There's shard packs sold in the stores. @25gp/shard, you can get hundreds of thousands of shards, don't need to use the ge at all.

I'd say use your golds to make terrorbirds first, then use your greens to make whatever. That should get you to a level where you can make stranger plants with your crimsons so do that. I don't know how far it'll get you, but if 68 summoning is in reach, use some blues to get it, then make bunyips with the rest of your greens.

My point, gargoyles become a much simpler and faster task After you buy the auto kill mechanic. Before that they are terrible. Also, you can effectively Mage slay them with the auto kill. Whether or not you decide to block them is totally up to you.
