  1. You are from a village in india ? Where exactly ?
  2. Currently reading The Life of Pi Great book. [hide=Excerpt]There are two-toed sloths and there are three-toed sloths, the case being determined by the forepaws of the animals, since all sloths have three claws on their hind paws. I had the great luck one summer of studying the three-toed sloth in situ in the equatorial jungles of Brazil. It is a highly intriguing creature. Its only real habit is indolence. It sleeps or rests on average twenty hours a day. Our team tested the sleep habits of five wild three-toed sloths by placing on their heads, in the early evening after they had fallen asleep, bright red plastic dishes filled with water. We found them still in place late the next morning, the water of the dishes swarming with insects. The sloth is at its busiest at sunset, using the word busy here in the most relaxed sense. It moves along the bough of a tree in its characteristic upside-down position at the speed of roughly 400 metres an hour. On the ground, it crawls to its next tree at the rate of 250 metres an hour, when motivated, which is 440 times slower than a motivated cheetah. Unmotivated, it covers four to five metres in an hour. The three-toed sloth is not well informed about the outside world. On a scale of 2 to 10, where 2 represents unusual dullness and 10 extreme acuity, Beebe (1926) gave the sloths senses of taste, touch, sight and hearing a rating of 2, and its sense of smell a rating of 3. If you come upon a sleeping three-toed sloth in the wild, two or three nudges should suffice to awaken it; it will then look sleepily in every direction but yours. Why it should look about is uncertain since, the sloth sees everything in a Magoo-like blur. As for hearing, the sloth is not so much deaf as uninterested in sound. Beebe reported that firing guns next to sleeping or feeding sloths elicited little reaction. And the sloths slightly better sense of smell should not be overestimated. They are said to be able to sniff and avoid decayed branches, but Bullock (1968) reported that sloths fall to the ground clinging to decayed branches often. How does it survive, you might ask.Precisely by being so slow. Sleepiness and sloth-fulness keep it out of harms way, away from the notice of jaguars, ocelots, harpy eagles and anacondas. A sloths hairs shelter an algae that is brown during the dry season and green during the wet season, so the animal blends in with the surrounding moss and foliage and looks like a nest of white ants or of squirrels, or like nothing at all but part of a tree. The three-toed sloth lives a peaceful, vegetarian life in perfect harmony with its environment. A good-natured smile is forever on its lips, reported Tirler (1966). I have seen that smile with my own eyes. I am not one given to projecting human traits and emotions onto animals, but many a time during that month in Brazil, looking up at sloths in repose, I felt I was in the presence of upside-down yogis deep in meditation or hermits deep in prayer, wise beings whose intense imaginative lives were beyond the reach of my scientific probing.Sometimes I got my majors mixed up. A number of my fellow religious-studies studentsmuddled agnostics who didnt know which way was up, who were in the thrall of reason, that fools gold for the brightreminded me of the three-toed sloth; and the three-toed sloth, such a beautiful example of the miracle of life, reminded me of God.[/hide] Its a fiction book.
  3. No, I dont live near anyone famous.

  5. Will post mildly funny motifake, which sums up my thoughts about Seinfeld. Coming soon.
  6. 150. Killed. 750 homes raised. Latest update. 10 million dollars of charity has come from the public. Still. The arsonists, if apprehended will be tried for mass murder.
  7. I'd eat brains. [hide=Troll]:boohoo: Truly. The. Death. Of. Off. Topic. What would you do if you were a zombie ? Must questions like this really be asked ? At most, people would give 4 word responses. Not contributing to open discussion, or provoking thought. New low since, self-gratuitous sexually implicit description of what you would do if you were the opposite sex.[/hide]
  8. 106 people confirmed dead, at time of writing. Just horrible. No emoticon to describe this. (School is) Throwing a fundraiser on Friday to support the relief effort. Aiming for over $5000. Hope everyone is ok.
  9. Tryto made my post fail. :-# Still formulating a counter-attack. -.-
  10. [hide=Trolling.]*Cracks Knucles* OK Trolling Time. I don't understand why people would pay good money, and large multi-nationals, shell out millions of dollars just to watch some fast cars go around and around and around... ad infinitum. Frankly it's not a sport, its a occasion for Motorheads to get together and hoon around. Why not spend those tens of millions of dollars on charity instead. (And pollute less) I understand, why company's must do it as, they must get a large sum of money from endorsments and advertising. But to me its pointless. Completely and utterly non-sensical.[/hide]
  11. Please don't leave this/these forum(s). You're hilarious. I reccomend reading that first, although I didn't understand much of it, it made much more sense when I read it again. But I guess one could argue A Briefer Histroy of Time is much more accessible as it has any more detailed pictures. But then again, in school you get a much better understanding and appreciation of the book. But if your school is as how you describe it, it must suck. We just read the book within a week, and spend the rest of the term analysing it.
  12. Kaushik, stop being so damn funny ! It's like a "FOB English generator" is speaking in lieu of you. No, but really. Don't stop. [hide=Hindi]Chaalte Raho, bhai, mut rooko.[/hide]

