  1. I personally believe that it will lead to a lot more problems, basically to the tune of: "Mod Mmg promised that the 150th quest would be coming out this month, where is it?" "Mod Mmg promised that Bounty Hunter would be coming back this week, where is it?" "Mod Mmg promised..." Players used the BTS as a type of guarantee that such and such an update was coming out. What Mod Mmg is doing now isn't much better than that; since he's the CEO, people will believe that he knows the exact release dates of every update coming. Not good. Not good at all. I kinda see your point, but I disagree. MMG is the CEO and thus works with his teams. Unlike the BTS, he has a good idea of when updates are coming since he can look at the teams progress and base it off that. The BTS was not like that, because it listed upcoming updates regardless if they were ready for not. If the team caught a snag, they would almost be forced to release an update if it was ready or not. MMG is simply giving us a general time period of when updates will be ready. "Sometime this month" is a pretty vague statement. He is not listing weeks like the BTS did. If a team needs to postpone all the updates until the last week of the month, they can now do so. I expect MMG to stay true to his word, but that dosen't mean to take his word so literal. If he says an update is comming this month, it will come this month, but that dosent mean we will have an update every week. If he says an update is comming soon, that dosent necessarly mean it will come this week, or this month. Soon can mean several weeks away...so just be patient. EDIT: Another reason not to take him so literal:
  2. I doubt they'd let you have a display name that was someone else's username. There would be a lot of impersonation if they did and people could pretend to be other people and make them look bad, etc. It sounds like it would be simliar to the IRC nickname system is set up. You could choose from any name that isnt currently in use, and you cannot use someone elses RSN as that is locked by the origional owner. so basically like trispis said, you could chose a name that isnt owned by anyone to use temporarly as your "screen name" without actually changing the name of your account itself. So not everyone will be cooldude1337, and nobody can use that name except cooldude1337 himself. At least thats how I assume it would work anyways.
  3. People will have to sell for the fair market value. Yup, and the item prices in G.E. will go to where they should be. The more people that use the G.E., the more correct it becomes. Instead of just saying "no more junk trades", like the person said above they are giving people the option to get rid of it. Over time it will be a very very good thing.
  4. I'm all in favor of a new skill with creative ideas, but the reason why I'm against sailing/exploration is this just doesn't sound like a skill. To me the randomly generated areas sounds more like a mini game rather than content for a whole skill itself. A skill is something that isn't just used in one spot or in one little area, but something that is used across the entire map, usually in many different locations and ways. Sailing/exploration to me sounds more like a mini game where its in a small localized areas, and honestly sounds like a glorified version of Treasure Trails. The concept is just to localized in content to be a full skill. I do think it would make an interesting Mini game however. I feel we have plenty of potential to improve on other skills before new ones are added. Thinks like new trees, new bows, new ores, new runes, new spells, we have plenty of things that need improving first.
  5. More Progress [hide=92 Smithing][/hide] [hide=93 Smithing][/hide] [hide=Pro SC Points]125k Points on a combat world :P My personal best so far. [/hide]
  6. That reminds me of an old quote I had:  I'm a Summon Noob and also a Defense noob. And proud to be both :
  7. Q) How often do you intend on releasing Development Diaries? A) Mod Mark - Whenever the developers feel like they have something to say. Think of them like a blog youd post on a blog if you felt like you had something you wanted to share. DDs will be the same. If they were to release a DD every month, there wouldn't of been a reason to get rid of the BTS. Really its just Jagex's way of saying: We decided we want more time to go through updates to make quality over quantity. We also don't want people to take advantage of upcoming updates like what happened with the broken pickaxes price before the random event change. Basically in other words. 1) Updates with more quality 2) No people taking advantage of future updates 3) Nobody getting false hopes about an update. An update is what it is when its released. That's why it was changed.
