Hey, that's actually really cool! I've thought about it a few times, but never got around to actually doing it.

I dislike the game on principle. I mean, they've been trying to get realism and things into the other BF games, and I liked that. Now they're coming out with a wargame that takes mechs on a battlefield seriously?! Jesus, anyone with half a brain and a rudimentary understanding of ergonomics and physics can tell you that a mech is a supremely terrible idea for a realistic military force. All in all, I feel that 2142 is just EA trying to cater for the obscure mech fan demographic more than the gamers it attracts in droves with its current games.

The DRV was a democratic nation by dint of the ICP's base of popular support. Likewise, the RVN was technically a democratic nation, although that is debatable considering US actions surrounding Ngoh Dinh Diem and Nguyen Van Thieu. Oh, wait, sorry. War was never declared on the DRV. My bad. Also, that Wiki page's argument relies heavily upon the logical fallacy of correlation implying causation. Most functional democracies are formed during a period of stability when nobody would want to fight anyway.

My girlfriend and I have discussed it a number of times, and the general consensus seems to be that we don't plan on having kids, even if we plan on living together. Suits me. Being a teacher will force me to interact with young people in varying stages of maturity more than what would be healthy, anyway.

I'll just ignore that since you obviously haven't been around as long as I have. I'm well aware that very little that doesn't have Runescape or a render or any other popular art style gets very few comments. There's a world of difference between Godslayer's handwaving comments and ones like Keiphus, which are actually helpful. Cheers, Keiphus. I'll keep working on that.

I like it. It's a fluent read, and unlike most of the people who post stories here, you've actually built up a decent piece of fiction without resorting to "so this guy made him angry and he killed him in the middle of the street"-type violence. You're keeping the reader in suspense without using anything too clicḫ̩̉̉d, and you've adopted a more or less unique angle to approaching the Runescape world. Keep writing.

It may be easier, but it's part of the problem. If you don't have a good balance between description and action, the story quickly becomes trite and repetitive. When using an existing setting, you still have to describe things, otherwise there's just nothing new to see except "oh, look, there's someone here to kill". The more description you write, the more engaging the story becomes. Confining yourself to the Runescape setting without adding anything new to it is boring, and lumps your work in with everyone else's, instead of making it stand out. Really, what you'd end up writing is just another "go here, kill this" story.

You say it as though the North Koreans have a choice in the matter. It's Kim Jong Il and his government who want the bargaining chip, not the people themselves. Hell, if the people knew anything about the outside world besides what propaganda tells them, they'd have defected to South Korea ages ago. It's the government that wants the bargaining chip of nuclear weapons because it's just so easy for every country around them to impose sanctions or hold back on the food aid.

Face it, it's mostly their parents' fault. This wouldn't have happened if the children had been taught about morality and properly disciplined. If even they had some modicum of supervision, they wouldn't have started a fire to begin with. Also, who were the idiots that allowed minors access to a means by which they can unlawfully start a fire? Now, it's the kids' fault as well. At 12, they would have had enough schooling to know that careless behaviour like that is a Bad Thing. If they hadn't, then they are either fraternising with the wrong people or their school didn't make an attempt to drill some discipline into them. Without knowledge of the school system, I will assume the former. The punishment? Have them all sent to juvie and a long rehabilitation course. Have them then put up for adoption. The parents will be given a stern talking-to and informed that they need to learn how to be parents before having kids. To avoid wasting taxpayers' money, this will all be done at their expense.

If he had followed that while sleeping around, the Baroness wouldn't be dead. 3. The Baron - For being stupid enough to allow a ferryman to operate across one of his castle's defensive emplacements. And for, you know, not having any guards posted close enough to the bridge to keep idiot madmen with knives away while the drawbridge is lowered. Also, if I was in his position in a feudal period, I wouldn't want my wife to go out alone either. He was doing it for her own protection. His only fault is negligence with security. 4. The madman - He's insane. Clearly, he is not wholly in control of his decision-making processes and other faculties. Props for being able to get that close to the castle without any guards noticing, though. He must be some kind of ninja. 5. The friend - If they were really a friend, they'd lend her the damn money. She can pay it back. She's a damn Baroness. The friend's just a tight-fisted jerk. 6. The boatman - Hey, it was his job to charge money. Although he could have just waited until they were on the other side for payment. It's the damn Baroness. Doesn't anyone notice her title?

Feh. If I had two and a half grand, I'd have a lot more better things to spend it on that the prospect of getting more money in an MMO.

I think what he means is that you pay the $5 and you get a tradeable ingame item. It's a fair enough system, but there's still the problem of people falling for trade scams.

Okay, let's whip out my list of things you do that violate suspension of disbelief... - You refer to people as having game-mechanical levels - Somehow, the barbarians had superior weaponry designs but inferior metallurgy to the rest of the world, which surrounds them - The gnomes seemingly developed "tanks" instantaneously, and had the industrial capacity to build them without prior notice, nevermind the engineering difficulties they no doubt would have encountered - For some reason, right after helping and being helped by the people of Varrock, the barbarians raided it for food - Gunpowder has its own distinct sound - The two primitive tanks which were designed overnight somehow had the capacity to launch five hundred shots' worth of cannonballs at the same time - The war was somehow stopped in about twenty seconds' worth of dialogue by a child, nevermind that the barbarians just saw more than half of their people die - who coincidentally managed to all fit into one dining hall - Right after being helped by the civilized world against the dwarves, the barbarians up and allied with their genocidal neighbours to invade a city that wasn't even involved to begin with I simply can't bring myself to believe this story, even in a fictional sense. It's just far too unrealistic.

Your "chapters" are a little short. Really, you've got potential to do some very good work, but you're not writing enough to really engage me, and you're wasting it on what is essentially the same old, tired Runescape material, where the protagonists go around killing whoever they feel like without remorse or repercussion. Try to at least deviate away from the game and make the world seem more alive. And to make a note of your title, if you think "nobody reads" your story, scroll down the board next time and have a look at how many stories have 0 comments.

Nice twist on the ending there. You had me thinking "Yep, been there, done that" right through the whole thing. Hangovers aren't nice at all - then BAM there's a hot babe in bed with you. Man, I wish all hangovers had that small consolation. Another solid work by you. Keep it up!

That must really suck. On the other hand, that's. So. Cool. This one time I almost had my hand opened up at fencing... but I've never had anything quite as bad as that. To be fair, though, the tibia is fairly close to the skin. Now, if you had your femur exposed, you'd be more worried. Or probably dead.

Could you maybe elaborate and tell me what's wrong, instead of leaving a vague blanket statement and then expect me to instantly find everything that's off?
