It might not be illegal but it is certainly over the top. But, that aside, it's scary to think this sort of thing happens (and the statement about rights in movies) in the US, who prides itself on the Bill of Rights they have, and so on and so forth (admittedly, the most I hear in Aus is about the 2nd Ammendment right to bear arms), but still. I can see where you're coming from, albeit an abstract point of view. I think with the new changes (RWT clampdowns/trade limits/Grand Exchange), it will force most, if not all players to become self sufficient. To maximise profitability, one is going to need skills. Whether you make money through mining or fishing etc, it is the most effecient and assured way of making money. You can combat away for ages without any real benefit, and attempt to merchant with or without success. I'd be extremely bored without skilling to be honest...

Non-paying players can't be more loyal that paying members? Come on. I don't have the means to pay membership fees (a visa card for instance), but you know what? I pay JaGex buy playing with ads on my screen! I could put up an ad blocker, face bans and THEN I'd not be loyal! I just hope you stop being paranoid. Either play the game as it is, and learn to enjoy it, or quit. No one can make you enjoy a game, and they are doing what they see best not only for the bottom line of the company, but also for the players. In past years, JaGeX had multiplayer games on their main page (chess/checkers etc etc) which have been "in development" for quite some time now. They are throwing a lot of their cash and staff time (if not all) at Runescape.