  8. Just curious, where did you read that at? I was under the impression by the statement "random frequency is based on your total level and how often randoms are completed correctly", that the lower your total level the more randoms that would occur. Anyways, at the OP post: There is a difference between "AFK" training and simply not watching the screen. "AFK" training is when you leave your computer for a long period of time in an aggressive area in a way to stay logged in while gaining massive experience. Not watching the screen is simply looking away for a minute or two while doing another activity (such as reading the forums). This form of "afk'ing" IS allowed, and Jagex has said it is permitted. Not advised, as a random might get you, but its not against the rules. As for Botting, that's what our randoms are for. They are designed to bring you to a place only a physical person could get out of. Randoms are not really designed to aim at people who are simply not looking at the screen for a short time. They are designed to disable programs and people who are not physically at their computer for a long period of time. They aren't really designed as a "punishment" to kill you if your not paying attention, just to stop you from gaining any experience until you do pay attention. The random change really doesn't effect much as you still have to pay attention either way to continue playing the game.
  9. Its not just about high levels, or low levels. Its all about how they present themselves. You have to look past what a person is doing, and at the reason why they are doing it. For example: The OP in that post simply posted that he was excited to getting his first million. That's a good achievement and I wouldn't have a problem, except he/she placed it specifically in the General Discussion forum so that more people would see it. Basically they wanted attention for getting something, instead of placing it where it belonged. If someone had posted how they made their first Billion, I would of felt the same way as I do about someone making a post about their first million. By human nature, people are competitive. If you post an achievement, you have to expect another person out there to post how they achieved better. Its just human nature to want to be better than someone else. Could people go about it a little nicer? Maybe, but posting something like that in an area just so more people could see is just asking for trouble.
  10. Making Progress [hide=]I had to include this too :P [/hide]
  11. I think this update was great, and all that was needed for this week. Small little updates that make a world of difference in everyday game play. Sometimes I feel like players don't realize how spoiled they were with Jagex's past updating. Only a few years ago, players would be lucky if they received one updating a MONTH. Nowadays players are update hungry and complain even if an update is on a Tuesday rather than a Monday every week. I think you should be grateful for getting any updates at all, as most online MMORPG's don't update even half or 1/10 times as often as RuneScape does. We don't really need a Godsword and a Huge Quest/Minigame every single week, as all those updates overwhelm us over time. But some of you are complaining just that, that we don't get a new Godsword and Minigame every week. There are millions of activities in RuneScape to do. Don't limit yourself just to New Updates to keep you satisfied.[/rant]
  12. I bet the PvPers are going to love that! No more dropping items to pick them up later after you die.
  13. I do think they will give us a Dev Diary this month, they might just be waiting until their update this week/next week to release it. As part of the new system, we may not be getting any updates in one week, and 2 updates another week, so don't expect to see an update every monday-tuesday. We might not get one until next week. As for this month I think the Bounty Hunter updates are on the top of their list, and I assume we will see that update first this month. Regarding the 150th quest, I don't think we will see it for awhile. The CE postbag hints at a quest involving Bandos, and possibly GWD, which sounds like a pretty large quest. According to the letter it is to be released sometime around Raktuber (April 20 - May 23). It sounds like the end of the Zanik/goblin storyline which sounds fitting for #150. We'll just have to wait and see. Other than that, Jagex said they will be spending more time now improving current mini games and other things than adding totally new content, so expect this month to be more "tweaks" than full pledged new content. Sidenote: The did not kill the BTS, it is simply in a different format for the Dev Diaries. Instead of using the BTS saying A, B, and C are this month and D, E, F are next month, Dev Diaries will simply say expect A, B, D, and F to be one of the many upcoming updates within the next 1-2 months. We will still get previews, but instead of being just one month in advance it will be more than a month in advance.
