  1. The last killing that a Klansman was implicated in was in 1981. There have been numerous murders of gays by morally righteous homophobes, not to mention dozens of reported beatings and a national system of discrimination since. Currently, the Klan is busy creating stupid secret codes and discriminating against other races since they're afraid of them. The Christian right is busy creating stupid laws and discriminating against homosexuals because the bible tells them to. I really don't see why the comparison is incorrect. If I was to compare the Christian right to the Nazis, that would be incorrect, since death camps seem still unlikely.
  2. I haven't watched a ton of movies, but I have to say that The Matrix, and Thank you for Smoking rank up there.

Sounds pretty rough. My parents have been threatening to send me to a psychologist for quite a while, although they've never actually tried it. PO?
  4. Nah it's just that most of their albums are terrible in my opinion, thrash isn't my genre at all though so that might influence it a bit. That last question forced me to watch the whole vid and I must say I'm kinda disgusted by the whole pseudo-political attitude they display. I really haven't got the slightest clue about why bands are considered metal or not, but trying to be really loud and angry isn't one of the requirements. Actually, I would say that is one of the defining principles of metal.
  5. I'm saying that when there is a massive number of exception to a "rule of thumb" it's not a very useful rule. Being a metalhead and saying that Slayer isn't real metal is like being a communist because you hate the proletariat. I'm not saying that my opinion of what genre a band is in is necessarily correct, but please provide evidence for where the conclusion is incorrect, instead of stating that a website does not include a band.
  6. I didn't say that no transportation was possible: just that it must be over short distances. The majority of people in North America live in cities: agriculture within the city limits is possible, on rooftops and such, and new technology for building massive vertical farms could be a step forward, although the jury is still out on that. Outside of that, we can conduct our agriculture without intensive farming: a system of rails lines being employed to transport food comes to mind, the end of excessive pesticide, fertilizer, anti-biotic and hormone use, and employment of more efficient methods of production (cold-blooded fish such as tilapia, crop rotation, use of closed-loop farm systems) can all contribute to sustainability. It will cost more in the short term, but that's nothing compared to the destruction that intensive agriculture is doing to the environment.
  7. Thank you. I have no idea how any real headbanger/metalhead could doubt that.
  8. Which is exactly why agriculture must be decentralized. And they do ship; but not far, since Joel says (correctly) that it would defeat the purpose. This was discussed in Dilemma, and I think briefly in Food Inc., right before their huge plug for Wal-Mart.
  9. You rely on a website to tell you what genre bands are in?! And when the number of exceptions to a rule of thumb outnumber the occurrences of the rule being correct, it should be abolished.
  10. Have you ever heard of Polyface farms? It was featured prominently in The Omnivore's Dilemna by Michael Pollan, and Food Inc. There are alternatives, we just don't care to pursue them.
  11. That was a response to Mask, sorry I should have quoted him. I am not a communist, by the way. I'm a socialist, with Marxist leanings.
  12. -Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives” How's that for tolerance? I show quite a bit of tolerance, but I will not stand by while discrimination, warmongering and environmental exploitation occur. If you do it with another consenting adult, and it does not hurt anyone else, your business. Sauron + Bill Gates.
  13. "They kind of invented thrash". They were half of the reason metal got good. Bloodline may not be their best song ever, but they didn't start sucking post-Raining Blood, like some people pretend: they just were less popular. EDIT: And LOG, Ektomorpf, Kataklysm, Throwdown, and Napalm Death all have music videos. And that's just right off the top of my head.
  14. :wall: Yup, Slayer isn't metal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SdmsWBO7O4&feature=youtube_gdata I understand that you said "rule of thumb" but that also doesn't hold for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIRUzqHTNh8&feature=youtube_gdata http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOWB6rmSd4I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fninRnmVRHw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fts8AifyfNw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gawms8BM3o&feature=youtube_gdata
  15. for Mann. Very apt quote though.

Really, the choice seems pretty obvious to me... weed < military service? I don't think that I could ever serve, since I could never just pull the trigger on someone simply because someone said to.
  17. Then you support the Klu Klux Klan then, right? Why shouldn't blacks be discriminated against if that's their belief system?
  18. A lot greener, until the rioting and assaults on Washington started. At which point they will realize we could just have adopted a different strategy concerning how animals are raised. People's problem should not be with consumption of meat, but the industrial murder machine. (This is OT, I'm pretty sure).
  19. The music video? Yes, they all are. If your statement was concerning the song, then is it safe to assume you sit in the BFMV/Rise Against/Dragonforce camp?
  20. Fear. People believe that they are unsafe, and the like to fantasize about the end, believing that it might be something as glorious and heroic as a zombie apocalypse... instead of a nuclear war. Edit: Damn, I took the bait.
  21. There's no "moral and intellectual sense" when discussing homosexuality. Is homosexuality the evolutionary ideal? No, but then neither is someone with a peanut allergy. Either way, it shouldn't matter to anyone.
  22. When people start touching my things. If they handle my comic books, and I freak out, other people will be frightened/angry for the most part, but if I just sit and watch them thumbing through, I die a little inside.
  23. Animals display homosexuality. Why are humans possibly any different?
  24. Then why are you a Republican? A partial objection to abortion, a reluctance to spend on social programs, and a distaste for California are the only conservative traits that really seem to stand out. And you do know that the liberal pundits on the news are just as bad as the Conservative ones, so please don't make a decision concerning the left from what those centrists say.
  25. **laughs** What you were expecting was: "Yes! You admit my argument is correct." At which point you reply: "No, I think you're just too ignorant to acknowledge any evidence." My mistake: I interpreted your "don't care" as "don't care, will not read". Extrapolation is a dangerous habit. OT: can anyone actually provide any evidence that homosexuality is unnatural?
