  1. The Death Of Neo-Liberalism Summarized and condensed from various newspapers, and media outlets. Mr. Rudds paper entitled Howards Brutopia is essentially an ideological spin on the current economic crises. He rambles on about previous world leaders, such as Margaret Thatcher, Reagan and previous Chairman of The Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan are to blame for the current economic crisis. He argues that their policies were instrumental in the formation of the western free-market. Some argue that, this paper is merely a political weapon against his right-wing opponents. Rudd outlines Howards legacy and previous American Presidents policies, and Washingtons fixation on the laissez-faire economic system. Kevin Rudd discusses using state powers to save capitalism from itself. His aim is to hold liberal ideologies and government policies responsible for todays economic catastrophe. Rudd declares the current crisis "is the culmination of a 30-year domination of economic policy by a free-market ideology that has been variously called neo-liberalism, economic liberalism, economic fundamentalism, Thatcherism or the Washington consensus". He says this philosophy was anti-tax, anti-regulation, anti-government. It believed in unregulated financial markets, self-correcting markets, complete labour market deregulation and opposed investment in public goods. In his view, social democrats must use essentially autonomous powers to regulate markets, centralize them and strike a better balance between public and private interests, embrace Keynesian economics, correct for market failure from the financial system to climate change and invest more in education, health, unemployment insurance and retirement incomes. In 25 words or less: Condemning previous liberal ideaologies, blaming open markets for current economic situation. Solution is to turn to Democrats and institutionalize a market regulation and governance through education, health and environment. Your views needed. Yes, I do realize this is Australian Politics, however this is a global ideaology.

  3. Each State a different ethnic minority ? About the "Isms" Why ?
  4. Essentially, 2008 could/can be labelled as the Superhero film year. Loathed Hellboy2. Liked Dark Knight Loved Iron Man
  5. Azvareth Adding you to my list of witty TIF'ers. Also because you have a Blackadder Avatar. (Thats from season 2 if I'm not mistaken)
  6. Hello Unoalexi, Not to be a pain in the nether reigons, but do you have an estimate to when "my" signature will be ready. I'm getting a little edgy, :ohnoes: A timeframe will stop me from developing paronychia.
  7. I thought animals weren't allowed inside Starbucks. Secondly, I wonder how paws would be able to hold a cup of coffee :-k [Ok, this must stop. The lion jokes must stop, it has gone far enough. Lent, are you sick of me yet ? If not, ill keep on going, Number of Lenticular related "jokes": 8. The ones that were actually funny: nil. I'm a terrible, terrible failure.]
  8. True, the "western" pre-classical era of though started with Greco-Roman schools of thought, the four pillars being Ethos, Logos, Pathos and Kudos. However many Greek philosophers had deep rooted principals that stemmed from the east.
  9. Well, at least he's happier than Prometheus
  10. Thanks Warrior. Made up that line for my essay, got me that extra half mark towards perfection. Chika-Chika ! (boosh reference) EDIT: After reading 6 pages of responses, I realised most TIF'ers are quasi-nihilists.
  11. An alient ant farm, so to speak. I had/have the exact same ideaology. Currently taking classes in Nihilism from my spiritied English teacher. (yes, oxymoron) Reading the Myth of Sisyphus by Camus. Very interesting on this topic. The book essentially concludes that: The joy of living is in living itself. By the way its a analytical non-fiction. On a side note: Camus is the most hilarious nihilist you've probably ever heard of. He quoted Kafka's works as being insufficent to explore nihilism, as they "Always contained a glimmer of hope"
  12. This thread has gone far enough. Bordering on the realms of stupidity and pure absurdism. Please people for the love of Jesus/Allah/Buddha/ stop this madness.
  13. Stop debating/arguing/preaching/ranting, about Christian (or any other religion) views of the world. We all know that the sun doesn't rise because Instead of taking these (B/b)ooks literally, look for the real meaning of religion. (By reading the posters above you)
  14. As a whole, yes. But people must really stop looking at religion in the "set in stone", Christian Republican way. (Wow, lethal combination) That is the "dictionary" defintion of "religion". Look at (3), and (4). Three, why does it have to be a religious "leader", Sure, for Christian's there is Christ and for Buddhists there is Buddha. But why can't we define religion as simply (4) Religion in my view is best described as a execution of your duty, through reason and logic. However this can be changed and influence by "Society", as the moral and ethical norms are just what "society" deems acceptable. No. Moral and Ethics do not just stem from a select few individuals. Everyone, has the concept of justice and injustice, right and wrong. Distinguishing between them, and following the correct course of action is religion.
  15. Here is my take on things: Penny Arcade: If you enjoy reading mediocre, slow-witted humor, and obscure references to Atari, Sega and old 4chan memes. CAD: Used to be somewhat entertaining, but has descended into a spiral of bad jokes, bad timing, and whole strips of the Chef-like "wit" SMBC is good. Dr. McNinja is good. Nadril, can you link me to whatever you were saying about Buckley ? The speech or whatnot. Will try to find Yahtzee's comparison of Penny Arcade and CAD.
  16. Highly summarised, but yes. You're correct
  17. Anyone know of the Paradox of Thrift ? It says that the more you save your money, the less you will get. Kudos to anyone that tells why. No cheating.
  18. Dinosaur Comics, XKCD and Least I Could Do are all awesome. No Need For Bushido is also good. I hate those damn sprite comics.
  19. The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. Simplified, it can be. This statement is false. We are just chasing our vestigial tails talking about this. Lent, you already have a tail. A real tail.
  20. Billiard Ball.
  21. Not me specifically but, others. Saying the word "random", "lol", "leet" "for the win". Everyone says these things in their first year. Hmmm, with fads I'd go with trading cards such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic:The Gathering (that isn't half bad) Also got into performing card tricks.
  22. Any of you TIF'ers read any Lovecraft ? Or Poe. Or any general weird fiction. ?
  23. Yes. Wouldn't like to go alone but, with a good friend.
  24. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you there. Hardly. Maybe the earliest writings ( Genesis, Exodus, etc.) But after reading the Bible and comparing it with holy books from other faiths, it seems as if it was written by a 5 year old...in ESL. It is morose prose. hey, I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. \ No meter, no rhyme, no rhythm, no colourful description. it is in fact very simple story explained in laymans terms, literature-wise unadulterated.
  25. Zombies ! See Me. Hear Me. FEEEEEARRR Me ! Roar. Against my super Jedi-Ninja golf club swinging skills, you stand no match. MUHAHAHAHAH.
