  1. Vegetarians that force their views on other people are morons that only need to reaffirm to themselves that what they are doing is holier-than-thou. I only tell people under certain circumstances, this topic being one of them. If someone asks me if I want something with meat on it, I simply say "No, thanks" instead of saying "No, I'm a vegetarian" or "No, I don't eat meat".
  2. The flaw here being it IS being sustained and the only reason for hunger is food distribution and waste NOT lack of production. Ergo the argument of vegetarianism making more food production is flawed in that we do not need more food production; AND people also ignore the chemical pollution of pesticides etc in crop growing and the pollution from vehicles required to plow, sow, water and harvest crops as well as the fact they take more to transport around so more pollution there and grains etc require more processing to result in an edible form than meat whihc again is more pollution. Care to back any of that up with stats or links? The fact remains that meat is an extremely inefficient product to produce and a detriment to the earth. The concept is not that hard to grasp.
  3. The point he's trying to make, I believe, is by showing you the maximum capacity of food an acre of land can produce (using the potato example) when not devoted to feeding livestock. In reality I don't think we would produce all of that food, it's only being used to prove a point and that is that we are wasting precious resources on the unnecessary production of livestock. You can twist the figures all you want, but the fact remains that it is an inefficient system that cannot possibly be sustained given our population. Perhaps 500-1,000 years ago, but not today. Not without severe repercussions. Also, let's not bring world hunger into this debate. It is about the consumption or non-consumption of meat. That type of thing only adds spin.
  4. Full-time college student and I teach winter and summer drumline along with playing gigs around St Cloud for some cash.
  5. The pseudo-manly posts on this thread are so sickening, almost as sickening as the processed garbage you people seem to think is meat. I am not a vegetarian, I will eat meat that came from an animal someone killed that I know personally or from a local meat market, but I will never touch "meat", or grey-matter, as I like to call it, from any grocery store or restaurant. All I have to say is that if you're oblivious to what you're putting in your body, don't read up on it because you won't look at food the same again. And if you do want to read up on it, I highly recommend "The Omnivoire's Dilemma"
  6. People who are high on public transportation are definitely NOT going to talk to you for 30 minutes non-stop. They are much more concerned whether or not you can tell if they are high.
  7. It's the same concept as having adults only swim. We pretty much have this starting around 11 or 12 o'clock CST when all the younger players go to bed, so that's kind of cool, but it'd be nice to have the option available to us all the time.
  8. It's not about maturity, it's about AGE. Us older players can be as immature as any 13 year old, but just like in real life, we don't like to hang out with 13 year old kids. I know that not every high-level player is going to be 20+ years old, but there is a lot better chance that he or she will be, and THAT is what we want. Or at least what I would like to see.
  9. We need some new faces...er, avatars around here, some of the older members have their heads up their...yeah. So welcome :) I definitely agree with you. Even though a complete overhaul of the fishing skill would be necessary to implement a fish-x option, I don't want to see it happen.
  10. I'm not an "O.G." by any means, but I'm as old school as it comes for RS2. I started during the beta. I don't use many new ways to train, but sometimes it's unavoidable.
  11. I definitely agree with this. It's France, they can do as they please.
  12. Because clearly the answer is to do the same thing in reverse. It's not about getting in some sort of pissing contest over who is right or wrong, it's about adapting to the cultural norms when you are in another country. And now the norms have developed into law.
  13. I've seen plenty of video clips where American women were forced to wear these when in an Islamic country. Now it's the other way around for them, deal with it. When in Rome....
  14. I can play on the highest graphics setting now!
  15. Portnoy has been playing the same fill since '91 and DT should have cashed in the chips long ago. My sister, who is the biggest DT fan I have ever met, walked out of their show last spring. As far as I'm concerned, Portnoy could never touch a kit again and I wouldn't care at all.
  16. Looks like the Tip.it Times' DYK section made it onto the loading screen.
  17. Guns are disgusting creations. I can never understand how people believe that we need a militia in the 21st century. The only other reason to carry a gun is testosterone, and that's pretty lame.
  18. I watched The Trial today. Awesome Orson Welles film.
  19. They are most definitely heroes, don't get me wrong, but it's sad that it's being done as a slight publicity stunt.
  20. Great thread title :-| Maybe you should use a more accurate one. Communism didn't fail, CUBA did.
  21. Not sure why everyone is posting their all-time lists when it says "artists that you're currently in love with", but here's my 5: Roy Harper (specifically Stormcock) Van Morrison (specifically Veedon Fleece) A Tribe Called Quest Miles Davis HUM
  22. It is a way of giving the individual player a reward for their hard work. The fact that immature players have turned it into a popularity contest is something COMPLETELY different.
  23. Sounds to me like some people ate a whole bunch of sour grapes....
  24. They most definitely would have, at least the Aztecs (Nahua) would have. I'm not too keen on my Incan history at the moment. Those cultures believe that if you are defeated by another group of people, their god(s) must be amazingly powerful and that you need to believe in their gods as a result. Now the tricky part is that they didn't stop believing in their own gods when the Spanish conquered them. Take for instance the Virgin of Guadalupe, often she is depicted standing on snakes. This can be interpreted as either a Spanish effort to show that Christianity is crushing the old gods (as the snake is a central figure in much of ancient Mexican civilization) or a way of appeasing the native people by adding a little bit of their old religion into Christianity...you decide. There is much more behind the colonization of the Americas than people like to believe. It's in the details, folks ;)
