  1. I had a similar problem. It just messed up the resolution, which can be changed based on monitor.
  2. Won't that be another $200 though. :?
  3. You do know Windows XP won't be supported by Microsoft in 2009, correct? It's just something to consider.
  4. It can, and should run fine. http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ You're running Windows 2000, the bare minimum.

Pretty much it. If people didn't really value it before, I doubt they will now.
  6. Never enjoyed Thanksgiving because I never liked the food. So...I guess nothing. :?
  7. Wisdom. but I don't think CEO's taking a few million out of their check would help that much at the moment to be honest. And you have t oreward scucessful people or else they will cease to be successful and just go to a different company. They could hire like 20 more people a year cutting just a million out of their budget. Some make hundreds of millions.
  8. I have Centrino Duo 1.6 Ghz, and it's still using less than 40%. Then I have two monitors with TIF and iTunes open, sometime even another game; I'm a major multitasker at times.
  9. Linksys? Sucks? :o You could always do a firmware update if you don't like it: http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato. Tomato is a free installation that allows you to track bandwidth and switch frequencies to avoid interference. Anyways, does the computer at least recognize the wireless? Or is it not there at all?
  10. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I think that saying fits in well with this. And I'm sure the criminals would think so to. If we don't hold it accountable, the murderers will continue to try until the victim is dead. At which point, the police could have done something to stop him, saving a mans life.
  11. Yeah, exactly. It's spam. Delete it and move on. :P
  12. I don't think they should be bailed out. Largely because if they do, then there becomes a mind-set that none of the car companies can go out of business. "Oh no, we can't go out of business, we have a million people working for us. You wouldn't want your statistics to go even higher would you?" would become the court case for every bailout, and the judge along with the American people will eat it up. Perhaps if they invented something that creates demand, something that will cost us less to own, but costs a larger startup money. Take for example the Aptera, a $30,000 dollar car that makes it possible to get 300mpg. Now, Aptera Motors came out of nowhere, literally from nowhere in 2005, and Ford, one of the most long lived car industries has had cars that have 17-20mpg for decades. Why? They've lived off short term affordability and looks. There's nothing efficient about an F150. It's square design cuts though the air at 80mph like a parachute, so why are we wasting most of our energy on the road just fighting over wind resistance? Because the car dealers have lived under there early 1900 models for to long. They have put little effort into creating fuel efficiency that world wants to see. Sure we're getting hybrids and such, and then there's the Prius, but how expensive are those? And how much do the electric engines do for the average person? It's a marketing gimmick, and that's really all. Put an engine under a fancy little box of metal, with another electric engine and stick a label that says "Hybrid" on it, and people will eat it up. What was the current review on hybrids? I believe they said it would take 8 years to start paying off? I don't know about you, but I'm surely not going to switch in for a hybrid now, only to see my expenses came back in eight years, or at least not during this economic time. What we, as people with money, want to see is results. We want to see efficiency over aesthetics, or a combination of the two. The car dealers never expected we'd want that, because the technology wasn't around at the time. But now that is it, they just want to further their already built line of trucks, SUVs, vans, etc. Hopefully, without the bailout they'll recognize this and cater to what their consumers have to say as well as build more efficient models. Lets hope that other newer brands, such as Aptera Motors, push the standards for these gas-guzzlers, since Ford, and the rest don't seem to be doing so. Yeah, and I'm wondering how the CEO is making millions while the company suffers. Who needs that much money to support themselves anyways?
  13. You disgust me. It's a sad event that he wanted a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And you want to see him dying?
  14. Crysis warhead is currently one of the most demanding games out there on the market, it brings most computers to their knees. (The PC's that laura posted wouldn't even be able to run it). As far as a hard drive goes man, Just spend $100 on a 1TB drive and put it in yourself. Is it largely because of the GPU? Just wondering. I knew knew it was intensive, but not to that magnitude. :o And yeah, those weren't geared towards gaming anyways.
  15. Doing so would only decrease the amount of trust between him and his parent. So it's not worth it, even if it wouldn't steal his password. If parents blocked it, I'm assuming it was because of grades, and in which case, negotiating would be easy, higher grades=less internet restrictions. Whether or not the parents are lenient is a different story.
  16. Is customer support a big thing for you (such as buying from Dell, HP, Gateway?) Are you looking for something that'll play 3D games? Budget PC? Already built or are you up to building it yourself? Does expansion and the ability to upgrade matter much? http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=desktops&a1=Category&v1=Versatile+performance&series_name=a6660z_series Vista Home Prem 64-bit AMD Phenom 8550 triple-core processor (2.2GHz) 4GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM (4x1024) from 2GB 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300, DVI-I, VGA/(+$20)256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300, DVI-I, VGA adapter,HDMI 320GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive LightScribe 16X max. 17. Sorry, I didn't find anything else. And Acer won't help you with a pirated anything. Push comes to shove: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16837116193 I think that could be an answer.
  18. That's completely normal depending on your memory. Mine usually ran at 36%. The higher end fps with little memory/graphics card eats up your system resources, especially on fullscreen. I don't know any lag fixes that don't involve prioritizing, which starves your system. Cut down on multitasking while playing, eg, iTunes.
  19. Your built wasn't built for games, but it's hard to say that is sucks. :| You could upgrade I suppose, as the memory isn't quite the up to par for Vista (and neither is your GPU, or lack of :? ), and your CPU will still drag you down a bit. Really, your only option is to upgrade, which you said you didn't want to do. You could also tweak Vista to neglect GUI to gain performance. It frees up a bit of the memory that Vista is using, though it's not a solution.
  20. ...what? It's the same speed... No, he's right, it's faster.
  21. It's not against the rules, and you can use them freely. On the other hand, they you have no evidence that you weren't macroing. And it appears that you are, if you sit there and alch with your point clicking the same pixels over and over.
  22. Acer is really bad about driver support in my opinion. My sister bought an Acer X1200, with no drivers for the video, sound, or wireless card (one she installed herself, which the system recognized as a 56k modem). I'll take a look and see if I find anything. Also, about Vista, it was bad when it was first released, because it didn't work on all computers, it wasn't compatible with certain hardware, and it was/is extremely sluggish without the correct hardware, which made the transition difficult. However, multiple updates to Vista has fixed this problem. I wouldn't put it on something with like a low end processor and less than 2GB of RAM though. EDIT: Yup, all the links on the Acer website for driver support me tell my that it's an invalid URL. :-# I went to the Pan America support though, and it gave me more options than the Europe option. But I had to tackle the glitchy flash box that constantly wanted to know what system I had.
  23. Is that bad though? I mean, it's not monopolizing the market. But you're right, Apple is switching to Intel and Nvidia chips, and even certain functions will only work on their Intel based computers. And when I look at Dell, their main choice is Intel by default, but you have the option for AMD. Then all the lower end graphics cards are ATI, while the higher ones are Nvidia. I guess I just kind of associate ATI/AMD with lower end products because their not on the spotlight/being advertised as much. If Intel is paying/lowering prices to business, doesn't that tell AMD that they're trying selling overpriced chips to companies?
