  1. interesting. It definitly lacked the great lyrics SOAD usually has, or at least had back in the Toxcitity era. Aeriels was particularly great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCMqtfeJS9k so what happened to it in this song? Is it just that the lyric-writing talent was with other members of SOAD, or did Serj just decide he will say whatever is popular? I would have been really impressed if he had released this back in like 02 or 03 when he would have been persecuted for saying everything on this vid. But now that its cool he comes off as a 'rebel' and he is cool. No one called me a rebel back in 03 when I was telling people to not support the imminent war in Iraq, I was called a piece of crap. I guess people just like to use stuff to make themselves look better, no one really cares about anything. anyway, I went off a tangent there. Back on track: The music was pretty good, but a bit repetitive. I really like his voice, expect the beginning it came on kinda fast and harsh, but by the middle of the vid it was sounding really good.
  2. There was an interview where she said that she wrote like 50+ pages long on the characters' afterlife but then she decided that it would not suit a novel like that, and decided to go with this "foggy" epilogue type. Not really a sign of laziness imo. :) That is really dumb. the big 50 page one would have been so much better. I hope one day they out with like a second edition with it included instead.
  3. Then why not find it and post it. Just posting that you have an opinion but aren't going to share it is useless spam. So you would be ok with killing infants since they are in the same boat? no, not at all. I would be ok with mercy killings but just killing random babies, hell no. But what if even one of those little babies grow up and kill a bunch of people, including him/herself in a pcp-fueled frenzy? The children that are raised by parent/s that never wanted them are more likely to do drugs, kill themselves, etc. I don't quite get your point... I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I'm understanding that it's okay to kill fetuses and/or unwanted babies because there's a chance that they'd grow up to kill or be druggies... Sure children that have gone through such things are more likely to be into drugs and the like, but after going through such troubles some can rise up and make a change for the better. I'm saying that if the mother thinks the baby should be aborted, chances are it will have a really crappy childhood and/or life in general, possibly leading to another accidental pregnancy or whatever, and the cycle starts all over again. Why not just end it before the problem starts...? and yes there may be that 1 in 1,000,000 chance that they end up growing up to be the next ghandi or something, but its far more likely they will end up a drug dealer or murderer. Why not try to do something to stop this problem???
  4. ya I really doubt it will matter in the future seeing as you're still in high school, not college. However I'd choose not plastic surgeon. The other three sound alright though. I'm gonna be a junior too by the way

    Fall Lineup

No LOST till February :wall: !
  7. abortion is a good thing, I'm all for it. I figure, as long as the mother is considering aborting the baby, it probably won't have a very good life and is likely to eventually accidentally get pregnant themselves and then want an abortion. So, spare the kids the trouble while you can. Besides its not like you're alive when you're a fetus so you're not gonna remember anything. Do you remember getting circumcised? It's the same kinda thing. And by the way, don't fall for the anti-abortionists 'pro-life' and 'pro-choice' crap, its just a way of making the anti-abortionists look better.
  8. Go for the simple solution. They can be tracked. LOL. Seriously, Rowling sucks at making good stories. I mean, if all "magical" ways of transportation can be tracked, couldn't he just have put on his cloak and walked away, far enough somewhere so that he could jump on his broom and fly away? er, he was on the run pretty much the whole book...
  9. ha, when I was like 15 or so my mom forced me to go to church. Finally like a year later I left and was much less of a believer than I was going in. Hated that place. Anyway, my mom is like a crazy germ-a-holic OCD person that complains all the time about nothing and yells at everyone, my brother is really crappy, I guess my dad's alright but he never stands up to my mom and tells her anything I tell him, so I prefer just not to tell anyone anything.
  10. That's not possible. The basic framework of American Democracy prevents that from ever happening. See, thats the thing. Democracy is totally different than capitalism. Just like a dictatorship is totally different than communism. what we need is democratic communism, so that the basic framework of democracy stops people from gaining power like what happened in Russia, but have an economic situation that doesn't encourage selfishness and corruption.
  11. That is no excuse. Every ideal is perfect until humans get involved in it. "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. " - Winston Churchill So, if in America, Bush takes over the government and turns us into a dictatorship empire state thing and begins secret police systems to eliminate opposition to his reign, capitalism is a failed system? :wall:
  12. So you're not gonna listen to anyone and keep wallowing in self-pity for the rest of your life? get it together and you'll find there are good people out there.
  13. First off, great post. anyway, I'd just like to say that there is a giant difference between communism and what happened in Russia. Communism didn't fail, the Russian leaders who got in power took control and distorted it to something it was not. Really, there is no 'lesson from the past', cause it has never really been truly tested. There is no reason to act selfish and individualistic. We should sacrifice our selves to help others to help the greater good. But you think its not worth it if no one else does it? so that way you individually gain nothing? how selfish you are! and what do you mean it will never happen? well, perhaps. But we must strive for as close to possible towards this kind of society, maybe even perpetually, but it is still worth it to know that we are improving as a race. I can't believe so many people are selfish enough to slam this post. It is really great, people need to see this.
