  1. Those numbers have always made sense to me, and it's what has been my general aim in RS. I remember how happy I was a few years ago when I first got myself into the top 50,000 over levels, and I had a few individual skills in the top 35,000. Now, after an 18 month absence and a few months catch up, I'm barely back in the top 100k and I have no skills in their top 50k. When I left, my combat was high average (87), now it's low average (90). And yet I see the higher level updates of recent times (ME part2, some of RFD, etc) as more difficult that the higher level updates of two years ago (monkey madness). So Jagex are making harder things for people, it's just getting harder at the same rate that the average gets better. If someone is a genius at maths, they can use my experience to try and work out that average rate of growth or something, but that might not be possible.
  2. Despite playing all this month, the Shadow Sword thing completely passed me by. I didn't see it in any of the news reports. The first I heard of it was when I guide appeared on the main page, and I assumed it had been something that had come out during my absence and had only just been written about. I didn't realise it was new this month. Who first found it then? Could my complete naivety be because I haven't done Desert Treasure yet and thus don't even have the Ghostly Robes?
  3. That strikes me as possibly the most long winded and riskiest scam imaginable. If someone did that to me, I'd be perfectly happy taking the 10mil and watching a few duels - after all, I know they're not an 'old friend' and I don't do duelling - or PvP in general. I could always use the line that surely an 'old friend' would know that right? But yes, that would be considered to be 'not in the spirit of the game' and thus technically against the rules. But there is a difference between what is against the rules and what is provable. Innocent until proven guilty is a central theme of our society (and Jagex's policy) and with something like the above scam and luring it's just not possible to provide proof. Thus, people get away with it. The trick, therefore, in combating luring is to find a way to catch them in the act - somebody mentioned having an obvious change in the wilderness and regular world - change the colour of the ground? Have a permanent warning pop up on the square directly before the wilderness starts? I'm not sure what methods jagex could implement, and surely - now that we seem to have decided that luring is unacceptable, if possibly legal - we should now try to find ways of prevention and cure?

He's F2P  Anyway, Cow Hides are the way forward. If you kill and collect yourself they're a good way of getting range exp (always use range on these things, then you get them before the newbies) on F2P. Don't cost too much this way either. Never bought them so I don't know the market price. I've heard Tiara's are good as well, but I don't know for a fact. Oh, and when you get bored of crafting and go off and do other stuff you quite often get a lot of gems. Always make sure you've crafted the gems into the best things you can make. Saves on bank space too.
  5. Construction is a drain on the whole economy, whereas skill capes are more of an economical drain to the rares market. While construction reduces the overall gain of GP into the economy, thus making slightly less demand for rares, the skillcapes resulted in a lot more rares coming to market. So that's why it dropped. Once those who sold their rares buy it back, they'll stand in world 2 with their brand new fletching skill cape and the price will rise as per normal.
  6. At some point the birds eggs have to be used, right?
  7. I weren't saying we should pity the autoers. I was saying that even if Jagex were to stop banning them, whoop-de-doo, it would barely affect us - except that those who buy raw materials, craft/smelt/whatever and alch will make more of a profit. Or other things such as Nature Runes will rise to compensate. And I'm sorry to do this to you, but I am very much going to underestimate the value of 'veteran F2Pers'. Because there are incredibly few of you. Compared to the number of free players who only play for a few months max, or who get membership, you're a pitiful number. Jagex doesn't want to court you. If anything, Jagex wants nothing to do with you - you're not paying for the game. Jagex wants new members, and it wants to keep the members it has. Keeping a F2Per who's been around for 3 years is a nice idea, but if you quit in protest about how you can't make money any more, Jagex will ignore you. That said, I do hope Jagex does try and keep you playing. I hope that Jagex can clean up the F2P worlds of autoers and establish a fair economy. It's just that if it all goes to hell, Jagex will think about the bottom line - and veteran F2Ps are not it.
