Limewire shut down
Do you think they're really going to be able to wring any money out of them? If it was me, everything and everyone would just "be lost".

Limewire shut down
Horrible, since it sets a precedent. Limewire, as was said above, is just a very fast way of delivering viruses to your hardrive.

Eye for an eye
So why aren't the cops in prison? They must be in prison since they jailed so many people. What the "eye for an eye people" want is the same concept as now, just harsher punishments. Disregard it, it's just a silly quote. I know what the "eye for an eye people" want, I just don't see how it will help. Capital punishment could be considered the harshest punishment available, yet serious violent crime in areas where capital punishment is available is typically higher or even per capita. I read a story once, I think someone posted it here, about a guy who gets sent to jail for drug possesion. The gist of the story is is that he has a bad habit he's trying break. He fails, and then goes to jail. What happens in jail don't help him break it, they make it worse. He's far more of a violent, dangerous criminal when he gets out then he was going in. That's how "whole world blind" works. When you punish based on revenge, you don't help the problem...you make it worse. Not all criminals can be rehabilitated. For some, there's no way they can ever contribute to society, and for those, life in prison is what we need to give. But the ones who can be rehabilitated(and there are many)....it seems very foolish not to try, at least. Very well put.

Eye for an eye
Or, seek to understand why it is that this person is so twisted as to wish to commit evil, and then take the appropriated course of action to reduce the risk of it being committed again as much as possible. Although we can all just throw everyone in jail:

Longboarding
That's a pretty cool effect.

Abortion
Well put, although I doubt reasoning will work with those people: if it did, it's unlikely that they would be there in the first place.

I had no idea that TIF has such a sense of style.

Eye for an eye
Because stable, well adjusted people do not generally rape, pillage, and murder: those despicable acts tend to be committed by those who are mentally unstable and were abused themselves. When you say "make an example" I agree, there should be some form of punishment... not the death penalty, and not necessarily a prison sentence, though.

http://craphound.com/?p=3071 Watch at least one, and then consider what it is that he does: in a post scarcity world, he gives away his work. And yet, he is an artist, and he makes a living. I bought his last book, For The Win: highly recommended to any RS player, or anyone under the age of 30. (Although my father, who is considerably older than that, enjoyed it as well).

Vegetarianism
There will almost certainly be some meat in it, as well as an unholy quantity of salt and trans-fats.

Eye for an eye
Does a strategy of an eye for an eye create a happier, more stable world? Is it working towards the shared goals of humanity? Neither, and even punishment we now know is less essential than prevention and debilitation.

The other extreme? Thanks for the TT, by the way: I had missed that one, somehow.

Literature
Funny, because The Horse and his Boy, along with Voyage of the Dawn Treader are the only two in the series that I found quite memorable.

What book are you currently reading?
This book contains graphic language by Rocco Versaci, and The Moral Landscape by Sam Harris The Literature thread has essentially just descended into a discussion of which fantasy books are best. There's a place for that, but let's not just call it literature, then.

There are much easier ways of obtaining pictures or videos of muscled men; head to any body-building forum or YouTube. I've never actually watched more than 30 second of the show though, so perhaps I shouldn't be so critical.

That's fairly centrist.

The categories are very general. Some can suit a person in multiple ways: not particularly precise process, but not one to be dismissed out of hand, either.

Homosexuality: Right or Wrong?
I am reading The Moral Landscape, and it is an impressive book. First of all, there are absolute truths concerning morality. Yes, counter-intuitive, but allow me to attempt to explain. Now, imagine the worst life possible: it will involve, murder, rape, loneliness, disease, short-lifespan, pain, death and assorted unpleasantness. Now, imagine the best: it will involve a long, healthy life, financial and social success, etc. Those are absolutes. There is not a single, mentally stable person on the planet that would choose the former over the latter. Ring familiar to some of the posters in the thread? And, from Donald Symons:

Vegetarianism
I'm not quite sure what it is you're asking. Formation of a corporation would mean that he loses control over the farm, since he now has a legal obligation to the shareholders over the environment, his workers, and animals. He's not worried about externalizing costs, because he doesn't have anything to externalize: no one needs to pay for his profit, since enough can be enough.

The Jersey Shore is the worst show on TV, period.
