The same sort of people who can afford to play Runescape all day without having to go to school or have a job, or doing anything else in life. It seems some of the top players are financially secure enough that they can just afford to do that all day. In the 200M thread, I did the math for the first 39 days of Divination, and using extremely conservative estimates, it turned out that Drumgum was able to get 60M Divination experience by playing something like 16-17 hours a day. Allegedly, Suomi, similarly, didn't need a job, and nor did Jake, to support himself. So there's quite a few people that can afford it.

Dragonkin are also supposed to be in there (or at least the explanation for the SOA), but they have been vague on that too.

BTS videos and Podcasts are always like that. We'd love to tell you stuff, but we can't, so, uh... we will talk about other stuff or stuff that we already told you about. I don't understand why in some BTS's for this they mention Sliske, and in others not even a word? Are they still debating whether to include him or not?

Evolution of PVP combat!
I am a big proponent of PVP servers as they existed during the early part of the PVP servers of 2009.

Evolution of PVP combat!
It's a very good step, though I fear it may be too late. I am not sure if all those Pkers can be persuaded to return, especially if EoC stays (and I don't think getting rid of EoC just to get Pkers back is a very good idea either).

I guess we just differ then. I don't think we should blame McDonald's for people becoming obese because they choose to eat there every day. I don't feel that we should blame drug dealers for people overdosing. I don't blame Jagex for creating a game when people play to unhealthy levels. I guess common sense should be completely abolished, and everyone should never be held accountable for their own actions. Sounds like a perfect system to me really. Just the society we live in I guess, as everyone likes to blame others, but not themselves for their own mistakes. Man society is getting worse every day... Common sense is nothing more than agreed-upon prejudices and customs; what is common sense to you and others may not be sensible to myself and others. So no, I don't care at all for your conception of how we should handle these sorts of things, which seems to be some sort of laissez faire, methodological individualism approach -- I don't accept these concepts in the least. We both simply disagree, and that's all there is to it. --------- I do find it somewhat surprising that they didn't even pretend to put any limits on this, "Nope, you can reset however many times you want!". Not even the facade of 200M.

I don't buy into nonsense about inidividuals being sovereigns and simply making optimal choices based on free will. Individuals are highly malleable and they respond to social and environmental pressures, so I am for promoting pressures that produce better, or at least healthy, social results. So no, I am blaming the right people for this. Prevention, not reaction. --- But even if we put all of that aside, and focus solely on the gameplay aspect (without any moral considerations), the fact of the matter is that Jagex completely devalued 99's as an achievement by proliferating bonus experience everywhere so they could make short-term cash (bonus weekends, months, items, SOF). Now they have actually caughten onto this fact that they have made 99's completely worthless, so they are punishing us for their mistake.

I knew that this disgraceful day would come where Jagex would shamelessly incentivize such obsessive and unhealthy behaviour. It's absolutely inevitable that they will slowly add more and more tangible rewards to this in order to encourage players to waste their time on this nonsense and slowly move up the 99 cap. It's certainly a slippery slope, and a pretty atrocious one at that. It's a transparent attempt to condition us into spending more and more time doing pointless stuff. And this is all their fault; if they hadn't given out bonus experience like it was paper, then there wouldn't so many people with 99s and 99s wouldn't be utterly meaningless. Completely idiotic update. Unscrupulous hacks.

Why is 2006 seen by many to be the best year for RS?
I don't quite agree. PVP was never the endgame or the core of the game for most people. It was at one time something a lot of people did, but it was never a majority. Skillers/Questers/Boss hunters were always here and outnumbered the Pkers. Pkers were regarded as obnoxious and immature brats who would do things like griefing or shouting obscenities at you while they fought you. There was always a touch of antagonism there; and that is probably why when the Wildy was finally removed in 07 (as a PVP thing, anyways), the exodus of Pkers did not seem to garner much sympathy from other communities. I would also dispute your narrative about rushing/pjing; they seem to be have always been around. I enjoyed Castle Wars and Fight Pits, as did many others, but it was a fun distraction, never a core part of the game. A lot of people don't like PVPing and never really have. And it is also not true that PVPing was the best money. Boss hunting (barrows), for most of RS, or Slayer back in 2005, gave it a reasonable run for its money. As for bosses, the thing is, they usually are very challenging, despite their farming -- the problem is that Jagex often releases new super gear that makes them very easy to camp and that is when they become farmable and prices actually go down. It is quite possible to have challenging and profitable bosses. And RS has historically had those, it is just that sooner or later the balance tilts. The boss thing, in some ways, is a self fixing problem once we reach the game's limits: Once we have lvl 99 gear across the board and simply cannot become more powerful bosses can be feasibly designed for that tier that can't easily become under-powered. Of course there's also the notion, which may be a wise move, of putting in some sort of scaling combat of level to fight on bosses so that lower bosses either can't be killed for drops by those too high OR can't be farmed easily due to scaling. The trouble here also comes, however, from said boss drops being a vital source of mid-range gear that ought to hold a certain degree of affordability. That's years down from the road, at the bare minimum. That doesn't really fix bosses now, or for all the previous years. It's a terrible solution.