Not much today. Did geometric sequences, and went on TIF.
  14. Judging by the picture (of himself?) in his avatar, methinks not.
  15. [hide=Drake Equation][/hide] If you even take this with a pinch of salt it affirms the theory that there are millions of life forms "out there". I think we should be arguing over, why "they" haven't contacted us.
  16. Yeah, and I love canned laughter, bad jokes and meditated pre-processed humor. I think I'll keep my sanity, thanks.
  17. Howlin, where did you get that quote on top of your signature from. ? Sounds better if its, who watches the watchmen. But thats just me.
  18. Senajitkaushik, is going to be welcome around here. I just know it. He like a cross between the utter non-chalant funny, and the culture crisis language. Keep up the good work. The guy is hilarious. Oh and kaushik, I know in India, you refer to everyone (male) you meet on the street (generally a stranger) as bhai, ( translated directly into brother) But it looks really awkward. Especially here. Make you look like a 12 year old "african american" imitator.
  19. One mind-boggling paradox is the Banach/Tarski paradox. It states that a solid sphere in 3D space can be split into many pieces, which can be put back together in a alternate way to give two identical copies of the original sphere. I remember Richard Feynman's book, in which he he provides an alternate set of possiblities. Ill try to find it. Ok, heres one for you to figure out. Fermi paradox: If there are, as probability would suggest, many other sentient species in the Universe, then where are they? Shouldn't their presence be obvious? But then again most "real scientists" state that the Drake equation is iffy as everything is assumed and based on conjecture. This is like spitting on the face of the scientific method of inquiry. No wonder scientists dont like it.

I've known about Blackle for a long time. I use it when I search, but since it doesn't have a IGoogle feature, its not my homepage. Useless Statistics Made by me. Apparantly 1,072,496.190 Watt hours have been saved Thats 3,860,986,284 Joules by my calculations. Nearly four billion joules Which according to me, is a human moving about 350,000 Kilometers. On foot. About 9 times around the Earth.
  21. Where did you get this from ? I know Maddox's site, but I've never seen or heard of this article. Can someone link me step by step ?
  22. Iam presuming he is Indian. C'mon leave him alone. He's new here. But quite hilarious.
  23. Off Topic: Kaushik. Please stop saying that. Kind of weirds me out. You can keep on doing it if you want to, but meh. On Topic: I just don't understand why people would want to get tattoos just for the sake for getting some artwork permanently ingrained a few millimeters under their skin. I mean if it was a personal motto, or a club/gang/organisation affiliation I would understand, but in my opinion getting a tattoo just for the hell of it, isn't too appealing. Unless it looks "flamingly awesome". Oh and EMR, I just noticed you look like Trotsky. Except more evil, and knife-wieldly.

Well, no wonder. I hear you can get contacts you wear while you sleep, so your cornea automatically reshapes itself. Apparantly much cheaper than day time lenses. Don't know about their effectiveness though :-k
  25. Nineteen Eighty - Four. Good book, I dont have that much love for it. But here its part of the course. :| So you either love it, or you fail (metaphorically) Hopefully the faculty will allow us to disagree with the exam question :-k
