The Great Tip PIC 2006 -- Get ready for 2007 edition

I like this idea, i'll get my picture in soon -
it's crazy how you can look at something and not get it, then you look at it agian and it all becomes so obvious. But I havn't a clue how to read binary, how the hell do you do that?

And that's exactly why we here to laugh at them

so true, I'm sick and tired of people who think high lvl player = only plays rs and ignores life It's just simply plain wrong. I work out at the gym on a daily basis, and even if I don't go out too much I am always wondering what it's like. For me rs comes as a priority when I play games, but not in life. I have things more important than games, like where I want to go for college. The extreme is when they say the person "sits in their mom's basement" but I await the day where I can finally leave home. In the end it's a lot about how they compare you to themself. Like, "I can't possibly do such-and-such in this ammount of time therefore he must have nolifed, OMG YOU ARE A NO-LIFER". Egocentric idiots like that just simply cannot sit down and say "wow, you have done something quite impressive there", these are the same arrogent people who constantly deny the need for a very important skill: Patience. They always claim that it's just clicking and so it's easy. Well patience is a very important skill, and most adults are more patient and so adults that play rs are very efficient, but that does not mean that they only play rs with no ballance in their life.

They rate down for a game just having magic. Would I see a six year old playing harry potter? Accually yes, but by their standards they would not because the game is all occult. They rate games down for being roleplaying games and just being an alternative to life in a magical world. They think it's vicious competition for people to join other religions (MMBN4, double soul religion? Riiiiiight.... I worship the double soul god) Then it just gets completely rediculous because they are so biased. Like the pokemon review where they blame the game for promoting the "Disproved theory of evolution", I use to play pokemon when I was young and I didn't get scared by those cute lil monsters. Then theirs the World of Warcraft review. The guy admits getting addicted and then he blames the game for addicting him!! And if that wasn't enough he goes on about how "god had called out to him several times". That has nothing normal.

IMO, to be a "skater" you need to be on a skateboard not just wear clothes I just have sweatpants or any loose pants, T shirt and my trusty jacket. Preferably darkish colors

I totally agree, the quests in RS are awsome. I find that every quest has something special about it, like Icthlarin's little helper where you start at the end and play as interactive flashbacks. Or even simple quests like murder mystery are special because in murder mystery for example, every player gets a different trail to follow. In terms of quests only, RS > WoW

Party Hats - The Only Tradeable Skillcape?
Solidus_77 replied to r2-pleasent's topic in General Discussion
So basically the phat is an "unofficial skillcape of money". It fits those requirements and proves the wearer has tons and tons of cash. -
I always sell for a bit below the average, maybe the normal price if I have time but never above the price. I hate the anxiety of not knowing when a trade presents itself and then in the end I don't make profit. I like planning and that is why I have gone for 91 rc, because it provides a very predictable and very good money making system. This is also why I absolutely cannot do merchanting for fun even if I'm quite good at selling things at a yard sale IRL.

I am a determined protector. I like that, it fits me. Asian names are more interesting, they tend to have more literal meanings

Being able to repeat steps and get extra exp!? Just stop and think of all the problems that would cause!

Pest Control - Too easy or High-Level update?
Solidus_77 replied to Jake_Corsair's topic in General Discussion
It's used as an efficient method for high lvls in combat. It may be considered "too easy" because people are good at but. For now anyways, it seems that it is helping the higher lvls in the game therefore it would qualify as a higher lvl update, now was it originally created that way or did it sort of happen is a different question. I would say that it sort of happened because the requirements are rather low and lower lvls have to look at statistics before they can realize that it's not a good deal for them. -

