  1. Yeah that's good and all, but releasing the information after the events have transpired kind of defeats the purpose of it doesn't it? I want to know what is actively going on so I can form an opinion NOW. Releasing information after things happen removes responsibility from government. If things go well because of their decision: "See, we were right!" If things go badly: "We need to learn from our mistakes". Either situation, they get to do WHATEVER they want to. Granted that is the nature of the democratic system (electing leaders to make decisions for us), but I believe if we elected them, we should at least be granted the decency of knowing what they are doing. I'm willing to compromise if names and the like need to be left out to grant safety to confidential sources or informants, but the rest of the information should be public under all circumstances. That, I will not compromise on. Making all such discussion public would only hurt the government's ability to do its' job. Many of these communications could easily damage international relations and hinder actual dealmaking. I have a sneaking suspicion we will disagree on this, but I don't believe the government's job is to be secretive and withhold information from its people. I know diplomacy is rooted in secrecy and deception but that doesn't make it right.

  3. Jesus christ can we please not turn this thread into the efficiency debate? It's fine to discuss the different camps (fun v. efficiency) and their role in the community but I don't really want to read that argument for the eight millionth time...
  4. Hey, we need secrecy, otherwise all the legitimate diplomatic relationships we've formed based on trust with other countries will surely crumble...
  5. Cet obscur objet du désir-1977 I'm starting to become very fond of Bunuel's movies, so it's hard to say this movie wasn't good, but it wasn't amazing like some of his others.
  6. El ángel exterminador-1962 A striking movie you will not quickly forget.
  7. Cancer, AIDS, HIV, and other deadly diseases are our natural predators. We don't need another animal to kill us, our own stupidity in thinking that we can consume anything (even cancerous products) will. As good of a thing finding cures for these diseases would be, it will only contribute to our overpopulation.
  8. If the government of the United States or any other government around the world points fingers at WikiLeaks for endangering lives, it's nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black. And as for the sex crimes? Seems like whenever there is a person wanted by a certain government they dig some dirt to defame them in the public eye. Whether or not those crimes are relevant to the documents doesn't matter. The only thing that does is Julian Assange is now portrayed as a possible rapist or sexual assaulter, something Americans look down upon with great scorn. This is quickly turning into a mud-slinging battle except Assange has much less to lose than anyone. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
  9. Eraserhead I'm starting to kind of dig this surrealist stuff.
  10. It's not as cut as dry as 'good' and 'bad' "camps". And it isn't shunning people either. Anyone has the ability to 'qualify'. It isn't about being accepted or denied. It's about 'qualifying'. If someone posts in whatever topic or forum to qualify into the 'intelligent boards' but they just joined yesterday, who is it to blame there? They might get mad, but really, do we have to cater towards that? If those who post to get qualified in the qualification form, yet, they obviously do not meet the bare minimum, then that's their own fault. No one is going to shun them for 'not getting in', or being 'denied' as you said. It isn't about being denied or accepted. It's about contributing enough to the community to merit the actual acceptance/entry. Every user still has the same opportunity that you speak of, to grow as a poster. In fact, with a secluded forum, they have a lot more motivation to post regularly, thoughtfully and intelligently. I would be glad to recontribute whatever it is I have contributed to Tip.It since I first joined, in order to qualify for the 'intelligent forum'. It's not an 'elitist' club and everyone has the same opportunity to acquire their access into it. Everyone is still on the same equal footing. We have one of those already, it's called the Moderator's Forum ;) Any other division of members is going to lead to a schism in the community and a massive drop in board activity, neither of which I want to see. I would rather have the argumentative and borderline snobby community we have now than a non-existent one.
  11. Yeah, there is a pinned topic for introductions at the topic of this forum and also the Help & Advice forum for specific questions. I don't know how well your general questions will get answered here, people tend to be jerks.
  12. These documents have done nothing but catch politicians with their pants down and now they're pissed because the shady work that they were doing is finally exposed. Throw back the curtain and let some light in! Government officials are OUR employees, not the other way around.
  13. Separating people into "good" and "bad" camps is only going to make things worse and is definitely not what this forum needs. This is a free forum for anyone to join regardless of whether or not you deem them worthy of posting. Instead of shunning people for being bad posters, why don't you give them the same opportunity to grow and mature as a poster that you were given when you joined.
  14. Maybe if we didn't have our sticky fingers in every Middle Eastern country's business, there wouldn't be any need for leaks of this kind. Ah, but I can dream can't I?
  15. Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt- The Mars Volta off their live album Scabdates.
  16. I wouldn't ask Das to do anything, but rather I ask the intelligent members of this forum, the ones that are reading this post and NOT replying, to start posting again...please! I know you're out there because when topics like this come up, you all come out of the woodwork to give an off-hand remark about how things were better before. Well, why don't you start posting again and make things better instead of reminiscing about the past. End soapbox.
  17. Bulbs Well, according to this, if the bulbs are $.99, you would spend about $34 on the 60W bulbs. Not sure on the amount of money saved each month though.

    The Poll

My fear of heights is probably the only one I have. Deathly afraid of them.
  19. I find it hilarious sometimes that people feel like TIF is going down the drain based on the posts and discussions of ONE board. There's plenty of thriving community in other areas like OT. Sure, GD has a lot of traffic, but it does not define the community in my opinion.
  20. Yeah....the game/board hasn't changed. You have :-P
  21. "In the quiet town of Connorsville, Wisconsin, it's illegal for a man to shoot off a gun when his female partner has an orgasm." This town is less than 20 miles from where I grew up and has probably 300 or less people in it.
  22. I've started to enjoy hip-hop a lot over the past few years and I know that I'm somewhat of a beginner in my tastes, but Kanye just doesn't do it for me. His songs always seem so...empty. I'll listen to this one a few more times before I give it up as I do with every album.
  23. My enjoyment of RuneScape has NEVER hinged on whether an update is on time or not. Patience is a virtue my friends ;-)
  24. I have no problems with Favre because above all else I am a Packers fan, not a Brett Favre fan. I will say it is a little hard to watch him play. He looks so depressed all the time, especially in the post-game interviews...jesus.
  25. I don't think it's about that. Otherwise they'd have probably said something about certain priests. Anyway, I think it's a step in the right direction, and I'd love to see celibacy let go by the church, but I'm afraid that day is far from near. How is it not about that? The Church has been feeling pressure for years now because of their stance on contraceptives from AIDS research groups.