  8. If you play your cards right, then a slight increase in autoers can help you. Simply make your money from making stuff then high alching it rather than selling raw materials. The alch price always stays the same. If autoers do flood the market to the extent that prices will crash (which I greatly doubt) then it's suddenly become easier to make money - buy cheap raw materials, use them and alch. You will profit. But of course there will never be that many autoers, because Jagex is sensible. Note: I do not condone autoers. They are the scum of the earth in this game.
  9. That's a different kind of luring altogether. The dead player was lured into the wilderness on the hope of getting a party hat for free. The luring we are talking about involves tricking a person into the wilderness in order to kill them easily. Edit @ Swampjedi: Yeah, that too! :P
  10. Doesn't the samurai guy take them for the bolt racks?
  11. If autoers were to dissapear it would affect the economy. Prices on basic resources would rise, so would the end result of items etc. But flooding RS with autoers is not a good thing. If prices on raw materials were to plummet no one would have any confidence in the economy anymore.
  12. FOR THE WIN!! \ \  *Has only just discovered this for himself* But that makes no logical sense! If you want to say something's cool, says it's the best or something like that. 'For The Win' sounds like someone's mangled the English language and made it sound 'cool' by abbreviating their screw ups. Oh, and you've all missed the ultimate confuser: scimmys. I mean, huh?
  13. 1) Miniclip did not destroy P2P. The VAST majority (at least 90%) of people who discover RuneScape through miniclip will try it for an hour or so and quit. Miniclip is a site designed for you lunch breaks, a distraction. Nothing more. 2) Of course those at the rock crabs acted immature. They're pures. In general, pures seem to have an unexplainable belief that they are better than you, and they somehow deserve your items, your skills, your time. Those at the Rock Crabs may have found RS through MiniClip, but it was probably quite some time ago. 3) New miniclip players train their combat on the level 5 goblins. You won't find them at the rock crabs. 4) I found RS through Miniclip, and I like to think that I've been a welcome addition to the community.
  14. Aww, I miss being a teenager. I could do whatever I wanted and blame it on hormones, or some such. Although my cousin keeps insisting that I'm twenteen not twenty. I think it's because she's turning 20 in August...
  15. Oh yeah, America really needs some population control, I mean, the countries overflowing! =D> #-o Do you have any idea how sparsely populated America is (on average) compared to other countries? One of the simplest ways to do this is to check the price of land. America's land is dirt cheap. The house my Uncle had in New Jersey set him back $500,000 dollars. A house of slightly smaller size in the UK is worth ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2,000,000 - which he can't afford, so he's renting it. So no, America doesn't need a 1 (or 2) child rule. And as to the bit about Europe havingan aging population, that is true, and a worry that is not being spoken of enough. I, personally, am hoping to have 3 kids when I grow up, partly because I like kids, but also because that's probably going to be the only way I'll die in dignity. 3 kids can spread the cost. An example: my Nan is 80, has rapidly spreading dementia and will likely not see 2008. She is currently in a residential/nursing home. If my Dad was an only child, putting her up there, with the care she needs, would financially cripple our family. Despite the student loans, I'd have to pull out of uni (or move to one up north, where it's cheaper), my mother would probably have to go back to the office jobs she hated rather than helping the school she loves, etc. But because my father has 4 siblings, they can spread the cost between them easily and it's barely a burden. In fact, each of them feel guilty that it's so cheap for each of them and continually visit and take her out, spend money on her etc - none of which she would get if her only son was financially crippled just keeping her alive! Another point: The original poster made the comment that reducing the amount of children born would reduce the amount of unwanted children and poor children whose families couldn't support them. If China is anything to go by, this would probably be the opposite of what would happen. Baby girls are abandoned to die on Chinese streets because a girl is married off into someone elses family - meaning there is no one to carry on their family. While I doubt it would go quite so extreme in America, some advanced techniques (like 'custom-babies', being able to choose the sex of the baby before embryo implantation, and the fact that the sex of the baby can be identified before the legal limit for abortion, and the abortion itself) would probably result in a huge increase of male babies - especially amongst the middle and upper classes. In the poor classes, you might see female babies being abandoned in hospitals while the parents keep trying for a boy. Abortion would also skyrocket. Despite being pro-life I would not ban abortion ever, but it should be reduced. It should be the last possible resort advice given to the mother. American abortion rates need to go down - everyone, pro choice and pro life agrees that a high abortion rate is not the sign of a healthy society. One would hardly call the Chinese society healthy either. And I'm not entirely sure how Bush came into, but if anyone wants an explanation on how Bush has systematically destroyed the American economy, how his tax cuts give the rich and his friend's business huge profits while making the economy worse (thus resulting in a 'need' for more tax cuts for the rich), and how pulling the troops out of Iraq (as well as sending more in) is the last thing he should be doing (a third way is needed, consisting of a multinational UN force that instead of occupying Iraq, provides security - a fundamental difference), then fee free to PM me. Neoconservatives and Christian's who accuse me of being unchristian are especially welcome, as you probably need the most help :P
  16. Most in game item sales arn't done using ebay anymore. Heck, if you view Tip.it without a decent ad blocker you can see advertisments to those type of websites in the google ads! And while the Chinese New Year thing is a possibility, nobody's commented on the yew autoers going missing, so I doubt it.