I see the difference, what you are looking at is the individual, whilst I am looking at the country as a whole. It is true possibly people in China are living at a lesser living standards but is the American responsable for causing that? The way I could see that happening is the competition between domestic supply and the US's exports to China however China does exercise forms of protection which increases the government's revenue and protects infant industries. That's all just speculation but it is an example as to how they are living below their standards as a result of Americans. All that is concerning the individual, now how about China as a whole? Specifically their governement. They are lending money to America and as a result of this, there is a lot of trade between America and China, but this lending of money mostly affects America's ability to import, meaning the goods it gets from China. The previous example relates to the other direction, meaning America's ability to export. What I mean is that the fact that American's standard of living affecting China's standard of living (for the individual) is not affected by America's imports from China and therefore is not affected by the fact that they are lending tremendous sums of money to America. I am however curious why this is the case? I didn't really justify my point there, apologies for that This is an interesting point for two reasons. First of all I understand your argument much better now when you refer to the individual, which is something I havn't thought much about as I am looking at the country as a whole. The effects of the dollar being worth less as you said, is already being seen. Second of all, looking at an outline of what is happening and this time shifting the focus to the country as a whole America has a budget deficit so they take loans from other countries. Thanks to these loans, America imports a lot from these same countries which is good for them because they need the imports, however (and correct me if I am wrong but I think this is what you are refering to) this means that the budget deficit gets greater and greater and after a while will burst. This is the reason why people are so concerned with the budget deficit, as you said the money has to be paid by someone however in the short term, China (and other countries) are not worried as they are having an increase in their exports. Now the real problem is how do you avoid from this budget deficit to burst? Obviously loans are not the answer but there are things that can be done about this, and this is why I say that the collapsing of the dollar is an unlikely event. Some of these reasons are a bit off topic but they concern the war in iraq as well as the tax cut issues. Some lesser develloped contries have a huge budget deficit that they literally cannot pay off (the intrest rate of their loans exeeds their GDP) so their currency might burst if they can't get help. The US has the largest economy and for that and other reasons, I believe the US will find a solution to solve the problem internally. But for the moment, as far as the creditors of the US are concerned, they have nothing to worry about in the short term Now the debate just boils down to "do you believe the US has the means to pay off it's debt?" Why don't you see the circular reasoning in this though? They are not solving the problem - which is that America is living above it's standards - but only making the problem worse, by continuing to expand their dollar positions. America will care less than us if their dollar collapses, because it will both make their debt expressed in products smaller and because they know that it is very likely that the whole world will end up in a recession too. I see what you mean by circular reasoning, and now you talk about this whole "living standards" issue it's more clear. However you are incorrect in thinking that the US will be less concerned with the dollar collapsing. This will greatly concern the US as a country, not as the individual but as the country. I still argue that the dollar collapsing is a very unlikely event, however a country will suffer if the stability of their currency is dissrupted. If the dollar collapses, what will happen to american firms? They will lose total revenue! This may well affect their ability to hire people. If the dollar collapses, these 2 macroeconomic objectives will be harmed Price stability, because obviously the value of the dollar has derailed Full employment, because firms will be affected in the sence that they will not have the money to hire workers This will harm the US as a whole, from a macroeconomic point of view. Indeed they do have to trust the dollar, since withdrawing in a sudden way like that is simply not an option. -
couldn't you make it more.... interesting? some walking around with a narative is lightyears from being impressive quality

