though. What the heck were you doing that makes you want to leave no trace on your computer? Because if it has to do with the FBI, I want no part of those guys.
