  1. One more reason why it's good that these were done away with. People are WAY too hung up on "making loads of money". The updates this month will change that, slowly, I hope. And BTW, the profits from Runecrafting are going to drop -- dramatically. The days of 91 RC earning 1 M/hr are over for good. You heard it here first.
  2. Worrying. When JageX removes the free player to player trading this can mean that specific items will not be trade able for days while the GE is slowly adjusting to the new trends. Yep. Exactly why I have been pleading with Jagex to fix the GE.
  3. That would be the lovely price controls in action. They simply do not allow the GE to respond to market changes. So at first it was impossible to sell essence, then it was useful for a while, and now for several days it may be impossible to buy. I predicted that this would happen in an article the day the GE was released. Jagex needs to loosen it up a bit.
  4. Aquashock, you make some valid points in an elegant manner, so thank you for that. And I can certainly understand your frustration. I know (and said) that certainly there are legitimate PKers who are being caught in the crossfire here. Just as innocent skillers, monster slayers and generous players are being caught in it. Unfortunately, while there were many fair and reasonable PKers, the community as a whole was the pits. This, combined with the RWT problem, gave Jagex an obvious incentive to just clean up the whole mess once and for all. And yes, lots of other players will be affected, and items will drop in value, but that's really not the end of the world. alcoolj, I hear you. Again, I do think Jagex needs to improve all of the changes it introduced yesterday.
  5. It's an editorial. It's based on opinion. Viewpoints. etc. They are. They're proving it. Again. Again, it's an editorial, not a review. And if you only think it was based on pures, you clearly didn't even read it.
  6. Jagex can and will fix the problems with Lootshare and monster hunting. I feel quite confident of that, and suggested a few options in my earlier article (linked at the top of this one.)
  7. No, "is impressing". My expression was a polite way of saying "you two are both acting like idiots". Well, good thing Jagex killed staking then. Too bad the non-cheats had to suffer along with people like you.
  8. (Originally published on TruthScape and copied here for the benefit of the Tip.It community and to spur discussion.) The TruthScape Soapbox - Issue #6 - Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish Published: December 11, 2007 In my prior Soapbox article I expressed my concerns due to what I felt were excessively harsh actions that Jagex had taken to clean up the game, which could result in throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. While I do believe that Jagex still has much work to do in ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åsaving the baby̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  9. I never said that it was good for reasonable, decent players to quit. I said that the community is improved if the people who are spamming and rioting and acting like morons quit.
  10. What some people don't realize is that being a good leader means sometimes doing what you must even if it's unpopular. (I am not defending Bush by the way, just speaking generally.) If you only do things based on poll numbers, you're not a leader, you're a follower.
  11. As some may know, the crude software used for the RSOF puts session identifier information right in the URLs. As a result, if anyone who is logged in posts a URL to another forum without changing it, anyone who clicks that link will automatically become logged in as that person. Someone on my forum had his account banned from the forums after this happened, so I cobbled together a very quick and simple code change that blocks it. If anyone here is interested, PM me and I'll tell you how to implement it here (since we're using the same boardware.) It's very simple and easy to see that it's safe.
  12. I posted my article on the RSOF. I needed 20 reserves, and then edited in the article in choppy form (since there's no formatting there). There's so much spam there now that by the time I was done, the thread was on page 5! http://forum.[Please Use QuickFind Code].ws?15,16,55,54727658 If anyone is willing to help keep an eye on it so it doesn't get eaten I'd be grateful. Just don't bump it unless you have a comment or it really is at risk of disappearing. Thanks. :)
  13. Did you really think Jagex didn't know this would happen? They did it because they felt they had to, and because it aligned with their principles for the game. Consider that they could have just taken the easy way out and allowed RWT and even sold gold themselves. Probably could have made nice money at it too. As for the people rioting -- every time one of those morons quits, the community improves. If I ran Jagex I'd ban rioters on the spot.
  14. 0%. Companies don't do things like that. Ever.
  15. People can use proxies and delete the U.I.D. If that's done and the transaction has been completed, it's virtually undetectable. If Jagex really determines that this is a problem, they can eliminate the problem by moving away from a browser-based client. Seems extreme, but then.... :)
  16. More difficult for the cheats, much easier to track, and more chance of having your account retroactively nuked when the person you bought it from is caught later on. Not saying it won't happen more, but it's likely to be less of an issue, IMO.
  17. Ba-bing! What is lost in RWT items will just be turned over to RW account sharing/selling/trading. That's a lot more work for the cheats AND much easier to track.
  18. you didnt read the whole thing... gezus It would seem that you don't have the foggiest clue what "open source" means. Suggest you read up on it.
  19. No, that's fine by me, I liked his article better too! Mostly for the constructive suggestions. Well I appreciate the kind words, but I thought Armadyllo's article was a great read. And this isn't a competition so let's not get into the "better" stuff. :)
  20. What the hell are you talking about? Wikipedia is a success but it was built from the ground up by its users. Jimbo Wales didn't let some private company make it a success and then try to take the product away with hooey about the "users having a sense of ownership". Jagex doesn't need random kids on the Internet to "help the content" any more than General Motors needs car buyers to come work on the assembly line. In both cases the result would be a mess (or worse.) They simply need to LISTEN to what the customers are saying.
  21. How is giving away a billion dollar product they have spent a decade developing going to help Jagex? Good gravy.
  22. Well, you don't. Make your own game.
  23. Because they feel that they need to do this. Obviously. It clearly wasn't easy to do, and I don't support all the moves, but all the people who are trying to convince them that they were wrong to make any changes are completely missing the point.
  24. F2Pers whine just as much as P2Pers, if not more. Only difference is, they are freeloaders, and hence have no right to complain. Anyone who is a paying customer has a right to complain if he or she doesn't feel the service provided is up to snuff.
  25. I just published a long, detailed examination of the recent changes, focusing on player interaction and trading issues. While this article makes clear that I don't like the updates, it is not a rant. Rather, it is a list of specific problems with constructive recommendations for improving things within the context of Jagex's obvious desire to make combatting RWT a priority.
