Dragon Claw's Demise
@ above ^ While some of that may be true, your skipping the main point of my post, which was the interaction between merchants and themselves. The huge abnormal price hikes are not from merchants buying from normal sellers, but rather merchants buying from merchants. When the price reaches "equilibrium" it will be on the rise from its previous advance from normal sellers. This will not happen overnight and merchants will slowly step in the door until its merchant vs. merchant as I explain below. As the price will slowly be on the rise, merchants are not going to "dump" at lowest prices. They will either put at mid, or highest (since the price is already rising). Some may put at lowest, but I guarantee most wont. The Point I was trying to make: Now, the kicker is when merchants start buying from themselves. Merchant clans buy out the stock, raise up the price, and other group does the same. This pushes the price high high well above any normal demand would be for the item. Example is last years rise of the ZGS. It was a rare and junk traded item. Merchants decided to use clans to raise the price. Other merchants got on the band wagon and bought from each other. In one week it rose from 30m to 60m, and then was un-tradeable on the G.E until it crashed. Its a repeat of the same concept. As for the G.E. System, I do blame junk trading on the clan merchants, because it is a direct result of their manipulation. Merchants buying from merchants creates a FALSE demand for an item in the G.E., one that should not normally exist. If this did not occur, prices in G.E. would fluctuate according to the real demand/supply of an item and junk trading would not occur. Because a false demand is made, prices become so askew that players need "junk" to justify an equal trading, because merchant clans put the price out of the range it should normally be in. That is a fault of the G.E. system yes, but it is also the fault of the merchants for manipulating prices higher (or lower) than they should be. Its actually the opposite. It's because the G.E. follows all the market fluctuations, including the "false demands" set by merchants buying/selling from merchants. False demand/Supply = False price = No use of the G.E. = Static Price = Junk Trades Jagex need to put caps and limit the number of higher level items even more in trading such as buying 1 GS per day, but that's another story for another topic. Aside Claws are to good of a PvP weapon to crash low G.E. If they do crash in price on the G.E. people will just go to junk trading again, and the cycle will repeat itself. If they are un-buyable high on the G.E. people junk trade low, and they turn into a party hat scenario. Either situation, once they go on sale through the G.E., they wont be there for long before clans either take the price out of control, or its pushed down and they need junk to be traded again.

Dragon Claw's Demise
claws are also leaving the game due to people using it at pvp and dieing with it. because it is effective at pjing, the lucky players who can afford claws brings it without risking millions on street price. What is their General Store price? Do they not protect over many PvP items (rune/scimitars/etc)? It's high alch price is is 50k. It protects over the standard pk gear, (rune legs, plate, helm of neitznot) but it doesn't protect over a d scim, whip, or even d long. [/hide] Well there you have an obvious con. And many pjers I see with claws use Ahrims + Ice blitz + claw specs, so if they die, good fight. Ahrims actually only alchs for about 30k on the most expensive parts. So I believe claws keep over them, which is why they are so wildly used with arhims instead of plain mystic, aside from mage bonuses for the blitz spec combo. EDIT: Actually, taking another look, Ahrims only alchs for 30k, while mystic alchs for like 70k, Why is that? O.o That would explain why people use ahrims instead of any other mage armor.

Dragon Claw's Demise
Claws will follow the same path of any (useful) items on the G.E. They will crash eventually, due to merchants, but that is still a long way off. The way it will happen: - Claws will continue to rise until they reach the "market price" of junk traders. - Once it reaches "market price" The claws will all suddenly be sold in G.E. making the G.E. price skyrocket. - Merchants will see this and start to buy them pushing the price up very high (Anyone recall the ZGS [bleep]e to 60m?) - One or a few merchants will start to dump them at very high prices, this leads to panic, everyone tries to sell. - The price in G.E. cant keep up with the speed of people selling for lower prices, people start to junk trade them for lower prices. - G.E. Stops being used for selling and they become Junk trade only with a super high G.E. price. It will take months if not longer for them to finally settle down to a natural price. Think how long GS's have been out in the game, and their more common, and STILL not stable? I wouldn't count on anything being stable with these for a long time either.