  17. As an addenum to my previous post, I have just recieved a Bob Shirt from a level 1 clue. It's examine is: "Bob says: Never trade in the Wilderness!". Now, while Bob the Jagex Cat may not be an official spokesperson for Jagex, his advice is always useful, right? Luring involves trading in the Wilderness. And trading in the wilderness makes Bob cry.
  18. I don't remember whose it was, but someone's signature said: "Every one with a lower level than you is a noob, everyone with a higher level is a no-lifer." Which is true, obviously . :P But seriously, a high level doesn't signify addiction. A huge amount of playing time signifies addiction. What is Jagex introduced a time management thing? There was a text based browser game I tried once, Imperia Online I think, that would let you play for a maximum of 10 hours in 24. That sort of limit (say, after 3 hours, don't let the character be logged on for one) could be classed as responsible, and would prevent addiction.
  19. Hmm. That revealed a small amount to me about Jagex's code. I figured the images of the face you see when talking were dependant on what the character looked like. But apparently (or at least when it comes to NPCs) the image is preset.
  20. I noticed one thing - it said diamond ring. Maybe the kid had to go away for something figured that his 'ring of life' could save him - except he'd forgotten to enchant it?
  21. This game makes perfect sense. The idea that you become more proficient in what you train in is completely sensible, and has been used to great effect in games such as Dungeon Seige. Switching this to an experince spending system would ruin the basis of everything RS stands for. Although I own games like Fable (and enjoy them immensly) it annoys me that I can become a master in all my archery skill stats without using my bow outside of the training area.
  22. If I want to comparemy strength, I merely look at how I was when I started - using full steel armour (the best I could make) to take on Goblins. Now I can 1 or 2 hit them with no armour, and very little cost to my health. So I'm not terribly concerned about how weak I am. As I higher level, you fight higher level monsters, and they're always gonna hit you. If you're wearing max defense equipment and get hit by a <10 level npc, then start worrying.
  23. My goals when doing anything are to break even. And as everything I do is done using stuff I've made (unless I don't have the level to make it, such as armour/weapons) I always make a profit! Making my own food, potions etc means that no matter which monster I face I always make a profit. I love games where you always win!
  24. You miss understand me slightly - I wasn't saying that F2P should be given a small amount of the theiving skill - I'm saying that the HAM caves could be opened up, the the thieve option available to everyone. But only members can actually thieve (F2P get a message similar to when they try to open the members gates now). Non-members could see exactly what they're missing and be more likely to get members. It's similar to the falador graphical update. They saw how Falador looked, and Jagex was able to say that ALL the members world looks that good.
  25. Maybe it's because I was raised by Unreal Tournament instead of my parents, but as far as I'm concerned your flag should either be safe in your base or in your opponents hands. If someone from your team grabs your dropped flag, it goes back to your base. But maybe I'm just used to playing a game that depends on your skill rather than how long you've trained you stats... that would possibly explain why I have a mere 8 castle wars tickets.
