The Walking Dead
The only problem I have with the show thus far is the lead guy. He reminds me of Joseph Fiennes with his weird facial expressions. I hope he turns out to be a better actor. It's hard to judge with only one episode.

What movie(s) did you last see?
Paranormal Activity 2. It was pretty good, but I didn't like how it confirmed the theater ending of the first one. I liked both of those alternate endings better. Anyway, it was better than the first in some ways, not as good in others. I'd consider it a win.

Literature
I quite agree. Those are my two favorites, even though The Horse and His Boy is the most side-story-ish installment of any series ever. Dawn Treader is just a fantastic little book.

What's Your Favourite Book?
I had to try really hard not to start spouting irreverent hate for the Inheritance books in my first post. It makes me sad to see them on so many people's lists. Harry Potter is hard to beat because it's so imaginative and culturally relevant. It helps that the books are passably written as well, so there's less reason to criticize that aspect. I mean, they're far from stellar, but it gets the job done. Unlike some others. . . Also, I have to give a shout-out to the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Fantastic books that no one seems to have read.

What's Your Favourite Book?
I would have mentioned the Dark Tower, but I haven't finished it yet. Only halfway through Wolves. And Wheel of Time would be great if it was about half as many books. Brandon Sanderson was really needed to give that series new life, IMO. The Gathering Storm was the first really good book in that series since Fires of Heaven, with a nod to Winter's Heart. I'm really, really excited for the HBO series. HBO has put out some of the best television ever, so if anyone will do it justice, it'll be them. I just hope they don't pull the plug too soon, a la Carnivale. I don't know how much cable you've seen, but they won't shy away from some of the more shocking elements, although I think they had to age up characters like Dany and the youngest Starks a bit.

What's Your Favourite Book?
George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire remains the greatest book series ever written and it's not even finished yet. Here's to hoping it will be. I really love The Stand, probably my favorite standalone novel. I'm not too into the horror genre but Stephen King is a cool dude. No love for classics? Faulkner. Enough said.

Rangeor's Top 10 Games
The Sacred Stones is pretty bleh compared to FE7. Being able to choose between classes when your units upgraded was cool, but the whole open map thing just made the game to damn easy and the story was rather uninteresting and hard to follow. If you haven't played FE7/Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance for GC and its sequel Radiant Dawn for Wii, do it now. They all kick the crap out of SS.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band Discussion thread
I want to play GHWOR really really bad right now. I'm coming home from college this weekend and the first thing I'm doing is buying the game. That, plus Metallica imports and Soundgarden full album DLC = omgwtfbbq. That's about 150 good, fun new songs added to my library for ~$60. Sweet Jesus yes.

School
Had my first day of classes at Kenyon College today. Only one class, Theory of Comedy. Tomorrow I have Econ, Sculpture, and a seminar called Quest for Justice. University rocks. There's so much to do all the time here. Tuesday night Second City Comedy came. Funniest [cabbage] ever.

What movie(s) did you last see?
I also recently started watching Carnivale, and I like it, but the first season dragged and made too little sense for my liking. Season 2 is about a hundred times better and I'm only four episodes in. Been on a TV binge lately. I've now seen all of Six Feet Under, almost all of Carnivale, and the first seasons of Deadwood and Dexter. I really like them all, though SFU is by far my favorite.

I finished all five seasons of Six Feet Under today. Wow.

Literature
People who write well are almost always voracious readers. Almost always, not always. The only thing I don't like about reading is having to sit still. And I've read a lot of interesting books and am at a loss for others. There's that, but I was angling more for the fact that being a good writer and having bad grammatical skills are two contradictory attributes. You might be a good storyteller, but writers write.

Major facepalm. ... I've slowed down on the reading lately. Started reading Dune while I was waiting for an oil change, never picked it back up after. Meh.

Twelve Angry Men. Fantastic movie. Not a film, but a TV series: Six Feet Under. Watched the first seven episodes, then bought the entire series :3 Got a good deal on it, too. I'll be having a marathon once it arrives. . .

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0926084/ Bill and Fleur are in it and there are pics of the Shell Cottage set floating around. I get the impression that they're serious about a faithful adaptation this time around, even if the previous movies seem to make that impossible. I want to know how they expect to make them finding Horcruxes believable when they left out the memory scenes in HBP that gave Harry and Dumbledore clues to what they even were. I understand why they left out the battle at the end of HBP, even if I didn't like it. It would give the battle in DH a certain sense of redundancy. Yes, the final battle is bigger and more epic, but if you've already seen something similar on-screen it takes away from it a bit. But taking that battle out is one of the two big problems with an otherwise excellent movie, the other being the lack of memories. The whole plot with Draco trying to fix the cabinet, so he could let in Death Eaters, makes no sense without a reason for the Death Eaters to be there, i.e. resistance in the castle.
