Where would you be in life without Runescape?
Well, if it weren't for RuneScape, I'd probably be wearing a paper hat. Right now, I'm in college to become a Computer Scientist. Back when I was still in high school, I could have cared less about where I was going to go in life. But, that's when I picked up an interest in programming, and one day I would like to be on the level of (or above) Jagex, in terms of game/Java programming. As far as quitting cold turkey goes, I don't think it's possible. I haven't logged in since late August, but that's because I've got so much homework to deal with. Maybe the others here have found another distraction...

Rs on ps3?
Last I checked, I didn't see a JVM ported to the PS3's architecture.

Jagex is Going to Kill Bounty Hunter.
I highly doubt that Jagex will end Bounty Hunter because of PvP worlds. I really, really, really doubt it. Oh, and the absence of proof and [over]abundance of conjecture goes to further support that.

Request: Stats Calculator Goal-Stats Signature.
If you're talking about making an executable, then you're talking about programming, which I don't think can be taught in any quick crash-course to anyone (unless you can learn pointers or Java in a fortnight). As far as the code goes to make a dynamic signature, there's not a lot of information out there. All I can tell you is that many of them are written in PHP. If you want to make one, you have to learn that. The amount of time you'll need to spend writing PHP is actually rather large, as doing this requires a lot of work. At any rate, it sounds like you'll definitely need more people to help you out with this project, or you will have to study up on programming. Either way, good luck.

~Discussion: Guys playing as Girl Characters?~
I think that this is the only situation where a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy works just fine. Who cares if they're really a guy, and they play as a girl? Let them do as they please with their character.

Danger Will Robinson! (The do's and dont's in computing)
[Apologies for the double post, didn't think that these two belonged together.] Registry and MSconfig The Windows Registry can be viewed as the spinal chord of the entire OS -- it basically controls every aspect about it, and one little tweak to it can mean the difference between a slightly quicker machine, or no machine at all. MSconfig controls the startup programs, which is a set "list" of programs that start on startup. Many people look to this option to improve boot/load times, and while it helps a lot, disabling the wrong startup objects can mean that your system won't work properly. Tips: 1) [Registry] If you don't know what you're changing, don't freaking change it. One false change to ANY value, and that program may not work, or worse -- a critical system application will fail to run. 2) [Registry] Registry cleaners, while novel and generally safe, don't truly improve your system performance. What they do is get rid of the left-over gunk and residue from long-uninstalled programs. If those values are never accessed, they don't really slow the machine down. 3) [MSconfig] Yes, turning off everything on boot will improve system speed by a huge step, as the system won't have to turn on a lot of stuff just to get online. However, you have to know *what* to turn off. If you're going to do that, go to the "Startup" tab, and untick or tick the options that you would like disabled/enabled. If you're not sure what it is, or what it controls, you'll have to leave it alone for now, and look it up later. 4) In either case, if you're absolutely unsure of what you're doing with this tool, don't even think about touching it. It's not worth the risk.

It's amazing what reading the post will actually do to help solve the problem, yes?

Danger Will Robinson! (The do's and dont's in computing)
[Re]formatting There comes a time in every computer's lifecycle when it has to be reformatted, to either put a new partition on it, or to get rid of old data. This is to be expected with many machines, and is becoming more and more of a necessity in the case of users that dual-boot. Some tips before you go and click that button: 1) Keep that in the back of your mind that a reformat is practically irreversible. If you do it, back up whatever you wanted to keep. 2) Tools that can help you reformat are available freely, namely gparted and any Linux distribution. If you downloaded it from a dodgy-looking site, or acquired a pirated copy of some professional reformat tool (like White Canyon), don't use it. It could ruin the hard disk, or prevent it from ever booting. 3) If you've already formatted and partitioned your hard disk to the way you want it, be absolutely sure that you're installing the operating system on the right partition. 4) Lastly, don't use a reformat to solve an otherwise canonical computer problem (i.e. virus or malware or sluggish performance), unless you have already exhausted your other options. As stated before, you can't [really] reverse a format job, and if all you need to do is remove a virus or improve your machine's performance, there are other ways to accomplish those goals, namely with Antivirus, defragmenting, removing unused/bloated programs, and cleaning out your browser's cache. (Trust me, it helps.)

Can't Login to runescape in firefox v3 OR v2
I need slightly more details. Besides the version of Java you're using, I'd also like to know the specs of your machines. Yours too, if you want help here Pyromancer. Oh, and a screenshot of your about:plugins tab with Java present in it would be wonderful, too.

This, is one screwed up computer.
To begin, your download speed is probably not 2MB (read: megabytes) per second. At best, it's about 2Mb (read: megabits). [Yes, there is a difference. There is a huge difference. Go look it up on Wikipedia. ;)] But, I think I know what's up -- I kind of suffer from the same problem. More or less, it could not be on your end at all -- I have a 7Mb connection, and depending on what I download, I can achieve speeds between 90.5Kb to 705Kb. My belief is that it's the connection between you and your server, meaning one of two things: 1) Either they're not equipped to handle the level of bandwidth you're using, or 2) They've put download caps on their own server to reduce the bandwidth they give you at any one time. Many servers will do that. When in doubt, go to the official site and poke around.

Slayer is not good anymore
I disagree. Slayer is actually one of my favorite skills, and I was working to get 90 well before Dark Bows came out (college slowed me down, rightfully so). It's not nearly as profitable as it used to be, I'll give you that, but it doesn't mean that it's a crappy skill. Smithing doesn't give you nearly as much cash as it used to before, but that doesn't make it a crappy moneymaker. Same goes for Crafting and Fletching. I guess it's about your perspective (or rather, Slayer level). If you've got a lower Slayer level, then of course you won't find Slayer profitable. However, I see that I normally make 8-13M without trying or really counting my cash intake.

