Don't you know the game runs natively on 640p? Not even 780, but 640. It's false advertising to a degree, but at least it should explain why the game's visuals are relatively crap, compared to games like Gears. OF course, it can be scaled up to 1080p, which would be the smart thing to do. It's just a letdown from the amazing graphics the trailers sported.

Thank Bungie for their presence of mind, I won't have to beat the game in all three difficulties, just legendary to unlock the points for the others as well. But as is custom with me, I beat the game solo on normal, and then coop the legendary. Really, it's just boring otherwise, plus the new scoring feature makes the coop vastly entertaining.

I dunno, gears' campaign stuck me as overly repetitive and just general duck-spray-move-repeat scenario; rather tiring. To be honest, gears' coop is what makes it shine, not the 1-player action. The multiplayer isn't bad either, if that's what I sounded like i said. It's great, just doesn't really trounce halo's in any aspect I can think of. Counterstrike is just another popular fps mod. Starcraft is another rts. Wow is just another mmo. Final fantasy is just another Japanese rpg. And of course, Halo is yet another fps. I think my point is evident here. A game doesn't have to reinvent the way we think, it just has to put all the elements of videogaming together in good unison to be entertaining. Beyond this it's your opinion, but imo, Halo does it rather well. Uh...fanboys don't spontaneously spawn into existence. There's a reason, like them liking the game. And I honestly don't understand why people dismiss the entire halo fanbase as being trivial, that that they're all just fanboys. Sales numbers don't lie people. I mean, would Wow or Starcraft be hardly impressive if it wasn't for their massive following? I'm not saying the fanbase dictates the game's quality, but it sure is a good pointer for it. And it's not just the fact that a lot of people play Halo, but people have fun playing it. Fun, remember that people? As opposed to a second life?

I hate to turn this into a Halo defense thread, but whatever. 5-6 enemies, as opposed to the 1 that you get in call of duty. Jumping, grenades and such are basics of fps's. There are plenty of other things in halo worth mentioning that add to the running and gunning part. If they can headshot you while turning around, but you can't kill them even with the element of surprise, whose fault is that? But really, halo is an unreal-style boomfest. You die a lot more in the average halo match than lets say, a call of duty match. I don't get why some people say there's too much health/shield in halo and others say there's too little. Opinions i guess. And as for Gears...It's really good of course, but it's got very little on Halo, to be honest. I mean, don't even get me started about "online experience" and "underlying plot". And really, who wants to play in the tiny 4-man teams anyway? You might as well stick with battlefield 42 or something. And the first person to say "gears is more innovative/revolutionary than halo" will promptly receive a wedgie. :evil:

Although I am no ps3 fan myself, I do find it strange that Ace combat is not only going over to the 360, but is being exclusive there! Rather stupid move, since most of the fanbase would be with Sony. Ah well. Is it possible to just play the game with the normal controller? I'd rather not lug around a massive expensive joystick to just play one game.

For games, try these in order of potential: Halo 3, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4 Gears of War, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Rock Band, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata. Those are the 10 (excluding Halo 3) best games that came to mind. Mind you, there are dozens of good games that will appeal to you, just a matter of looking up what you want. Get the play/charge kit, the cheapest one you can find. The air cooler is also good, but its loud and not very necessary. Look up the various wireless apparels too.

Mmm...when is OB release again? October 10th, but you can play the beta of Team Fortress 2 when you preorder it right now. That's for PC. It's sometime in December for the 360 I believe. And i preordered the collector's edition back in April or March. I was afraid of the stores running out of preorders, with the wild rumors of 4 mil reserves and all that back then. But I don't regret it. Pity me! I'm not allowed to play videogames until the weekend...I'll just stare at the Chief till then.