Logout Timer Increase 13-Jan-2009
Same issue happened to me when WGS came out. It has something to do with them changing the graphics coding. Had to end up re-installing my graphics card drivers. Looks like great updates though! :D

best way to farm?
http://tip.it/runescape/?page=farming_guide.htm#fruit That shows all the fruit tree patches. I suggest doing as many of them as possible. Fruit trees are typically alot cheaper than normal trees per xp, simply because they take longer to grow. But if you are not worried about time, I'd just do the highest fruit tree you can until you get to curry trees. It may take a little longer than doing normal trees, but saves a lot of money in the long run. Unless of course, money isnt an issue, then just plant the highest levels of all your herbs, trees, and fruit trees.

God Wars Dungeon - Just a small topic about GWD nowdays
Runescape drops have been and always will be based on luck. For example: say the drop rate of any hilt is 1/200 or .5% That means every time you get a drop you have a .5% chance for a hilt drop. Each drop does not carry over to the next, so every drop has the same chance as the last for a drop. Regardless if you have had 10,000 drops or 1 drop, your next drop chance would be .5%. The 1/200 is a theoretical average(based on if the world was perfect). It is NOT an average that says it is common to get 1 hilt in 200 drops. Rather, it says there is a 1/200 POSSIBILITY to get one. And the possibility is based solely on luck of the draw. I have sarad with teams in the past, one trip lasted us 6 hours, and we got nothing but a shard. So its really all based on luck, as is everything. Sometimes you have bad luck and dont get a drop for 10,000 kills. And the ROW increase % is so small, you'd need to test it with hundreds of thousands of samples to prove it was working. Say you got 10 drops while using the ROW, how do you know that was the ROW providing the increase, or simply a increase of random luck? You cant prove it so you cant state with fact it was the ROW unless you conduct a HUGE sample size. If something gives a 5% increase, you cant do 10 drops and say because 2/10 drops were good instead of 0/10 the 5% helped. You need more samples to prove your correct and its not just luck of the draw.

Dragon scimi Versus Dragon long
Ok, but your going to do less damage and get less XP and drops. Most RS players would rather get faster XP\drops then hit more often and harder. its a phycalogical thing though, if it seems that i am doing very little damage i start waning to train less and less, but if i see myslef doing 30's i will be like "wow cool this is fun! i shold do it more" ...see my point Not really, a quick glance at the XP\hour will show that your getting significantly less XP, something that usually turns off most people. Yes, dds is far superior to d long. D claws is far better then them and significantly better then AGS, though. claws aren't that great, brunokiller can own people with his blitz/ags madness. I have seen plenty of specials to know that it is overrated. a cheap dds can easily do high damage. gmauls can do high damage. [/hide] I've done 16 hours with claws, or about 600 specs, and at least 8 times that with AGS. I've spent literally dozens of hours with blitz\ags spec combos. D claws are superior to AGS; they are more accurate, have a higher max (and thus a higher average hit), and hit twice as fast. But did you test them before, or after they were nerfed? Because their accuracy is not what it used to be when they came out. There is a reason people are trying to sell them with party hats to get rid of them you know.. On topic: Ignoring any weapons aside from the scim and long and negating specials, scim is going to be faster on a xp/hr, but PvP a long is going to be a better option. The dragon long special doesn't always do major damage, but when it does, it hurts. Ive seen them hit 40+ before, and they can prove to be useful in certain situations. Scim spec is ALMOST uselss in PvP, and PvP ko's are pretty much all about specials(Unless you have a godsword of course). Of course whip and dds reign supreme, but the OP didnt include those, so they arnt really part of the discussion.

Torso is NOT better then Adamant
It's still not false. If you want to get a platebody, like many threads in H&A are about, you will get more XP from getting an adamant chainbody then a fighter torso. But it is false. 1 to 1, discounting the way you get either item, torso IS beter than addy. comparing the 2 items side by side the torso is better, and will get mroe exp FACT. Actually not 100% fact(regarding the fact you get more xp). The torso only gives +4 strength which alone is not enough to increase your max hit. The max hit will only increase under certain circumstances where +4 str puts you over the bracket for a max hit increase. As someone mentioned before you need +6 or +7 str bonus addition to increase your max hit by 1. So consider that in your argument as well, that sometimes in some circumstances, the torso's offense +4 stats will not increase your max hit, and the only stats that function are its defensive stats. Considering your in the situation where the +4 bonus does nothing: Rune > Torso > Addy