  14. While the BTS were nice, DD's are going to be better in the long run. Sure we might have a few weeks now until the DD's get into full swing, but once they do we will be getting a preview not only of this month but several months in advance, which will be better. Just have to be patient :D
  15. I hate to say it, but merchant clans are really only half the problem. The other part of the problem is the large volume of players, like the OP, who feel like their being "devalued" or gaining profit when items which they currently own fall or rise. People who see an item going down and sell thinking they can buy it back at a lower price "making" money only make the situation much worse. And there are a large number of people who do this. Because of the way the G.E. is set up, any time there is some sort of trade system in addition to the G.E. prices will be slightly off and will be much easier to manipulate. But if Jagex start basing the G.E. off uncompleted offers and not just the completed ones (offers stopped by G.E. trading limits are not classified as "uncompleted offers"), we could see a decline in merchant clan control in the G.E.. The same could also be said if somehow the player to player trade was removed and replaced with only G.E. transactions. P.S. this is what Jagex has to say about "clan merchants": Jagex has stated in the past that clans "deceiving" others into purchasing items are against the rules, but a group of people all buying the same item is not, since Jagex feel the item is being manipulated they will simply change the price themselves. Is it fair? not really, but being in a merchant clan isn't *against the rules*. PSS. I don't like merchanting and never have tried it, but like the others above have said, merchanting has risks in which you can lose money, while manipulation does not.
  16. Yes, there is. While that's not *technically* against the rules, it often opens doors to things that are against the rules. Some people take that opportunity to get on other players account to help them "trade" items from one account to another, which is against the rules. Also, Its almost impossible for Jagex to tell the difference between a RWT transaction and a friend sharing items with his friends. They'd rather not take the chance of it being RWT even if it was under good intentions. Enough people use CS or LSP these days, im sure the number of RWT players present in the BH area is far more than legitimate players giving gifts, especially during the late hours of the night. Looking at the new BH rules, as long as you already kill your targets not much will really change for players, other than being matched up with an opponent more like yourself.
  17. that would be very detrimental to people that solo bosses I agree, however I do think LS worlds should be increased in numbers. There are alot more people out there that LS compared to the ones that don't, and LS teams crash non-LS worlds anyways so I don't see much of a difference. If anything, adding a few more LS worlds would benefit the Solo'ers more, as teams would be less likely to crash non-LS worlds. @Sir Hemen This is not meant to a flame as I don't expect a response to it. It is only my personal opinion. If you don't like the direction the game is going, simply don't play the game anymore. Just except things how they are, and don't complain about it, as it wont get you anywhere but wasting your time complaining about it. Jagex have very strongly said they are moving in an ANTI-RWT direction, if you expect them to change their views because a few people don't like it, it wont happen. They lost a huge user base when the wilderness was removed, but you still feel like your the majority wanting the wilderness back. Most of the people playing now lived through an entire year of BH and no wilderness or PvP worlds. Do you really think if Jagex change BH to drops similar to PvP worlds, over half of RS players will quit? The problem is, you keep expecting Jagex to suddenly change their views and bring back some form of free trade pvp or stop constricting the game to fight against RWT. If you continue to think, dream, or hope for that, you are going to be seriously disappointed your entire time playing Runescape. If you don't like the combat system in Halo 2, you play a different game. If you don't like the battle system in AOE3, you play a different game. If you don't like the minimal updates in Roller Coaster Tycoon, you play a different game. I fail to see what is so different about Runescape?
