  1. Training magic in freeplay isn't much harder than training it in members. The difference is finding something profitable to alch. Steel-Adamant plates fit the bill nicely.
  2. When running RuneScape, your processor and GPU are taxed rather severely. You wouldn't think so, but since it's a Java game, it'll be taxed up pretty hard. When that happens, both processor and GPU heat up substantially, and due to the laptop's small form-factor, it can get pretty hot. The best advice was already given; get some compressed air and blow whatever dust is in there, then get a cooling pad to keep it nice and chill.
  3. Giving freeplay most anything that Members seldom use, or use for only one particular purpose, would definitely be a boost to the economy of P2P. Now I'm not thoroughly convinced that freeplay needs rune arrows, but the better bow would be a nice thing.
  4. Unless you previously installed Windows XP from your machine (meaning the one you're talking about), AND the bootloader from Vista can point to your other hard disk, you won't be able to use XP at all. Other than that, there shouldn't be any real issues.
  5. You think this entire topic makes you want to scream? Shoot, one quick glance at your post nearly had my blood boiling. Figuratively, of course -- no sense in getting worked up on someone else's difference in opinion. Now, if you had cared to read through the entire post (it's long, but you'd have saved yourself a lot of embarrassment), then you'd have realized that the more constructive points on this topic hinged on what Members don't normally use, or what they could realistically part with. Be reasonable now -- what person do you know is willing to pay $6 to use claws, Halberds, Splitbark armor, or Frogskin armor? Most, if not everyone that's posted here believe that freeplayers shouldn't get something that Members use a whole lot, but there's nothing wrong with giving them stuff we don't ever seem to use. You also seem to be very, very wrong about not helping it grow. Where the hell do you think Members come from, thin air? Lastly, on the subject of deserving stuff - we already freaking KNOW that F2P doesn't deserve anything. They still get updates though - on that tone, you could argue that they don't "deserve" it. I think that your "Logic to English" translator is broken. Go back, reread the post, and come back with some well thought-out response to it.
  6. I'm thinking that DSL isn't so bad, due to its lightweight requirements. Give it a shot, let us know how it works on your machine.
  7. The only right we have as players is to play or not play. That's all there is to it. Just because you pay doesn't mean you have any say so whatsoever.
  8. First, the part about not getting drops is a given, so don't worry about that. Second, why would I fight someone off of a resource spot for n seconds, just to have someone else come over and take it back from me? I'd take the path of least resistance, thanks. NOTE: I will address other issues of this later. Watch this space.
  9. So what else is new? No one told you to purposefully restrict your combat levels. Jagex's updates cater to the much, much, much larger group of players that level every skill up, so pures will always get left out of the loop. Again, no one said that you had to keep your defense or prayer low, you chose to do that. And now, you have to accept that not many updates will be made to benefit you.
  10. Pretty much sums it up. No, it doesn't. Use your head for God's sake. If you're on a safe pvp world it means when on slayer tasks and such, or while woodcutting or mining, if someone else is crowding your spot or trying to mine all your rocks or pick up all the respawns you're trying to get, you kill them, and problem solved. (Until they come back for revenge, that is.) It's basically a way of adding more events into the game. Imagine what you could do. Clans could have world wars where they try to dominate an area and keep out all non-clan members. Skillers could kill others invading their space. It would add a LOT more variety to the game for those that want that extra edge. So think before you post, please. Ironic that you tell us to think before we post... Anyway, a safe PvP world would serve no purpose, if and only if one were to use it to skill on. If you want to skill, there are plenty of worlds out there that aren't PvP. On the subject of overcrowded spots, I don't believe that an entire world should be made PvP to alleviate that problem; instead, change the way that we can gather materials (especially Mining). For those that want the extra edge, just skill on a PvP world. All the risk of death, and you'd get similar amounts of experience. I really hate the idea of safe PvP worlds, simply because it feels akin to a safe version of the Corporeal Beast. If you want save PvP, go to some minigame. If you want to skill and PvP, go to a non-safe PvP world.
  11. My guess is that the mass hysteria associated with having a mask finally died down, so it's resetting to its "natural" price. Don't think that those items will stay high forever - the best comparison to this is God armor.
  12. Name one holiday item after the Scythe that actually has a use in F2P. Then, and only then, will I consider that your rant is valid.
  13. For the last freaking time, if you're on a PvP world, be prepared to die. If you're not prepared to die, don't log in to a freaking PvP world. Get it?
  14. If you want safe PvP, go to Castle Wars, Fight Pits, Fist of Guthix, and Duel Arena. Other than that, I don't see why a safe PvP world should ever be made.
  15. 74-75-564-57855477 So can we now drop the whole thing about DFH's?