Adamant is NOT better than Torso
Nope. If you are being really efficient you should use the bronze daggers, cause like it takes time to get godsword. Bronze daggers are obviously better. The expierience you'd get from a Godsword over a bronze dagger far outweighs the time it takes to get one. And the Whip is better than the Godsword for training. kthxbai. But you also forgot to factor in the time of having to get level 70 attack for a whip and 75 for a Godsword :P So clearly a bronze dagger is more efficient because you can use it at level 3, right? right??? Anyways, according to the tipit calculator: http://tip.it/runescape/?page=max_hit_calc.htm Unless its formula is wrong, putting a fighter torso on and taking it off shows the exact same max hit. Soo.. if that is correct a torso doesn't actually even raise your max hit at all? Either way, Rune > Torso. Whats better, hitting 40 instead of 39 or having more defense to make your opponent miss and hit 0 instead of a 39? Defense is <3.

January 6th 2009 - In Pyre Need
And to anyone who says Phoenix is not a good combat familiar.. Eat this: Scroll Max has been seen to hit up to a 50!
-
January 6th 2009 - In Pyre Need
Aside from the XP nerf, the Phoenix is still a very good combat familiar for its level. Its got 2 major advantages. 1) It hits decently high for its level. I brought one to Bork to test it out. It hit a 20! That's pretty decent for a level 72 familiar. 2) It uses magic based damage that can hit from distances. Most players in general combat use melee based armor. Thus meaning Pheonix's are going to be more effective vs. Players as you can melee/range while your Phoenix mages, covering the majority of the triangle. Its obviously not extraordinary in PvP, and has no reason to be, its still good none the less. I can see it being used at places like castle/clan wars, and other PvP situations where combat level doesn't matter. I dont see it being used in PvP worlds though, as it would need to be in a multi combat area, which is dangerous on its own, aside from the fact it raises your combat.

Half Keys
I agree with you SP, I always get more loops than teeth. I have noticed I get them a lot more from slayer monsters rather than other typical monsters. So in that sense I have noticed getting them more frequently, but @ the OP: I don't think their drop rates have changed. But 7/10 times I get a loop vs. a tooth half.

Making the General Store useful again?
The reason general stores are no longer used is not due to prices, and making a 80% less than G.E. price wont fix it really, it has to do with accessibility. Before the G.E. EVERYTHING was sold in large quantities or even amounts. If you wanted to sell coal, you'd go and sell it in amounts of 1k, 2k, 3k... You wouldn't be able to sell 829 coal because nobody wanted to do the math to figure out a funky number. Instead people would sell their core (1k, 2k ect..) amount to players, and general store any extra left off, or something that wasn't worth the time selling, such as unstrung sapphire amulets. The Grand Exchange gave accessibility for things with a uneven amount and items that had very little market such as sapphires. That is what made general stores un-used. It really had nothing to do with the prices, it was more than the Grand Exchange made everything sell able, even junk. I don't really see this as a problem, but I guess if you wanted to, you could have all the general stores be able to SELL and BUY items at the lowest G.E. Price. This would do a lot in getting the "Junk" out of the economy, because everything would be "sell able" and potential give you a "sale" for finding an item at the lowest G.E. price instead of medium or high. But really, the G.E. is a much better improvement than the old shop/selling systems ever were.

Creating new life in old places... But how/where?
I think part of the problem too is simply teleports. There are plenty of regions on the map that have potential, but the problem is RS's current travel methods. ALL of the basic spell book spells are in a small squeezed location around the center of the map. The only way to get far away on the edges of the map is by numerous quests, and even then, traveling is quite difficult (such as switching to lunar or ancients for teleports) I think a few of the jewelry should be re-done to expand the locations we can easily travel. Examples I have are below Ring of Dueling 8: Castle Wars Clan Wars Al Kharid Duel Arena Bounty Hunter Games Necklace 8: Burthrope Games Room Barbaian Outpost Stealing Creation Trouble Brewing (After Cabin Fever) Amulet of Training 6: (Sapphire & Spun Willow Root) Blast Furnace Tears of Guthix Temple Building (After Shades of Mort'ton) Amulet of Diversions 6: (Ruby & Spun Willow Root) Circus Location Phoenix Lair Observatory Larry Amulet of Fire 4: (Onyx & Spun Magic Root) Recharged at Fight Caves for 2k tokuul. (1k with karajima gloves) Fight Caves Fight Pits This not only helps reach far out locations, but gives uses for items like tree roots, which helps farming/crafting all in one.