Solidus_77 replied to LGBR's topic in Off-Topic
The idea behind the argument is that the flow goes both ways, in other words there is a return. China is not dependant on the dollar, but in this case the return is advantageous. You can imagine that the goods exported from the US to China have heavy tariffs on them, and my guess is that this is just to increase revenue Interesting analogy, however the scenario we are looking at is a bit different. The 3 people are not on the verge of starvation, but they are choosing to give their food to the american because the american consumes their food at a cost. Without him, the food will just pile up. Sorry if the analogy doesn't follow, the point is that the other countries can still prosper without the need to supply the US, however they choose to do so because it's worth it for them. Economies of scale. This is one of the gains from international trade where the firms do not have enough domestic demand and seek demand on a worldwide scale. This is what China is looking for when they let America borrow loans. They have plenty of resources to keep going themselves and would probably do fine, but they would rather export even more to the US which increases their GDP. Your theories are very valid in my opinion, but they do not accomplish this objective, in fact you seem opposed to the idea of world trade. World trade, in today's world, has become crucial. International trade is practiced by many countries to achieve objectives such as the theory of comparative advantage, spread of modern technology and as I said earlier, economies of scale. In the world, many countries depend on each other and so if the US starts to fall appart, all countries trading with it will be affected. But that is unlikely to happen, same for the scenario of China, Japan and Europe stopping all trade with the US (which would be the equivalent to "throw[ing] the American in the sea" in your analogy), they would lose the benifits from trade and I don't think the WTO would approve of such radical desisions on trade (These countries are all members of the WTO) I agree with that, it shows that the people giving the loan, (mostly China) would lose all that money. Another reason why it's in China's best interest to continue giving loans to the US. There was a very intersting article in the Financial Times about how the US and China could greatly benifit from collaborating. Unfortunately I only have the first part online: -
Yer, I was completely knackered after my first session lol. Much harder playing singles though... double doesn't tire you out as much  I play tennis... that's a workout, a real man's game 8-) . Rock climbing will have you use and excercie every muscle in your body if done correctly Geez.. I've tried those indoor ones, I do okay vertically, but when the rock slants to the point where you're between vertical and horizontal (back to the ground horizontal), I just fall because it's so hard  . Anyways, I was just saying that tennis>badmiton. Inclanation can be a factor, but not the most important. I've climbed a very slanted wall more easily than a vertical run because the vertical run had very few handholds and there was only barely in reaching distance, while the slanted one had plenty of simple and huge handholdes. The trick for slanted runs (often seen indoors) is to always have straight arms and save as much energy as possible. It's not easy when you have to take one arm off to pass the rope through and it's a very different challenge from a run with handholdes that are spread appart. Rock climbing simply rules 8-)

As duke freedom said, that government hasn't a clue about economic theory, not only because they started printing money like that but also when they tried to "fix" the problem with ridiculous solutions like price controls. In my opinion, they would hurt themselves. The reason why China is willing to give such big loans to the US is because they know the US imports a lot (hence why they have a huge trade deficit) and so if the US can't import as much, then the US will stop importing as much Chinese goods which hurts the Chinese ballance of payments. China also has economic growth problems of it's own to deal with which, ironically, the US could help them with -
Only once but it was so fun. The only problem is that the nearest paintball area is about a 3 hour drive and it's so expensive.

"no-lifing" a skill is basically ignoring everything else going on in life to play runescape. Obviously the problem is that everyone sees someone with a skillcape and doesn't see how much effort they put in so they just assume that the person ignored their life just to play runescape. It is annoying when people have a hard time believing that it's possible to play runescape and lead a ballanced life. As for if it's "nerd" or "determination"? Well that depends on the definition of nerd. If nerd means enthusiastic in something then yes it would be, but that's too vague because everyone has some kind of a passion in life.

Putting critisizme aside, you are saying that the timeframe isn't important. That's true in many cases but usually they don't overlook a problem for this long, the only exception would be when people havn't noticed the problem much but that isn't the case for flag holding. There are plenty of rants from people and so I think we can assume that Jagexs knows that this is a much debated issue. For the moment, they have chosen to do nothing about it. If they do or do not change it in the futur is a different story, but only speculations can be done about that. This still doesn't change the fact that flagholding is, in no way, unfair. Different people might like or dislike this strategy but that's all a matter of opinion. As swampjedi said, this is different from other games, and for him this negates all other forms of strategy and people resort to just brute strengh. That's a valid opinion and it makes sence, the game is very different when someone holds the flag but personally I like this method better. For me flagholding encourages teamwork, because the flagholder is as good as dead if he is not surrounded by a good team and also shows the flaws of a disunited team where everyone just races for the flag. Also, the normal CW games can easily turn into a game where a few people are going for the flag, a few other stop them and everyone just fights random people. This is rather boring and yeilds unpretictable results as people just race for the flag over and over again. Flagholding has the person killing the person with the flag at the right time and then hopeing to get a friends to surround him as he becomes the primary target, also I much appreciate having the guarentee of getting tickets. This just shows that people have very different opinions about flagholding, there are obviously people who support it because it's a common strategy and there are also obviously people who are against it. People having different opinions makes sence, and those who dislike flagholding would logically wish it was removed but that does not justify it being a bug, or any form of cheating and gives no "unfair advantage" (it gives an advantage, but not unfairly). It is different from the classic CTF seen in many online games but if it is good or a bad thing is totally arbitrary