  16. I do agree on the Corrupt DFH item -- if it were really a bug, that item would have existed, and this issue would have been resolved within the first week of launch. All in all, it's more of a case of miscommunication from Mod to Mod. I don't think that they'll be awarding Godswords anytime soon though - that should be kept to a boss reward.
  17. So, why was he sent home? Any other (acceptable) reason? I don't see any reason in the article. If he was sent home just because he dressed up as Jesus, then we really need to re-think what kids get dressed up as. I mean, it's alright to dress up as the Grim Reaper or some demon incarnate, but not Jesus? Where's the logic in that? #-o
  18. Welcome to the heart of my argument. If the item isn't all that great, then its price should be reflected as such.
  19. And wasn't the dragon full helm a rare item to get which, ironically, was worth the same amount as the spirit shields with their sigils attached? How is this any different? Just because the shields are gained by a stronger monster? You're contradicting yourself... it's like saying it's ok for an abyssal demon to drop a d spear but certainly not a d med!!!11!!!1! They're like the same thing #-o Plus the reason I think DFH's being a PVP drop is wrong is because it's the REAL THING. They have corrupted dragon which eventually disappears... with the DFH, IT DOESN'T. What once was a magnificent helmet worth many a million and extremely rare to get, is now as common as a spectral shield (for example - don't take it too literally). What next? 3rd age? This is insane. I can understand if they would have made a corrupted DFH to spice things up, but bringing in the real thing is wrong on so many levels. It has not only ruined its rarity, but it will soon become just another dragon item that everyone has  The ironic thing about rare and powerful weapons is that no one will use them in combat if they're too rare. Moving on... I ask again, what's the real point of a DFH? Is it the best helmet in the game? No, and there are suitable and inexpensive replacements for it. Are Spectral Shields the best shield in the game? Yes, if you have the right sigil attached. All the DFH is really there for is to either complete the dragon set, or to show off how wealthy you are. Lastly, drops like DFH and Dragonfire Shields keep people PvPing, and you hear less complaints on how much of a waste it is. Unless, of course, you don't want PvP to be profitable... [Oh, and I nearly forgot! You can get dragon chainbodies and square shields from PvP, too! Who's making a big fuss over that, eh?!] And perhaps I am contradicting myself. I should stop lobbying so hard for something when it's 1AM.
  20. Compare the difficulty of killing a Mithril Dragon to the difficulty of killing the Corporeal Beast. Now, compare the usefulness of both NPC's best drop (DFH vs Spirit Shield/Sigils), and compare what replaces them at a lesser cost (most any helmet with a combat bonus vs maybe the dragonfire shield). ;)
  21. You're half right and half wrong. To begin with, yes, it could very well be something totally unrelated to Java, including other software, hardware, broadband speed, etc., but it is perfectly safe (and sometimes necessary) to change the amount of memory you can allocate to Java. The only limit there is that you can't set it to more than half of your current available memory (e.g. no more than 512MB if you have 1GB of memory), and you wouldn't want to make your system potentially unstable if you reallocate, so I'd recommend no more than a fourth of your current memory (e.g. 256MB:1GB).
  22. Honestly, what's so bad about the DFH being a PvP drop? It isn't like it's the Holy Grail of Helmets out there, you know -- there's at least 2 I can think off of the top of my head that would get used over it in most situations (Slayers helm and Neitiznot helm, if you were curious). This also makes PvP rewarding, so players that actually participate can't really be upset that they didn't get anything of value. Now, make one of the Corporeal Beast's shields a PvP drop and I'll raise hell. That should be a true boss reward. Although I haven't killed as many as you, I completely agree with you. I've killed 100s and I regularly kill the odd 5 or 10 just in hope for a DFH. Now some Pkers kill a few people and get that drop that I've spent hours trying to get  That sounds about right. Consider drops, like Dragon Platelegs, Chains, Skirts, etc., and players that spend half of their entire career (no exaggeration) trying to get a drop, then someone comes along and gets it on the next try.
  23. My guess is that this proves that PvP is nothing more than a side-activity; something non-vital to the typical 'Scaper. Also, those that consider/call others "pixel huggers" and what-not, who cares? If they don't want to risk anything, they don't want to risk anything, so they'll be loafing around the same bank that you are. :P The community has changed, I'll give you that - it's changed in such a way, it has no tolerance for the attitude of most PKers. The truth there is self-evident.
  24. 1) On any machine I've been on (Windows, Mac, Linux), Java's always had high CPU usage. It's honestly to be expected. 2) Flash has always been poorly supported for Linux. Blame Adobe for that. 3) It's not hard to find fglrx from the repositories, nor is it hard to activate it. 4) If you didn't get fglrx, it's no surprise that anything relating to graphics-intense applications won't work. 5) What did you use? Unless you're an avid gamer, there's a replacement for 88% of Windows software out in the repos, if you take the time to look. 6) Wine is not failsafe or stable. You're using it at your own discretion.
