  1. Could be that there's interference with the card, or that there's a malfunction, too. If you can, could you tell us the type of device it is? (Look under Control Panel - System - Device Manager, or type "Device Manager" in the search bar in Vista. It should be the "Modem".) If you can't find that, then you might want to have your mom talk to your ISP, or Internet Service Provider. She'll be able to learn whether or not you have limits on your broadband.
  2. The thing about this is that people don't always have an obligation to be courteous. I'd strive to be personally, but if I'm in a semi-dangerous place and someone dies, it isn't like I don't repair their grave because I'm a jerk -- either I've been using my prayer, or they weren't prepared well enough for that place. Lag [bleep]es happen, but it isn't like you don't know your own computer/ISP. Prepare better next time and don't rely on others to help you out all the time.
  3. I'd agree that Ajax might be the best way to go about it.
  4. I'd appreciate some specs on your machine, and a screenshot of about:plugins from Firefox. ;)
  5. Congratulations. You've completely shot your entire argument in the foot. When it comes to availability of resources, skills mean absolutely nothing. Of course, your ego blinded you to that. Oh, and you want to talk about original names...? Pfft. By the way, what's wrong with switching worlds? Talk about being stubborn, you're the one that's immature. Why don't you come back when you've had a lot of time to grow up?
  6. You probably should've mentioned that you use Limewire. My advice to you is to purchase NOD32, since I don't believe that anything free will truly help you at this point. Just in case, there's something that you can try to keep it from starting up every time. Press WinKey + R, then type "msconfig". Go to the second-to-last tab, where it has all of your startup options. From there, tick "de-select all", or some variant thereof. That'll keep programs from starting up on boot, and you can decide later if you absolutely need some programs to start up. Doing this also stops some viruses from starting up, but this isn't foolproof. Go buy NOD32, like I said, and get a firewall. Preferably an intermediate between your main computer and router. Doesn't have to be expensive; a cheapo box with two Ethernet connections works fine.
  7. Using anything other than a RAM stick will not perform the same as a RAM stick. Simple as that -- your paging file can let your machine store memory, but it doesn't mean that it's even quick. The read/write times on your hard disk don't even register with the speeds of RAM. Same goes with USB. If you want the performance of RAM, then get the RAM stick. Paging file is not even remotely close to RAM. By the by, you can't update the video card on a laptop, but if you know what type of video card you can fit into your tower, you can go right on ahead.
  8. u can try to sell it but it doesnt sell. so by my logic ur wasting time. You never said anything about trying to sell it. You claimed we shouldn't be selling it at all. Give me a break. People can sell whatever they spent their time getting.
  9. ...So by your logic, we can gather this resource and we're *not* supposed to sell it? What are you smoking?
  10. First, if it's a 404 error, they're either typing the address in wrong, or their internet hasn't come on in that instance of time. Second, if it's an error in the 500-Class, then it's on the server's end, not the computer's end. Third, people will use what they're best familiar with. If they don't want to use Firefox, then you can't bend their arm about it. Of course, their suffering will lead them over to salvation soon enough, so just sit back and wait for them to ask you to install it.
  11. While I already know it won't happen, it's still fun to think about it. It'd probably be the first mobile MMOG out there. Of course, it'd have to look like something a-la Zelda for the NES in graphics to run properly... :D
  12. You did this thing on your mattress?! Regardless of whether or not you're grounded, a mattress is still a static electricity playground, so do it on a table, desk, or otherwise static-free area. Anyway, the beeps can mean one of three things. 1) The RAM module is defective. The vast majority of RAM chips you'll ever buy are covered by a lifetime warranty, so call the manufacturer up and ask for a replacement. Check with the company to make sure that they'll handle it, too -- don't go assuming. 2) The RAM module has been chipped. This means that one of the metal connectors is no longer attached to the module. Best bet is to try to get an exchange from the store -- not sure if the warranty will cover those kinds of damages. 3) The RAM is incompatible with your machine. Motherboards are fickle when it comes to the type of memory you put into it. You have to make absolutely sure that you have either the correct module to use, or at least a supported module (for instance, some motherboards will "underclock" RAM sockets to accommodate slower RAM). If this is the case, then you're pretty much out the cost of the RAM (unless you can get a refund), plus the cost of the correct RAM. Hope that helps. I'd like to know the name of the motherboard and the RAM you're using, maybe that'll help a little more.