Jagex Attempting to Stop Monopolies?
Ticket scapling is not illegal though. It's a simple matter of suply and demand. If enough people want something, they will pay any price for it. lrn2 economics Take a picture of the officer's face after you tell him that story. That'd be priceless.

Behind The Scenes - October Edition
yes it was the first non tradable holiday drop Not the scythe, the bunny ears. Anyway, even though I don't PK, I'm looking forward to these new PvP worlds. I'm willing to bet that they have a system set up so that people who camp one safe spot all day won't get squat for their "troubles". :D

Jagex Attempting to Stop Monopolies?
It's about damn time. Omali summed it up best: Why can't we just buy things with the intent to use them, instead of the intent to "merchant" them?

Gold Famer's Return?
What's worse is that it's players like you that suffer the most when RWT updates hit. I guess that the cookie method isn't ever going to work with you. So, how about instead, we just start revamping BH to make it RWT proof then? No trimmed armor, no treasure trail armor, on Members, if you bring in items over 6M, you get instead half the equivalent money from that kill. You can stop RWT. The first step is to limit the avenues that it can use to continue business. And with a few tweaks to the GE, BH is going to be the only road leading out to the dark side.

$700bn Wallstreet Bailout REJECTED
We need to do something. It's the best plan they could come up with, but they didn't want to give too many details so people wouldn't lose faith in certain banks. Ultimately, I think that hurt their support more than they thought it would. This is not a time for laissez-faire policy. Well I agree, we can't really sit on our hands about this, but there has to be a better way to get the kind of money that we need to get out of debt. From what I understand of the rejected proposal, it was intended to be a gamble - they would buy up the depleted stock, wait for the economy to recover, then sell it at (hopefully) a profit, with the taxpayers paying the difference if the stocks failed to come in. It worked in the 1930s, but we were lucky to get out of the depression through a war -- when we were really producing things, and we were exporting goods instead of always importing. We can't sit on our hands, but the issue as it stood couldn't fly on it's own. I mean seriously, what's wrong with taxing the wealthiest companies and citizens a little (read: a lot) more, ending the really expensive war, and taxing pornography? I think the latter alone would pay for a fourth of the debt.

Gold Famer's Return?
Players can bring rune armors no? So if they bring noted or tons in single form: the killer will get alot stuff still.. So, you don't know much about BH, eh? No notes, no cash, no partyhats, no extra armor pieces per slot (i.e. you can't have a Rune platebody and a Monk robe, I dunno why it is but you can't). So are you going to tell Jagex so they can close this loophole, or are you going to let your friend cause another episode of anti-RWT measurements?! [i can't freaking [i]stand[/i] people that make statements like this. It's like they're broadcasting to the world that they know someone that's committed embezzlement, but won't turn them in. So damn irritating.]

WARNING: Clan Wars
But that's not an arguing point. If players took five minutes to read the Recent Updates, then they'd realize that there was a change. That's when Jagex tells its players that there was a change -- right in the Updates. If you mean that this update was unprompted or unfounded, then that's more or less hearsay. Jagex wanted to balance the game with some danger and minor looting, so there's not much wrong with them wanting to do that. If you wanted to know, you should have read the news. Who else is there to blame for your own ignorance? Yes: there is a small aspect written in the news. However, there is no mention of graves in the news post: I assume it's on the RSOF, but to be honest, how many runescape players read there regularly? I know that I don't, and I can't imagine a reason for a free player to read them either. They're very inconsistent with this: they had a spot in the main news post on Saradomin a bit back, but have not mentioned at all others. I have no pity for those who do not read the main news: but I do have sympathy for those who do not read the RSOF. Notice that there is no mention of the gravestone change whatsoever. Fair point, but you don't have to go as far as the forums to figure it out. It's in the KB. I'm also very certain that players have the option to read the Clan Wars screen to figure out if it's dangerous or not. Again, just because some people didn't pay attention doesn't mean that this is a huge shocker devastating surprise. Yeah, you're right, but if Jagex had did something along those lines, it isn't like they didn't tell you about the update outright.

Gold Famer's Return?
Removing BH would be the absolute end of RWT, but since they don't feel like putting up with the whining, they'll have to do something else, like eliminate trimmed armor and seriously reevaluate someone wearing full Dragon/Bandos/Armadyl in BH. But, just because they have Chinese names doesn't mean that they're autoers. Don't assume and be racist at the same time, even if the latter was a mere accident.

thankyou very much jagex (no sarcasm either)
Works for me. I think most any silent update to take power away from manipulators is a good update. It also ensures that players that actually want a piece of armor can actually pay a fair price for it, instead of having to go elsewhere.

$700bn Wallstreet Bailout REJECTED
Borrow it from other nations? That's how we got into most of this mess the first time. We borrow too much money, we print too much money, and we expect our word to hold value? Anyway, I'm kind of glad that the plan got rejected. Sure, we're in a major crisis, and our economy might not make it to February, but that plan was just too shaky -- I'm not interested in footing any part of a $700B bill.

Next skill that's officially been killed - Prayer
Just so that there's no doubt, Prayer was, by your own definition, killed back when Construction/Gilded Altars came out. Unlike the Ectofuntus, which you have to do ALL by yourself, you can have a friend light the lamps to get the highest bonus possible. Oh, and there's no annoying grinding process involved, either.

WARNING: Clan Wars
A lot of people went into Dangerous FFA wearing barrows armor or Bandos, knowing it was like Edgeville, in that you had a fair chance to loot your junk if you die. Now, that is no longer possible. It takes a lot of the fun out of it. ... It's dangerous though. It's supposed to be dangerous. It's not supposed to be a walk in the park, or a walk through old Edgeville.
