The mage knight robes are not worth it in any circumstances, because it doesnt increase your damage, as the max for mage depends on the spell. It merely increases accuracy by 10%, which is nothing compared to teh bonuses full Ahrims would give you. Never tried Ranger at Ape Atoll, sorry.

I'd say Flesh Crawlers are one of the best, they're max hit is one, and you can get decent xp there. You can fish salmon/trout in the river if you want; I can stay down there for hours on end with one load of fish with 70 def in f2p.

Requires Shades of Mor'ton quest;it temporarily cures the villagers and they reward you. You often get most if not all of your tarromins back.

Faster than Monks, but much less profit.

Spiders are by far the fastest I know of. Flesh Crawlers are also good, and have lots of gem and body rune drops, but have less hp. They have a max hit of one.