Birthright of the Dwarves- 2nd October 2013
The quest seems so rushed that Veldaban doesn't have any post-quest dialogue. No summary, no questions, nothing. He doesn't even want to see Hilda's memories (which he hinted during the quest that he might). The more I think about it, the more I realize this was the most rushed and most incompetently developed GM quest ever. Bar none. Everything about it screams "did it the night before by pulling an all-nighter".

Birthright of the Dwarves- 2nd October 2013
I don't care about quest requirements (I used to, but not anymore). They could be 0 for every single quest from now till eternity. What I care about is quality and length. And to me, despite Mod Mark's flippant responses, GM means it is an epic, long, and immersing quest. This just wasn't that. Graphical glitches, too short, untied ends, and unimpressive -- that was the problem. The thing is, usually Jagex is *very* good at grand narratives (just see the Gods/Mahjarrat storylines). I was expecting more, a lot more, particularly for a finale. This was an unusual letdown.

Birthright of the Dwarves- 2nd October 2013
I just did the quest (I didn't have time prior to today). As usual, it was far from the standard of GM quest; it would have been best left graded at a Master Quest at most. I am not sure why they keep pretending hastily-developed quests are GM worthy. It was a fun little quest, but so obviously not a GM quest. There's nothing wrong with a quest not being GM level, but there is something wrong with giving rise to false expectations, and then trying to meet those false expectations in a ramshackle and half-assed way (the quest as some other posters in this thread have mentioned, was done in a few months). An easier solution would be simply to label such quests as Master, rather than GM, and then there will be no heightened expectations or inevitable disappointments. And there were quite a few graphical glitches that were very annoying, during the fight and the cannon part. Still, I enjoyed it somewhat, though it was short.

Thank goodness Azzanadra is in the quest. I am a huge fan of that, they didn't drop any hints until now if he would be in here or not. It's also good to see the rest of the Mahjarrat. Also, they have been alternating (in the podcasts) about how they describe the quest, sometimes they talk about Ichthlarin/Death, and other times it's about Sliske. I was always wondering how they would weave those storylines together (I know of Sliske's grudge against Ichthlarin). Still, I was very curious. At moments it seemed like this story would just be about Death/Ichthlarin, with no mention of Sliske, and other times it looked as if it would only involve Sliske. So that's great.

I could be mistaken here, but the part about Missing/Presumed Death -- the sense that I got was that next week's BTS video would be about Missing/Presumed Death. I don't think we are actually getting the update this coming Tuesday.

Behind the Scenes - October 2013
According to the Podcast, if I remember correct, it's Novice, not too long (so, short), and the rewards are some animations, that's it. They must have changed their mind.

As long as it doesn't degrade to nothing after degrading to 0% like Tectonic, I will be happy. It looks great, and a thousand times better than that hideous Death Lotus (which still looks like crap despite a redo).

It took nowhere near as long as they said it would; I will give them credit for that. Good job. Servers are down again: The servers are done, but I am kidding of course.

Super September is Coming!
Technically, we are 'owed' the following things: -October BTS -Dwarf Quest -End of BoL -Divination Bonus Experience I am beginning to think something gets bumped off, with their hideous laziness as of late. In a proper world, we would have gotten an October update this week also, oh well.

200M in all Skills
It was confirmed via Mod Mark's Twitter that there would be no bonus Divination XP until after somebody got 200m XP. If you spent half as much time training Div as you did waiting for bonus XP on it you'd be 99+ already. Screenshot, please. If it's true, despite the fact that I am nearly there, that's a big douche move on their part.

Super September is Coming!
I am not sure if this quite belongs in this thread, but I found it funny: http://[Use Quick Find Code]/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?16,17,488,65168810 One satirical theory as to why Super September hasn't been too super.
