  1. The look on your face must have been the same as mine when I logged in expecting to be at the law company and instead I find myself at varrock west with private chat off and 380k pure ess missing. Then a week later, I have a santa that I hope to use to recover and then I log in back at varrock west with the private chat off missing a lot of valuable stuff (must have stopped the guy in his tracks because I had some valuables still with me but my cash is gone, my santa, etc.... The last straw was then having my account locked and taking forever to get it back (evidently someone messed with the recovery questions). My story has a happy end, after hard work and determination, I ended up getting 91 rc and since then I have never had unfortunate accidents
  2. hence the update of treasure trails that require specific armors to stop the pures in their tracks
  3. If you try to use the emote while in combat, it doesn't work. So this is what happens when you get attacked while performing it i guess
  4. putting it that way, it seems stupid why someone would fall for a scamm, but when it's late, or you quickely have to do a lot of trades accidents happen, it's just a fact of life. But with luring, you can't make a careless mistake in the same manner
  5. Looking at the official rs forum, one of the illegal rants is to rant about the attitude of other players because that's something that cannot be fixed. On tip's rant forums these rants are everywhere, because rants on tip.it are not based on wether or not it's possible to fix so I think people just use this as a way to shout out how much they hate other players/noobs etc... These rants have no discussion and can't really be tacked into much, and usually end in "I just want to vent my frustration". If they can't be made illegal then yes, I agree they should be put aside for rants that acctually have something to do about the game. The debate club is different, it has more constructive comments and acctuall debates, all the other rants don't all fall in one category, there is a "middle-section" of rants that arn't constructive enough to be debate material and yet different from the rants about other players. Basically: debate club doesn't cover it all, player rants need to be all dumped in one subforum.
  6. That is true, and is also probably the reason why luring is very debatable, however the key is decieving the other person. The person makes no intention to hide the fact that they are in the wildy, and the person knows he is going in and is willing to go in. For scamming, on the other hand, the person does not know that he switched the ammount of cash just before trading and when he presses the button he is accepting the item for the ammount before it was traded, not knowing that he was decieved.
  7. I did it with about 82 combat, it's a mage quest really but the use of prayer makes it too easy IMO. This is why I love recipe for disasters, I acctually had to think about how to monsters effectively.
  8. that sounds like luring to me. the problem is that there is no lying involved. The thing with item scamming is that the person is fooled into thinking that they are buying the item and the result is that they are not. With luring, the person is not fooled, he knows very well that he is going into the wildy however he ignores the risk because he believes they are minimal. Taken from this point of view luring is legitimate. The scenario for luring is basically the same for a person going into the wilderness and dieing. It may seem different to us who know the context but put into the perspective of Customer Support, they do not know the conext of what happened and they cannot look at the context for every case to see who is at fault. This is why responding to someone using offensive language because they used it on you doesn't make you innocent. You used offensive language reguardless of the context.
  9. But Firemaking is pure grinding. Smithing at least has a make 5 or 10 option. Don't you think that kind of effort stands out a little? The exp rates per item for smithing are much, much harsher and a lot more cash is required for smithing. Being able to make 5,10,x does tend to make a skill easier however it's one of many factors
  10. they are praising jagex because jagex deserves the praise. There is no question about "ballance", that's just a assumption on your part. Just look at the quest: What's not to like? Cowbells are awsome and this article captures that idea perfectly. This latest quest has been full of them therefore it makes sence to make the article about Cowbells now
  11. they are simply not getting what they want and whine about it. It happens in a lot of cases. Just ignore them, there is no reason to give them what they want.
  12. they usually consist of blue phats randomly found on the ground. Funny thing is in the dream I keep telling myself "is this a dream? No it can't be because I'm concious right now", i fool myself everytime
  13. You mean fletch 1k or so at a time? because it's an annoyance to have to buy the materials over and over again. Saves a lot more time to buy all of it in one go, besides you get the money back afterwards
  14. I did it!!!! \ \ Also, the cape emote is awsome  As a thanks to all you loyal readers, I will make you ANY construction flatpack for you for no extra charge (you still have to provide materials but not the extra cash that people usually ask for) however this will have to be a trust trade. PM me on this forum account if interested
  15. I liked it, there's also the herrings on tree reference from Monty Python, and the dagonnoths are like xenomorphs (especially the eggs) from Aliens. Miscelenia is also filled with Monty Python references However I didn't get the Star Trek reverences :?
  16. but it will cost millions upon millions and will have no return. Do you realize that 2-3 months is how long it takes to get some of the harder ones? Fletching will take you a lot less time and will have almost 100% return same for cooking. All skills have a straightfoward process the problem is acctually doing it hundreds of thousands of times. PS: guilded alter is better.