  14. er, this is actual news seeing as she is working on a book, rather than just buying a cup of coffee. anyway, the book sounds awesome, but I doubt it will be able to surpass Potter.
  15. Homework: I mostly agree. I guess I'd say that homework is bad if it is busywork homework given just to make you have something to do. But if the teacher thinks you should practice math problems or read a book or something, or if theres work to be done, it is necessary. The Need for Separate Schools: eh, I think its better to keep smaller schools, I really don't see much a difference, but I think it'd be more pleasurable to go to a smaller school than a school-complex-giant-building-department store-thing. being forced into college: yeah, parents shouldn't force you, but they should encourage you as much as possible, but never make the decision for you. going to college to party: Totally Agree
  16. i love that game, but hate the hackers.
  17. ha, thats hilarious. the parents need to calm down though. the baby's not gonna know what its saying so whats the big deal?
  18. ha, I'll be a junior next year and let me tell you my freshman year was like 500 times better than last year.
  19. eh, don't worry about big parties so much, I think those kind of things just blind people from true subtleties of the world, where I think, true wisdom lies. I think one can find lots of peace and happiness without all these parties and materialism.
  20. Ah! I used to feel the same way, though not to that extreme, seeing as I'm 17 and still in high school, but I think I know what you mean. I've contemplated different jobs, and never really thought of anything I'd really like to do, cause it seems like all people care about is just making money, not helping the world and all that. I'd actually very much rather just stay in high school for the rest of my life. I read your other thread, and I can say that I havn't had nearly as bad of problems as you have. I'd first recommend kicking drugs/cigs. I mean I can understand occasional use of them could be alright, but from what I've read, it looks like you're using them to try and get rid you problems than for like relaxation... just a suggestion. Anyway, thats just the minor part of your problems it seems. It looks like the root of your problem is that you have no motivation to do anything because you feel that the world is a bad place that you think needs like radical changes and you want solutions of the problems rather than contributing to them. I often feel the same way and am nervous about what profession I am to go into. Here is what I plan to do: I'm going to first remember that money means absolutely nothing and is basically the single worst thing in the world. I'm going to pursue a profession that I like and I don't care how much money I make from it as long as I know I'm helping the world, not hurting it. One profession I'm seriously thinking of pursuing is a librarian. I know people will laugh at me cause they make next to no money, but I think it is a very honorable profession, as you are helping people who want to learn about the world but don't have access to materials. I'm also considering being a professor or teacher, or maybe a psychologist. Or, though highly unlikely, perhaps a career in music. I'm thinking of these professions because I believe these are professions I think would help the world most, not hurt the world, and I don't care how much money I make out of them. Also, after reading your older post it seems you've had some really crappy stuff happen to you in your life. I think you've lost faith in society and humanity. But what I think is this: Yes, I will agree with you that there is a ton of crap and greed and selfish people in the world, but there are also good people and good things in the world, it is just much harder to find them than the bad things. There can always be a good side to anything, and this is what you fail to see, I think. Once you have seen some of the good in life, you will start to realize you can live in a bad society, but still live your life trying to make it better! That is what life is all about, trying to make things better. If everything is already perfect, then theres no point in living. Also what you need is some inspiration. I came across this guy via youtube named 'Isto'. I think he is a really great songwriter and guitarist, though many people on these boards will probably disagree, seeing as he does mostly acoustic style music and everyone here seems to like death metal. But the best thing about this guy is that he does everything independently, and does not buy into record companies or let the world corrupt him, so his message stays pure. Here is one of his CDs, that he allows people to listen to for free in their entirety on his website. http://lumberjackisto.com/Music/Voyage% ... 7Isto.html I really enjoyed track 6: Trancendentalisto and that 12: The Sky is Not a Ceiling and that 18: I Always See Rainbows I think I've been in a similar problem as you, and these 3 songs have done a lot to inspire me that maybe there is a reason to live in this world.
  21. You remind me of Timothy Leary. Anyway, havn't multiple musicians died from drug ODs? Brad Nowell, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, etc.? How can you justify drugs when people die from them? and if all those are 'soft' drugs, what isn't a soft drug?
  22. wow that thing about arriving before you arrive is really bizarre... so if you wanted to travel to somewhere say right next to you that you could see, would you see yourself appear before you decide to leave? But then if that happened couldn't you choose not to go, but then you'd never have left in the first place and then wouldn't have seen yourself and then...arrrgh :wall: I guess its not really time travel, its just kinda something. Its like your going so fast you go backwards or something...