Has Jagex Really Done All They Could?
Keep in mind that WoW only had lawsuits against HUGE RW companies. That not including all the small ones out there. How do you lawsuit a small company of 50 people somewhere in the world, if you don't know where they are, and if their government wont even allow them to be punished. Not every country in the world as the same laws as the UK or US. Just because it might be illegal to run a RWT company in UK/US dosent mean its illegal to do in other country's, which lies the problem. How do you sue a company which isnt doing anything illegal in their country and is impossible to find? You cant... And @ the OP: Don't trust numbers on those sites on how well their business is doing. I can say: I've sold 200 cars at my car dealership this week! Their selling so fast and better than everyone elses you should come and buy one today! You have no proof that I didn't sell 200 cars this week, so you cant prove me wrong. But that dosen't mean I actually sold 200 cars. RWT companies are not obligated to tell the truth, and will lie to increase their profits. Jagex has done all they can, and they are doing a awesome job taking care of the problem best they can. There will ALWAYS be rwt. But as long as 90% of its gone, there isn't a problem.

secondary items for phoenix?
Well considering we need to do the mini game to MAKE the phoenix after completing the quest: And looking at the phoenix mini game image: I think its safe to say, you will need to burn some logs on the phoenix alter to receive some phoenix ashes which will be the second ingredient. Because its a Dis&Div mini game, it will only be available once a day/week, so you wont be able to mass produce them.

Creating new life in old places... But how/where?
Grapple shortcut from Al Kharid to the Abandoned mines. This speeds to travel to everything in the eastern side of the map, and might make it more lively.

2nd January 2009 - Behind the Scenes 2009 // January
Jagex don't always choose logical options But that's not the point. The point is, what i said. It wont be safe spots only because it wont need to be. As someone mentioned above, the combat anti-log out device works differently than the normal log out. If you are in combat and dc (stop pinging back to the server) the game initiates a 30 second auto logout EVEN if you are in combat. I noticed this once in a pvp world. Someone I was fighting logged WHILE i was fighting them. They d/c'ed, the timer kicked in, and they disconnected while in combat 30 seconds later regardless of the combat situation. So the 5 min timer wont really increase your chances of being killed in a combat situation upon d/c at all. It will only increase the chances a random will get you, which wont matter anyways because when you d/c the client disconnects you upon loss of ping replys. So the 5 min timer wont hurt anything really. If you get in combat from a random right before you d/c, the game will auto log you 30 seconds later after the pings stop regardless. So 5 minutes is a good thing  As for updates, looks like a great year, and a good month. I cant wait for them to update minigames : I got a bunch of good ideas for those.

My first levels of the new year: Not bad levels to start off with :

Your least favourite update of 2008.
I see so many people say "PvP worlds because I don't pk" yet I don't really understand why. I know alot of people dont pk (including myself) but the pvp update was one of the most important updates this year no matter what side of the game your playing. PvP made slayer drops worth more, potions worth more, food worth more, armor worth more, I could go on for awhile. It made skills like smithing almost profitable again. It gave the boost rs needed to get out of its downward spiral. You may not notice the extra 10gp here or 50gp per item there, but in the long run we are much better off with PvP even if you don't pk at all. That being said, I think the worst update this year was gnome copters.I understand Jagex did it to give f2p a taste of members, but I think this was a silly way to do it. They could have just installed viewing orbs on members worlds for f2p instead. I almost never see people around there anymore, and feel like it could of been time better spent on something else. But not to focus on bad things, 2008 was a great year, and I think 2009 will be even better.

What are you hoping for in 2009?
Mages are supposed to get owned by rangers ;) Yes, but not melee'ers who just slap on d'hide and keep meleeing. You should switch to melee offense if they put on d'hide, but as mystic has 0 melee defence and black d'hide has.. a fair ammout, you are at a serious dis-advantage hybriding in mystic. Easily solveable though, all you need to do is raise the melee defence of mystic to that of black d'hide. So if they put on d'hide, you are on par with their defences giving a fair fight, and also giving magers that little boost vs. meleers which they have complained about for a long time. Since theres 0 range def, rangers could still tear them up, which they should.

I was just doing my daily Bork and to my surprise this popped up.. I'm shocked. I wasn't aware he dropped them. Ive killed him hundreds of times, this is the first Ive ever had one from him. Odd that it showed up by itself. Makes me wonder if he drops other things such as keys or left halves. Looks like a level 3 clue, guess that means yay for firelighters? lol