  18. With all the armor we have out there currently, there is one thing they still have room to improve on for higher level stuff. Armor stats currently reduce accuracy. The higher the stats, the less chance an opponent will hit you. What they should be doing is making high level armor, have only a slight increase in stats, but also start having a defensive strength reduction, making the opponent not hit quite as hard. The Spirit shields use this, but I think it could be extended to higher level armor in a much smaller dose. Things like that would remove the need for a HP cap raise, because while you do have more powerful weapons, you have armor which makes you get hit less damage, rather than just less often. Raising the HP cap is a whole other discussion, but as many have pointed before, it simply wouldn't work since the HP system is all relative to % of HP a weapon can damage. (Eg. If a weapon hits 60/100 HP, changing it to a weapon hitting 120/200 does nothing)
  19. There's one flaw in that: There was no REASONABLE risk of dying. See, in RS, there are set patterns you can follow to keep your character from dying in most situations. That includes Boss areas and PvP areas. It's called training, skills, and knowledge of the system combined with appropriate equipment. In addition, armed with high speed modem instead of a quirky dial-up increases the safety even more. Add on to that team mates that'll bless tombstones reduces chance of losing anything of value to almost zero. That's nice and all, but "just because people can normally survive" means nothing. When you log onto a PvP world, it warns you that you could lose your items. This is not limited to players killing you, or monsters killing you, but also acts of God (Such as power-outage, disconnections, server shutdown, lag, ect..). The warning also includes disconnections and any other form of "lag". That was one of the reasons PvP worlds were not put offline when the other dangerous mini games were disabled. If you go into a PvP world you risk losing your items not just to the normal stuff, but the abnormal stuff such as this event. As for those who lost alot due to people doing it GWD and other dangerous locations, keep in mind the game at any time can crash and you can lose your stuff. This is unforunate, but its one of the risks the game has. If Jagex didnt want you to lose everything, they would make it so everything is kept on death, which is abvously not the case. I hate to sound mean, but people who lost their stuff need to either dust their self off and quit whining, or go play a different game. Jagex wont roll back unless EVERY single person lost like half their bank value. Ya, what happened was unfortunate, but life isn't always fair. If you went to GWD, you risked at least a 1% chance of dying, disconnected or not. Just consider yourself unlucky and get over it.
  20. Oh crap. #-o Chat Massacre. Actually more than likley they just pmed the code to you instead since you were alone woodcutting. I get the feeling it wont be safe to do anything dangerous for most of the evening until a good Samaritan comes forward and tells Jagex what the code is... The longer this goes on, the higher chance we will have a rollback, since it has effected almost every person playing.
  21. [hide=Myweponsg00d] [/hide] Wont work. All you do there is change RWT from selling gold at 10$ per 1M to RWT selling yellow 10 tokens for 10$.. All you change is the currency. If anything that would cause more RWT to occur. The only Idea I can see is make it so you receive 20-70% of your opponents loot depending on your PvP score. How the score is generated should also be altered with a few activities that RWT might do to lower PvP scores, such as killing the same person many times, or receiving little/no damage during a fight, or killing a person with over 2m in items which are lost. Also, the drops would contain 5 bonus items, 4 being food and one bonus item drop. The bonus items would depend on your PvP score as well.
  22. yes  It was supposed to be that way. (By removing some "random types")All they were really changing was making it so randoms which required interaction, such as the sandwich lady asking for you to pick bread, couldn't interrupt combat. NOTHING is more annoying than having the sandwich lady ask you for bread while your in the middle of killing the KBD... The random "change" was simply to make you teleport to a location to do the random instead. I thought everyone knew that? :?
  23. What I would really like to see with this.. Is the Miasmic spells changed. 1) Miasmic spells would only have a 50% chance to slow ONLY melee attacks 2) Miiasmic spells could be cast WITHOUT the Zuriel staff. Only the Zuriel staff can auto-cast the spells. This update alone would cause a huge demand for soul runes. [/dreamforagoodupdate]
  24. Is melee overpowered? No. Is melee faulty on the way its based compared to the triangle? Yes. Assessment of Accuracy's: Range Accuracy = Range level + Range Armor/Weapon Bonuses - (Opponents Defense+Range Def Bonus) Magic Accuracy = Magic level + Magic Armor/Weapon Bonuses - (Opponents Defense+Magic level+Magic Def Bonus) Melee Accuracy = Attack level + Weapon Bonuses - (Opponents Defense leve+Defensive Bonus) As you can see, Melee is the only combat type out of the three that depends only on the Skill level and Weapon Bonuses for accuracy. This allows melee players to wear any armor type while meleeing without any loss of accuracy, which makes the way its compared to the others faulty. If melee was based partly on the attack level and partly on offensive stats which would be given to melee armor, that alone would solve 90% of the problems with the combat triangle being off scale. Players could still hybrid, but would have reduced accuracy penalties for it. A meleer switching from rune armor to dragon hide would suffer the same accuracy loss as a ranger switching from dragon hide to mystic.