  13. How many economy speculation threads do we really need? There's easily two in Rants and a handful in Debate Club.
  14. Well duh, it isn't like your average playground bully is a mascot for human rights is it? Obviously. I just assumed that people here wouldn't stoop to such levels.
  15. It's funny how you give a meaningless example to base your defense on (I mean, who really cares about wool? String amulet anyone?). For the record, I oppose price manipulation. Simply put, it means that we have to hear more prognosticators worrying about this economy again. Also, what if you're trying to buy some commonly used resource, like monkfish? Someone would jack the price up to 600 each, and you'd never pay that. Would that be fair?
  16. Honestly, what you're saying can be compared to someone wearing FUBU or Rocawear. If someone happens to not like that brand, they get beat up. Seriously dude, grow up. If they want to wear something with the RuneScape logo on it, that's what they want to wear. Bullying someone over that is just below rock bottom.
  17. This i'd have to disagree with... You'd give up a fire cape for a two inch size AD, yes an AD, that has a woman with big breast? You know, something you can do AFTER the fire cape by searching the video site called Veoh? -.- Guys are so impatient... Okay. First of all, if a guy has a picture of a woman in sexually suggestive poses, they deserve to get owned by Jad, bar none. Here's why -- there aren't any advertisements on Members. So yeah, if something happened to "pop up" while fighting Jad, my semi-sincerest condolences go out to you. Next, and keep in mind I'm only analyzing this from a pleasure-vs.-time point of view, if the guy wants to give up a Fire Cape, which he works for 90 minutes for, in exchange for about 45 minutes of pleasure from looking at something like that, while foolish, it's entirely up to him. If he doesn't mind throwing away the time, he won't care. *sigh*
  18. Accidents with ads happen. I recall (and still have picture evidence of) the incident with Tip.it and a popular type of entertainment... In summary, just report it. They'll fix it. No need to second guess Jagex's priorities.
  19. But RuneScape doesn't run with JavaScript. It runs with Java. There is a difference, I promise you. I've heard tale that one can get Java to run with the new 6.10 update (BETA), but I'd advise against it until that becomes stable. Wouldn't it just suck to be playing RS and then get disconnected at some critical juncture because of it...?
  20. Aside from possibly the V8 javascript engine (I am unaware of whether google invented it or not), what did they 'innovate'? Their browser engine? Nope, that was Apple Tabs? Nope, every major browser has those Most recently visited sites? Opera has it I believe, IE8 beta 2 does too. Incognito? Nope, Safari I believe offered such a feature first, IE8 beta 2 does as well (InPrivate). Separate processes for each tab? Again IE8 beta 2 offers that. Crash control? Firefox 3 I am pretty sure has it, IE8 beta 2 does as well. Anti Phishing filter? hmm... pretty sure most major browsers offer that. As I pointed out, many other browser vendors, including microsoft (which is considered behind in the browser wars) beat them to most of these features. Nothing wrong with offering people more options. However, I wouldn't use the word "innovative". Mozilla and Opera are fairly far ahead of google at this point. Okay, I'll give you the browser engine and the tabs thing. Hell, you expect those features with every browser you get nowadays. As for the separate processes/tab thing, I'd like to see Microsoft release their code to the public domain. That's why I'm giving Google credit for it; sure, Microsoft beat them to the punch with it, but Google at least showed the rest of the world how it can be done. Innovation can only occur when the entire world can benefit from it. That'd be why I chose that word. ;)
  21. There are a lot of things that I like about Chrome -- the fact that it runs in separate processes, and the fact that if I terminate/kill that process, the sad tab appears (and a refresh brings the page right back up). Again, I believe that this will definitely be a competitor in the browser market, but I really don't think it'll usurp IE, or replace Firefox as the defacto browser. Not yet, anyway. By the by, "Incognito Mode" simply hides what pages you've browsed from the history tab. Sure hope there comes an ability to disable that depending on user privileges, since that has "curious but disobedient teenage child freedom bubble" written all over it.
  22. Provide some system specs, please.
  23. While I'll be giving Chrome a big test, I don't think that it'll usurp Firefox as my defacto browser. I'm willing to believe that many other browsers (notably Opera and Firefox) will improve on the innovation that Google has set forward, but as far as a total replacement, no dice. ;)
  24. This all looks very promising. I especially like the concept of multithreading out tabs -- it really does eliminate a lot of the muck [on paper] when dealing with too much memory. When it becomes available, I'll have to give it a whirl.
  25. Two questions. 1) What would the point of that be, and 2) How would Jagex ensure that the only people on those servers are over 18? Internet anonymity is a bother.