Someone may have read up on the ending to the American-Japanese War but they sure haven't read up on one of the main factors that caused WWII in the first place, namely, the Treaty of Versailles. The whole of Europe (and the U.S., actually) forced Germany to accept peace on condition they had an army of a restricted size. It created a feeling of resentment amongst normal German citizens, and just gave Hitler a manifesto to get into power. Do you seriously think the Japanese, especially in the light you've portrayed them in, would have reacted much differently to you? Signing peace with a country in war-time isn't giving them a "slap on the wrist". As you said, collateral damage had already been inflicted on the Japanese infrastructure. They'd already lost enough. You could just as easily have pushed them into surrender through a coastal amphibious invasion than by dropping a bomb which literally frazzled thousands of innocents civilians on the spot. Ah yes, an invasion, instead of forcing the japenese to think that we had the unlimited power to level thier country, lets just send a couple million US and British troops to die in an invasion that nearly every japenese would have fought against. what you dont seem to realize is that the imperial army of japan was giving thier own civilians SPEARS to charge GIs with. millions of japenes civilians would have been sloughtered, along with thousands of Americans. Once we landed they never would have thought about surrender. Had we allowed ourselves to accept thier terms of surrender we would have left ourselves open to another attack by the japenes. i seriosly doubt they would have been that dumb but in 1945 thinking they were still a massive liability. "Trading 80,000 lives"? What makes you think they were your lives to trade? They were innocent Japanese civlilians - what on earth makes you think you have a moral right to target them just because it will force them into surrender? And hardly any Americans would have died. Yes, Japanese soldiers literally threw themselves into suicide attempts with the sole purpose of taking someone else down, but surely isn't that what all soldiers in war are in effect doing? they're all dying for their own country, albeit in different ways. It was not America's right to decide that the death of 80,000 innocent lives in trade for the preservation of another imperialist country between you and the Soviet Union is the lesser of two evils. Don't pretend as though Japan appreciates you for dropping those bombs when there are still thousands of people even today suffering from the radiation released after those two bombs. Read up on thier preperations. they were ready for an assault. thier civilians were being trained in how to kill as many americans as possible before they died. hundreds of thousands of americans would have been killed. saying that hardly any would have died shows that you really have no idea of the military and civilian power japan still controlled. an estimated 100.000 would have become casualties before they even hit the shore. Millions of japenese would have been mowed down in Kamikaze charges. thousands more would have died of starvation in the following months. of the 80,000 killed in the blasts it is doubtful that even a quarter would have survived. If i had to make the choice now knowing full well what would have met my troops had they invaded i would drop those bombs again in an instant. Try a new tact, think about what we could be arguing about right now if we had invaded and not bombed, and we just now figured out that all those millions of lives could have been saved had we used our technology when we had it. what would your reaction be? [/hide] Who says we had to actually invade them? Japan's economy was crumbling, their navy was obliterated, and the only thing in their arsenal was the fighting spirit. Who knows? Maybe if Japan actually discussed peace talks with America through the Soviets, we could have had a proper treaty. And let's say the peace talks failed, and there was no choice left. In this case, Hiroshima would be more than justified, it should be encouraged. But why in the world would we bomb Nagasaki? Especially if we know that Japan is on the losing end of the bargain? Had America waited for a week and listened to a response, we might never had to slaughter the 70k people or so in Nagasaki for no apparent reason.

Ah, heavenly sword...The hack-slash bladeathon. If the comparison of Goddes of War wasn't obvious enough, look at screenshots or perhaps play the demo. In good spirit, Team Ninja has totally ripped of God of War, but these things don't work in a story with a female protagonist. For one thing, Kratos and Nariko wear the same amount of clothes, that is, a loin cloth around the waist. For another thing, they both use two swords, despite the title of "heavenly sword", which is not plural. But don't take my word for it, I never actually played the game. It would probably be in your best interest to get it anyway, being one of the few titles actually worth buying on the ps3 right now.

This explains why the Japanese rpg fanatics view FPS players as "dur I shoots mans". I'm not calling you stupid by the way, just that it's rather conservative, if you can call it that. I mean, how can the camera angle be bad in a shooter? It's always behind you! As for the controls, yeah, it's a change from the average fps, but it's what happens in tactical shooters unlike boomfests like Halo. Note that I'm a halo fan too, just defending Gears.