  17. less that 20k logs left and one more level to go. Will be done by tuesday most likely
  18. You said that. You clearly said yourself that if you remove the rares from the game you are removing a large ammount of gold from the game as well. This is not true and this is what I keep repeating. Listen to me carefully now, ok? Lets say that bob has a party hat that Joe wants. Joe decides he will buy the hat for 50 million GP, and thus a transfer of 50 million GP (the hats market worth) is transfered over to bob for the said hat. Now lets say the next day Jagex decides to take out rares. Joe gets his hat taken away. However, the money Joe paid for the hat is still there and sitting in bob's pocket. Since we can easily asume you do not buy party hats from a shop there MUST be a player to player transaction done these days. When party hats entered the game they were items on the ground, you did not pay gold for them unless you wanted the item from another player. This is what I am saying. The hats themself are worth millions on the market. However, for all purposes of in game when we talk about "removing party hats removes GP from the game" that is simply untrue. It removes an item, nothing more nothing less. The money said players paid for it are still in the circulation of the games economy, thus, nothing happens except players don't have anything to spend their money on = inflation. Do you get it now? Although it is true that not a single gp is being removed from the game, the value of the money itself is being affected. The party hat is being removed, but not the money that would have been payed if it was sold is still there. The money's value has decreased. Does that clear things up? what you had said in the beginning was a bit different, I thought you ment that removing it would remove the general store value but what you meant was that no money is being removed I think. Looking back at that first thing I said it, it was wrong.
  19. The only reason why it's not illegal is because the person in question has to willingly go into the wilderness for the lure to work and have full intentions of doing so. Basically the person is thinking "bah, it's just lvl 1 wildy". He is aware that he is making a trade in the wilderness and is willing to take the risk however he has greatly underestimated the risk. Jagex does give lots of effort to try and warn these people of course, Other than that, it's quite dishonest because the person has no intention of acctually buying the item and wastes a hell of a lot of time for people who have common sence.
  20. Seems like you are missunderstanding, the market doesn't judge by the techincal price, it judges by the economic price. We are talking about th market and so obviously we are using the economic price. The "official price" or price for which it is sold in the general store doesn't account for anything in this case. Just because a game show's a certain value doesn't mean that it is the correct value. It would be great to just call the whole thing off as my missunderstanding but this isn't quite the case. You claim that the value of a certain item is desided by a completely outdated price. Sure, it use to by 2 gp but guess what, prices change over time and 2 gp is NOT the price anymore. When we consider the true price of the item, we are talking about the price where the supply meets the demand. Why does this matter? well going back to what you said before The market does not judge on technical points at all, therefore the 2 gp is completely irrelevant. If jagex changes the price in general stores to 5 mill for party hats it will not change a single thing. That price is completely irrelevant (unless of course it was more than the market, which it never is). The value of an item is the value for which it can be bought or sold in an economy. Nobody can buy a party hat for 2 gp and obviously it's not the economic price. Party hats are worth millions upon millions because people are willing to pay that much. This is their price.
  21. You post this. A party hat is technicly worth nothing. Can it be sold for millions of GP? Yes. But does it actualy have that value? No! If rares would be removed it would simply remove the item, not the cash. The only way to get a rare these days is from a player/player transaction, meaning that that gold for buying rares comes from elsewhere. All it would do is simply get rid of the supply but not the money people paid for it. Honestly though, I would watch calling everyone else's theorys bull (pretty much) when you don't even have the basics down yourself. Your hypocrisy amuses me, you question my knowledge and provide a completely wrong explanation, acctually you don't even provide an explaination as to why I am wrong... Party hats have a value. Why? because there is supply of these party hats and demand for these party hats. It doesn't get much harder than that. The only goods in an economy that do not have a price are those which are abundant, because everyone already has enough to satisfy their needs at any given time. This can change depending on many factors like location, but beware of a misconseption: respawning does not automatically make a good abundant, even if it has no end in sight because it still takes time to collect the good and thus not enough is collected to satisfy everyone's need at any given time. Any good that is not abundant is considered scarce because there isn't enough of it, and therefore by definition has a price. These are known as economic goods and they are traded on the basis of supply and demand. The only requirement for a good to be an economic good is the scarcity. This means that the shape of the good doesn't matter in any way. Party hats obviously fit in this category allong with every good in runescape I will be very much interested to hear the explanation for your theory
  22. I understand ur example but I think that's a little difference between ferraris and bubblegums... Well if the best weapon ingame was 50M and i heard you could hit a 1000 with it i would work the time it is necessary for it. If I can wear full dragon, why full rune? Buy full dragon. If I can wear a fury, why a glory? The point of my example is to explain this "percentage of income idea", but yes, of course the efficiency is likely to make it worth buying, or if you put it this way: If we get sufficient ammount of utility out of the higher price to make it worthwhile. However the thread author is basically asking "why is a small bonus justify 1000 times the price?"
  23. Of course, I very much think they do have an equivalent to gp for all items, that is why removing the rares from the game will remove a large amount of gp, keep in mind that I am speculating as there is no right answer. I see what you are trying to say: people don't have enough items to spend their cash on. But it's not that simple, because the amount of gold coins isn't a constant, in fact it's changing all the time and the amount of things you can buy with gp is also changing, there are alternatives for spending money as well as external factors (like the people with large amounts of cash just quitting because they can't get a phat anymore) which should be taken into account, but there isn't really a way to predict inflation in rs or in the real world, if there was, economists would be the richest people on earth. However it is possible to measure it over the course of a year. Just find a random sample of, say 200 people, get a log of everything they buy and weigh it accordingly to then work out a price index. Compare the price indexes and there you'll have the inflation rate. Sorry for the block of text. It's late, if you wait a few hours I'll have the patience to seperate it in paragraphs tomorrow morning
  24. update: 60k logs left, this isn't too far away in fact I'm in good shape for finishing this project on Monday but if I don't get enough done this weekend I will finish on Tuesday. Either way, this is comming to an end soon and then the era of triumph will begin as I wear my very first skillcape
