Yes, in the same way that not getting a tax break because I am not, and possibly never will be aboriginal, is oppression. I agree, it isn't google's job to fix all that's wrong in the world. Thus, why they should not be paying homosexual employees more than straight ones. Large sponsors say otherwise. Indy, for example....doesn't sound right without the "Molson" in front of it. Outcry by discrimination is never valid, regardless of the the reason. The only equality I don't support for homosexuals is marriage - simply because I believe it's between a man and a woman for purposes of childbearing. I have always supported all other rights for homosexuals and homosexual couples.

If not getting a tax break is oppression, which is what you appear to think based on your support for Google's policy, then I am oppressed. A certain demographic gets a tax break that I don't - why isn't Google supplementing my income to offset that? I maintain this was a PR move by Google - a much better one would have been to sponsor pride parades, make donations to LGTB support groups - all things that don't discriminate against non-homosexuals. Yes, they are "cancelling discrimination" by discriminating. That can never, ever, be effective. As I've said before, the road to equality is equality, not preferential treatment.
-
You're not oppressed for being aboriginal? Do you know an iota of north american history at all? Have you looked up the definition of discrimination? I somehow doubt it, so I'll list it for you. dis·crim·i·na·tion [dih-skrim-uh-ney-shuhn] Show IPA –noun treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination. "Making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing, based on a group to which that person belongs rather than individual merit" Paying homosexuals more because they are homosexual is the very essence of discrimination.

And I can never get aboriginal tax reduction benefits. It's exactly the same. This is a PR move by google to cater to the growing crowd of pro-gay rights activists (not a bad thing) but they are using illegitimate means, which only end up being discriminatory.

Yeah the last time I died with any frequency while leveling my pally was low 40's. Most of the time I could even solo the group quests for my level, and those were the only challenge.

This. Inequal treatment can never lead to equality - and that's exactly what this is. The governments shortcomings are not the business of private industry. Sometimes the government cannot supply what it's supposed to. That's when citizens (or in this case, Google) should take things to their own hands. People of middle eastern descent are often discriminated against at airports, and by police officers. Would you be supportive of a security company discriminating against Caucasians to restore the balance? I doubt it - but like many pro-homosexual activists, you'd see homosexuals put on a pedestal, while claiming equality is your goal. No, I wouldn't support it. But if any group's individuals (say a very religous group) received any taxing penallties simply for belonging to that group, and a company like Google helped them out, I'd support it. There's a definitive difference between taxing penalties and lack of tax benefits. Homosexuals do not pay more taxes, there is simply a tax benefit they are ineligible for. There are certain tax benefits that everyone is ineligible for, yet I don't see google offering to pay me more because I'm not eligible for the aboriginal tax reduction.

Fair enough, I missed that. -
I'll skip a day very rarely. I prefer to shower every day though, I look better and feel better.

Just another example of the blantant attacks on organized religion permeating the minds of those pro-gay rights. Just because you don't agree with someone's views doesn't mean you should call them a "nut". Have I ever called a gay person a "nut"? Despite me being a pretty vocal anti-gay marriage poster I've never stooped that low. -

No, it's about the money. It's always about the money. We're not going to get solar panels because the money it saves us will be less than the cost of the solar panels themselves. Where in the article does it say that? As far as I know it doesn't. What it seemed to me was that they're trying to cut energy usage. If they're willing to renovate buildings that would cost a lot to do so in the name of energy effeciency, wouldn't that imply that they're interested in energy-saving rather than money saving? Not the companies, the consumers. I said in my comment how we aren't going to go with it, not the companies won't give it to us to save them money. Have to agree with this. These changes will never be supported by the masses if it's going to cost them a lot. Personally, I'm willing to make financial sacrifices where possible to save energy and help treat the planet better, but a lot of people would rather not miss their Caribbean vacation.

UK Moving In The Right Direction - Religious 'Marriages' For Gay Couples

Why is that? Because RS is nerdy as freaking hell. Dragons? Swords? MAgics? Potions? Wizards? Monsters with nerdy names like "Bork" (dork) "Mahjarrat" (or w/e). Also, EXPERIENCE. (The word itself) Herblore? Runecrafting? Nerd territory. So nerds can't be gay? I know some pretty cool people who played rs, I think it's a little unfair to generalize. EDIT: Although if you're referring to stereotypes, I suppose you don't exactly picture the "queen" types hunched over the computer all day long. -
Well at the moment I just can't afford it, period. I'll suck it up and buy one eventually though :P

Why is that? -
I think the main benefit to having a car is time and flexibility. For example, I considered buying a car to travel to my last internship, but opted for the bus instead. Where I spent 3 hours a day on the bus, I would have barely spent an hour in the car. Furthermore, the bus fare of $6 a day is more than the (anticipated) $4 I would have spent on gas. Really, it's maintenance and insurance that end up making car ownership such a pain in the ass. In my bracket (and I'm sure many here can sympathize) insurance costs are through the roof.

Meh - as long as they don't try to force the Church of England to perform/allow their buildings to be used I'm apathetic. -

Good job PKM, good luck in round 2! -
If you're comfortable with soldering then you could try to solder them back on, otherwise send it to a shop - it should be a relatively easy fix for them.

Nice to see some new things happening, keep up the good work :)

Basically the same as Racheya, while I'm definitely proud to be Canadian, it doesn't make me better than anyone else, and Canada is certainly far from perfect.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
obfuscator replied to Da_Latios's topic in Off-Topic
Something to think about: Helping her is great, but a relationship should be a two way street. A relationship could never function with you only helping her. And if you were to eventually get tired and break up with her.....well that would make her even worse. I know you're not thinking of pursuing a relationship, but just some things to think about if you find yourself changing your mind. -
Let's see, the parliament has a majority of women, and our president and prime minister are women. I still agree that it's not equal though, women still earn less. Well that's great. But looking at the American and UK Governments... supposedly 'progressive' and 'fair' countries... You do wonder why that is though, it's not like women are being purposely excluded. It just seems like most women don't want to run. The city I live in has a female mayor, and she's [bleep]ing awesome :D

RPG, call me a selfish [wagon] but I'd avoid a relationship with someone like that. The undoubtedly low self esteem brings a host of other problems down the road, and while it may be possible for her to eventually get over that, it's likely to be a big mess. -
This. Besides, you should live every day like it's your last :P
